Also I have to say that it is not for us to justify the reason that the charges were made (ie. bad money management or personal cicumstances) that is not the debate. The Point is that these charges are unlawful and should not be charged. Whatever situation led to the charges being added the charges should not be as high as they are.
excellent point sickofhavingnomoney :T - said much more coherently than my babbling post just now

Hi lynzpower, I did register then but because I never got the email back, and because I had a load of client work come in, I never got around to chasing it up.

Well I work fulltime as i'm sure many do, I doubt that many people have loads of time to devote to this, so whatever time we do have is very precious.0 -
Amount of fees due back/your hourly rate = amount of time it's worth spending on it???
Just a thought for those with time pressures.Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0 -

As a professional web designer I know that user's patience is very short and peope won't hang around.
It just seems a shame that all the positive talk on the TV last night could be undone by a poor technical backup.
Then I would seriously suggest not registering at all. I have been on their forum for a few months (and a great place it is) but have only just issued a summons because of waiting and waiting for my bank to provide information............you need to be patient and if having to wait for about an hour (like I did last night) makes you lose your patience then I'd give up now!!!

Thanks to the ignorance and selfishness of the few, the banking industry has been allowed to get away with acting unlawfully and fleecing the most vulnerable part of the population for years.
This is one of the things that really irritates me about this whole reclaim bank charges thing. The whole "I'm all right Jack" attitude of people who are so short-sighted that they can't ever see themselves be in a situation like this and think that it's only poor money management that gets "the others" into trouble. The self-righteousness of the lucky ones. The sweeping assumptions that if everybody was as careful as they are, nothing could go wrong.
Rubbish yourself. You have NO idea what you're talking about. You see fit to insult people you don't know anything about, and sneer at them because you are, not better, no smarter, but LUCKIER.
My only wish for you is that you're never in a position to find out how blisteringly wrong you are.
Wrong on every count !!
You are effectively using a legal loophole to reclaim your charges - that doesn't mean it's right, just that you are getting away with it. Hundreds if not thousands of criminals get away with things every year on technicalities just like you.
I have been in a situation where I incurred bank charges - it was 20 years ago and I learnt from my experience and haven't incurred any since, despite being in serious financial difficulty, it's not luck but being careful.
I also went to work for a bank in 1988 and remained in the banking world until 2000 so have seen thousands and thousands of people who have incurred charges so am actually considerably more experienced in this matter than you.
So well done - the mindless ignorance of the few has once again ruined it for the majority.0 -

Sure, I'll admit that some people are here as a result of "reckless overspending" (for want of a better phrase) but for many of us, unhappy circumstances and nasty twists in life have got us here.

This is one of the things that really irritates me about this whole reclaim bank charges thing. So people get into problems from time to time, yes happens to all of us but the ONE thing that we should be able to sort out is our bank account - it really doesn't take a genius to do it and stop any potential charges being added in the first place. People use change in circumstances as a excuse for going overdrawn - rubbish; it's laziness or ignorance.
So as the program pointed out last night we have one of the best banking systems in the world which is also free for the majority of us, this will quite possibly end thanks to the laziness or ignorance of the few - thanks a bunch.
I thought the program was the usual media spin and loaded questions - 'You don't like bank charges do you ?' - errrr no !!!
What a bl**dy cheek? What about all those poor souls who lose their jobs, have bereavments, are sick, having a hard time. Well providing you are okay that makes it fine. Well tough it ain't fine. It is wrong morally and unlawful. Just one day you may hit on hard times - and the sad thing is you would probably be made so welcome on their forum and all these lazy and ignorant people would be so happy to help you.

slightly harsh tootsie roll? Don't think comparing people who want to get ILLEGAL charges back with law-breaking criminals is entirely fair?!
I don't think it's a "legal loophole" is it? It's actually stated in legislation that banks cannot charge more than it actually costs to deal with bounced cheques/going over limit/bounced d/ds so that's not a "loophole", just the law. :money: 2007 is the year to clear :money:

What are you talking about? Try reading the other posts before you make a statement like that. I never said that I waited an hour, I said that I registered but have waiting for the email activation to arrive so I could get started and it hadn't arrived over 12 hours later.
I work as a web designer so I know that if an activation email hasn't been sent out then there is a problem, I also never said that I didn't have the patience to wait, I was saying that the average joe public will not have the patience to wait. I actually doubt that many people will think they will get their money back, so if they can't get into the site, their interest will stop their.0 -
This seems to be turning into a bit of a petty fight here. The forum is called debt free wannbe and is a place of support.
A lot of the people posting on this thread are being very negative and downright insulting.... surely this is not the place for it.0
