How do I get Postman to stop delivering junk mail? (merged)

A postman relative tells me that the addresses not wanting junk meal are FLAGGED in the sorting office.
But, it pisses off the postman as being extra work, and OK if just one address per street, but where you get several then it would be extra work. I now let them deliver the rubbish and use it as notepaper and as someone said, send it back at their expense.0 -
Can't you just put a polite 'NO JUNK MAIL' notice on your front door? I am about to do this. The only junk mail I get now seems to come direct from the Postman.0

Would Scottish Friendly take me and Mrs GG off their list? I don't want anymore tax friendly savings!

Agree 100%.
Anything I can do to stop the Royal Mail being put out of business I will. I really don't want a variety of other companies taking over - they will probably have their sorting office outsourced to India!!!0 -

My postie told me that if you are a person who enters competitions a lot or who sends off for freebies, then you are making any registrations with the MPS null and void.

I used to get tons of junk mail, because I must have ended up in one of those mailing lists that get bought by every company under the sun. When I got really fed up with it - and I'm talking about an average of FOUR items a day - I started doing the following:
I would shove in their return evelope as much as their stuff as possible, especially the item with my name and address on it with a clear note telling them to take me off their mailing list, and then send everything back. Let their rubbish bin be filled, not mine. let them do the recycling and let their staff waste time opening evelopes with no orders or enquiries.
It took about 6 months, but I now receive 3 or 4 per month, which I can tolerate.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
ensure you always click NOT to receive marketing stuff from a company because if you don't they can legitmetly send it to you. My spelling ability has left for the day!!!
