Exactly gromituk!
They just don't want people opting out because then they can't claim to deliver junk to 100% of the UK population.
I put my first junk back in the box the other day addressed to this department!
Love it!!

are you for real ?
Hi Tom Saunders,
Sorry for taking so long to get back to you, just came back to the thread.
Yes I am for real.just by you opting out of door to doors will NOT save a tree. The sheet will still be printed off yet yours will just be returned and put back into recycling.
I realise that if I am the only person in the world that does it then it will acheive nothing.
But if lots of people do it then there will be a whole load to put in the recycling so it will cost them money and time to get a van or a skip or similar.
Hopefully at this point they won't print so many and then it WILL possibly save a tree.
I cannot do it on my own single handedly, but I want to act in line with my conscience and I know many people don't like junk mail so I don't think I am the only person in the world trying to stop it.what a load of old moaners. Without Door to Door mail ( junk mail to you lot) the RM would go bust.
Personally I would rather pay a higher price for stamps etc. and not receive the junk mail. The next dog that chases me will get it, but I'm not sure who winds me up more, Rover or moaning lissyloo ?
Could you just clarify for me what it is that winds you up?
Is it the fact that your employer gives me a choice? (in which case perhaps you should complain to them and not me).
Or
Is it the fact that I complain when they don't implement the instructions properly? i.e. I expect them to do the job properly and follow simple instructions.
BTW - I do not think post people are lazy and I don't think anyone has said that.
I actually think they work hard for a low wage.what a boring life you must have to do all this moaning
My life is fantastic, only yesterday I was in the Gold suite watching the horse rqacing at Sandown.
Doesn't mean I don't care about the environment though and don't get annoyed when people can't follow simple instructions.
I'm sorry if that annoys you so much, but it's just a case of people following instructions, that's all.0 -
Simpler to just opt out (as mentioned earlier in this thread) surely?
Stompa
I agree that is is simpler to opt out.
But if you want to change the policies of an organisation then you have to campaign/protest.
"All progress depends on the unreasonable man".
Often I think like you and take the pragmatic approach but sometimes I'm in the mood to take a stand out of principle against an organisation even if the immediate problem seems petty.
We are all starting to see now the affects of climate change so we have to take more responsibility (and yes I am for real). The gas and petrol prices rises are for real too.0 -
Hi BennyYou can always recycle the junk mail!
Recycling is not as good as not using in the first place.
The chlorine to bleach and printing ink won't be recycled.I spoke to my local postie of 15 years and he said if they didn't have the free junk mail to deliver the post Office would be out of work and so would he.It's an extra source of cash for the post office! Maybe it even helps to keep the postage prices down? Help keep your postie in work!
Yes am I'm sure some loggers would be out of work too if they stopped cutting down the rain forest !!
Sorry but you have to think of the bigger picture and not just the immediate effects.0 -
some of the 'to the occupier' stuff can be quite important, The council were in contact with me last year because sombody had 'enquired' as to wether a public footpath ran through my back garden because it said so on the ordanance survay maps! If I hadn't recieved the 'to the occupier' letters I could have random people trampling through my garden while i'm trying to sunbathe lol. They eventually realised that although technically my garden boundries were blocking a public right of way they could just use the pavement at the front of my house to get around and abolished the other right of way (but this was only after nearly a year of correspondance with them) all saying 'to the occupier' lol, but I shudder to think how much money they spent on that having people come round only to realise that infact going through my back garden would be a long way around my house although people might of liked the detour to admire my garden? who knows lol...
oh and the 1st letter i recieved the tone of the letter was quite nasty telling me it was an offence to block a public right of way, Its not as if i built the thing (was ben bailey back in 1950's) but at least if they had said we had to let people use the right of way it didn't cut through my living room like it did my next door neighbour! lol0 -
Just in case you thought opting out would stop this: stuff addressed to the occupier will still be delivered; it is only the unaddressed stuff which won't.Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0

oh oops lol0

I printed off a no junk mail sign for my door, and most delivery people avoid it.
Of course, most are foreign and don't speak English, so I had to put a sigh with a big cross on it.
Incidently I wrote to Greenpeace to ask them why they didn't hand out signs to stop junk mail. They replied (I am not making this up) that they use junk mail to get funds.
There's honesty for you.0 -
Piece in the papers today about a post man suspended for telling his customers how to avoid and opt out of receiving this junk mail. I think the post office will regret that as its caused lots of publicity they don't want !

Interesting to note that (presumably) because we've opted out of 'door to door' junk deliveries we didn't get a copy of the new Royal Mail pricing size guide that they say they've "sent a copy of to every address in the UK".Stompa0
