Not sure how things go on at a post office sorting dept.
I remember yonks ago mail being delivered before I went to work. Now anything up to 2pm.
YET Saturdays its 8am in my town, although Fridays is when commercial folk clear any backlog, so sorting boxes should be FULL.
  • The post office just keep ignoring me even though I completed their 'opt out' route. So today I'm letting the postie know that if he keeps doing it - I will build up a pile of THEIR rubbish and fill their post box with it (small one along the street). That'll pee them off as other people have advised. Then they might organise themselves better. Why not put a very small 'dot' or something on the letter box itself to act as a reminder if they can't cope with all of the addresses that opt out. Bottom line is that they don't want too as screw customer service, revenue comes first.
  • I know it is very irritating and filling up their postbox with junk mail might give you a bit of satisfaction but it will not acheive what you want (which is to be opted out of junk mail) and it will cause inconvenience to lots of ordinary people who just want to send their post but can't because you've filled the postbox up.

Frustrating as it is, I would suggest you write an official letter of complaint along the lines of "I submitted my Royal Mail opt out form on xx/xx/xx [insert date] but am still receiving unaddressed junk mail x months later. This has been causing me considerable stress and inconvenience, goes against my environmental principles etc. etc. I am very disappointed that a reputable company such as Royal Mail has treated me in this way. Please could you stop delivering unaddressed junk mail to my home with immediate effect and explain why I have still been receiving it for so long."

Obviously you would need to pad it out and put it in your own words. I tend to find with complaint letters it pays to say how suprised you were as you had such a good impression of the company and also to emphasise how upset you are (distress/inconvenience) rather than how angry/annoyed you are. Make sure you state very clearly at the end what you want (i.e. unaddressed junk mail to stop) and also request an explanation as this helps to make you sound more reasonable and less irate.

It's entirely up to you what you do, I am merely suggesting an approach which may get you what you want.

My local postie said that the address for opt out 'customers' is flagged at the sorting boxes and if too many ask, it was a nightmare, extra work etc, "could lead to delays" is how he put it.

I think this is a good thing.
I hope they "get the message" that people don't want it.
The post office just keep ignoring me even though I completed their 'opt out' route.

Send them a letter stating that you will charge them £1 per item for picking up, storing and environmental disposal of their "junk". If they don't pay then you'll take them to the small claims court.
If you want a letter template then let me know because I've already done this.
I've not implemented it, just used the threat.

An alternative collect it up and take it into the collection office and throw it on their floor and tell them you are doing the same to them as they are doing to you.

BTW - I was driven to this after them ignoring about 20 complaints.
I think they have "B**CH LIVES HERE" by my address, which doesn't bother me if it acheives the goal.
if they can't cope with all of the addresses that opt out

    This really is THEIR problem.
They are charging for a service which imposes on people's privacy and time not to mention the environment, so what do they expect.
I hope it all becomes unworkable for them and they stop doing it.

  • postie told me they get 1p for every unaddressed piece of mail they deliver and i know that isnt alot but i bet it adds up with all the junk mail arriving so they are very unlikely to stop such a lucrative earner, are they??!!!!
People bring great joy into our lives..some by arriving, others by leaving.im trying to be one of the former, so please bear with :)

Just put your junk mail back in the post with the "opt out" address on it, play them at their own game.

You could also write on it your name / address and "Here is ANOTHER piece of junk mail I have received off you that I have "opted out" from but you have not done your job!!!!"

This is the better option, also try Allan Leighton. They wont read it(Too busy counting their bonuses) but it should initiate a reaction as the letter gets passed down the rank and file.

Opting out seems to be spreading.
So if it gets to the extent where the profit drops (less houses) and the work increases (sorting the opt-outs) then it will readch a point where it just isn't profitable for them.

They could increase the price but then they may become uncompetitve with other marketing methods.

Obviously this hasn't happened yet, it would take quite a bit more momentum, but as people catch-on that they can do this then I certainly think it's possible that it could become unworkable/unprofitable for them to do.

Depends what proportion of the population can be bothered really.

Currently I think people are becoming more aware of environmental issues and that will continue to increase as people become increasingly taxed for it.

Can't you just put a polite 'NO JUNK MAIL' notice on your front door? I am about to do this. The only junk mail I get now seems to come direct from the Postman.
LOL I've actually put one on I found from a campaign sometime ago........................tho ONLY person to take note of it is the old chap that delivered the freebie local paper!!:rolleyes: Bless him!
