I have a pin device for Nationwide - they are a pain in the proverbial. I closed my Barclays accounts when they issued the b things. Thank goodness Halifax hasn't got them.
I notice that I don't seem to have to use the one for Nationwide as much now, so I wonder if they realise its a carp idea.

That's one of the main reasons for the switch after the last £22 charge, which occurred because i used my number 2 card instead of my number 1 card on a purchase, i realised straight after, but was in work and did not have my card machine, so typicallly - had to work on, got home late and forgot, transfered the next morning but i incurred the charge! - even though my other accounts were in credit by hundreds!

At least if that happens with the Halifax it will be a £1 and if i catch it the same day, no charge :)

I've just opened this account, transferred £500 in the same day I opened it and it appeared on my online banking (I already have online banking set up as I have a savings account with them). However two days later the £500 has gone from my account and no transactions are recorded. Apparantly the account is not fully open yet as i've not received anything in the post or signed anything. Bit worried, but has anyone else had anything similar happen?

Yes, someone said something similar earlier - it's a glitch and the money will return :)

I have an ordinary current account with Halifax - I've had it for several years.

I presume I can apply for the new Reward current account and reap the £5 per month.

Is it opened as a separate account, and does it automatically move direct debits over. Or do I have to keep both accounts going for a bit while the DDs are transferred over?

Also I guess the £5 offer can't last forever, so has anyone noticed a DISADVANTAGE to moving to the new type of account?

Open it as an extra -keep just £1 in it and move £1000 from you existing account and back each month.
You can open 1 sole and 1 joint Reward account and move the same £1000 through both (and get £10 a month) You may also find that there is a loophole that (having opened 2 rewards) you can convert your existing account to a reward and get £15 a month :D

Haven't I read somewhere here that Halifax will be changing ordinary current accounts over to Rewards anyway, on 6 December? -- I could've misunderstood. Hope it's true as been trying to get OH to change his for months, and I wouldn't have to nag any more!

Thanks. Just in case anyone else has the problem of a deposit dissapearing, it left my account for 8 days before it mysteriously reappeared on my statement on the original date.

    No :D I think i confused you :)

On the 6th December Halifax will launch a basic account, because at the moment there is the Rewards account and the Extra rewards account (think that's what it is called, but it's the one you have to pay £12.50 for it).

I had a letter yesterday saying "You have not credited your account with £100 so we have not been able to issue your card"

This is in spite of £1000 being credited for the last two months and reward being paid. HOWEVER, that was via internal transfer.

I am not too bothered as I don't need a card, but I thought I better transfer £100 in from external source to make sure the account is fully legit. (I have two so wouldn't want them cancelling one!)

Might be worth people making sure you have at least one external transfer of £100 on the books.
