Halifax reward current account

Was that because they were done as standing orders (in which case they could go out of sequence) or done manually via the online banking "quick transfer" (in which case you have full control on the sequence)?
I've never had a problem doing it manually.
Oh, and how on earth did they allow the transaction to proceed anyway if it would cause an unauthorised overdraft? I guess you asked them that!!0 -
In son's case - all manual transactions -the first ones he had done as they were new accounts. At one stage 1 acount showed a balance of £- 1000 ( as has been reported many times on here) - but as expected was corrected overnight. He is thinking that its related to their new charging structure auto generating letters if a negative balance is picked up (IT issue!!!)
Ah, that issue shortly after opening - as you say well docummented. I had that too, they wrote the letter but then once the system corrected itself and the £1000 re-appeared again (backdated) they never actually charged the fee. I didnt need to complain, it just didn't happen.0 -

Great news....johnmoney05 wrote: »I did that all the time. BUT this month I got caught by that. They sent me a letter caliming that I used their unarranged overdraft, and would charge me £5 next month.Happened to my son too.
Not so great
Seems we could get 'caught' too if we had more than one and did inter-Reward TFs the same day; particularly as we wouldn't use the the accounts for anything else except filtering £1k through -- that's all I do with my one Reward now, no other transactions.
The monthly £1k comes from Natwest where our main current accounts are, though we do have savings with Halifax. Not SO, I always transfer manually with FP.
But if the £1k was left in each Reward overnight, no chance of charges?
So to do the rounds through all accounts and back again would take 4 days. (Transfers in from Halifax savings don't qualify for the fiver, is that right?)~cottager0 -
(Transfers in from Halifax savings don't qualify for the fiver, is that right?)
i am not so sure about that, considering those that have 3 reward accounts hvae been paying £1000 into reward account 1, transfer to reward account 2 and then transfer into reward account 3 and get £5' s on all 3 accounts, it doesnt appear to matter if the money is from an external source or from another halifax account itself.
it would be interesting if other people have done this though as my monthly saver matures in december and was going to pay £1000 from it into each of my 3 reward accountsMFW#105 - 2015 Overpaid £8095 / 2016 Overpaid £6983.24 / 2017 Overpaid £3583.12 / 2018 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2019 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2020 Overpaid £2583.12/ 2021 overpaid £1506.82 /2022 Overpaid £2975.28 / 2023 Overpaid £2677.30 / 2024 Overpaid £2173.61 Total OP since mortgage started in 2015 = £35,574.790 -
Transfers in from Halifax savings don't qualify for the fiver, is that right?
No, any credit to the account qualifies, regardless of where it comes from.
I have been doing internal transfers from my main Halifax current account to my two extra Reward accounts, with an instant in and out transfer, and have never been threatened with a charge.0 -
When you all opened accounts, did you open your rewards accounts at the same time? as i need to have 4 opened at the same time (2 for me, 2 joint) - any problems with this?0

Yes the problem is that post November 1st you are only allowed to open one sole and one joint account per person.

The only problems are ..
(a) the new rules say you can have only 1 sole, 1 joint
(b) there is sometimes a problem shortly after opening where you put money in and it dissapears for a couple of days, then comes back. I would suggest put a few quit in to start with, make sure it stays put for a few days before you credit larger sums or make withdrawals.
Otherwise no problem with applying at the same time.0 -
Thanks for the info. I'll have to ring them, surely they can oblige if me & the wife are moving all our business away from Barclays to them, they should welcome us with open arms!
We would need in total -
4 current accounts - 2 each, one for salary and one for spare cash (these would not have to be a reward account)
2 joint current accounts, one for bills and one for food shopping.
I can't compromise as this has worked very well for us, we know exactly what we have each month.0
