I had a letter yesterday saying "You have not credited your account with £100 so we have not been able to issue your card"

This is in spite of £1000 being credited for the last two months and reward being paid. HOWEVER, that was via internal transfer.

I am not too bothered as I don't need a card, but I thought I better transfer £100 in from external source to make sure the account is fully legit. (I have two so wouldn't want them cancelling one!)

Might be worth people making sure you have at least one external transfer of £100 on the books.

It doesn't have to come from an external source (mine were internal), the criteria is that this £100 must stay in overnight. (The normal £1000 to get the £5 Reward doesn't have this requirement, that can go out straight away).
  • can i put £1000 in and take straight out each month?

Haven't I read somewhere here that Halifax will be changing ordinary current accounts over to Rewards anyway, on 6 December? -- I could've misunderstood. Hope it's true as been trying to get OH to change his for months, and I wouldn't have to nag any more!

I went into branch on Saturday and asked if I could change my bog-standard CA to a reward account and was told yes but the account would become a reward account in anycase on 6th December. As I was in a rush and changing there and then would have meant waiting for a free appointment I left it at that. However can find no mention of 6th December on their website or new terms booklet.....think I will ring up tomorrow

The branch is mistaken. The reward style fees will come in automatically, but not the £5 that Halifax pay you for putting in £1,000. You have to ask for your account to be upgraded to a reward account.
  • I upgarded my Halifax current account to the reward account via a telephone call to them. It was upgraded easily and quickly.
  • on opening my £5 reward account the lady told me that the £5 reward will be paid in automatically on the 1st of the month. at 3pm this afternoon mine hadn't yet been paid in. i was in branch at the time so the cs lady checked my acount, then her own account & neither account had received the £5.
i guess halifax might be a bit slow off the mark dishing out the fivers.
everybody check that they've gone in.

My £5 Rewards have always appeared on the 2nd of the month (although the statement records it as the 1st of the month) except where the 2nd falls on a weekend.

    Yes.
Mine have always appeared the second working day of the month.
    Dated the previous day.
