This looks quite good has anyone got any experience with Halifax on line banking?

Basically i am currently with Barclays and i have:

No1 account - pay goes into
Joint shopping account - between me & wife
Joint Bills account - between me & wife

And the wife has the same. as we can both view the joint accounts when we individually log it.

The Barclays site is easy to pay people, move money around the accounts. Would i get the same from Halifax?

    Thanks for any info!

Halifax & HSBC/First Direct have, arguably, among the best internet banking sites available.

Thanks, yes i have just been on the online demo - much easier and quicker than Barclays.

But is that the case with a real account, is it fast to use? I am even impressed with the free overdraft facility for the 1st 4 months to cover missing payments from the DD etc - very handy.

I use Halifax. I find it easy to move money around and if you want to pay a bill from your account there is a speedy pay option, where the bill is in the other persons account within a couple of hours.

One thing I did find annoying when I first started using it - to set up Direct Debits, when you set up a payment to a new company/person they send you and email to say that is what you have done, and don't make the payment straight away. You have to go back and make the payment. Sorry probably not explained that well - once the person is in your list of direct debits, it is then just a matter of clicking on their name.

I manage 6 accounts (3 of which are Reward accounts) via the internet banking interface and generally find it very good.

Thanks, great info. I have 2 other current accounts that i use as holiday account, xmas account etc - Is it easy with Halifax to split an account up or have extra accounts? It would be great to see them all at once and shift the money arround when needed from one place.

You can currently (as far as I can recall, but check the website) have a sole Reward plus a joint one (so you and your wife could have a sole account each, plus a joint one between you) - if you move the qualifying £1,000 between them monthly, you'll be paid the £5 on each - I simply rotate £1,000 from A>B>C and back again to earn £15 per month.

There are also a variety of Web Saver accounts which can be used for the sort of purposes that you describe.

I bank online with the Halifax and would recommend it.

The only think I would complain about is the flakiness of their faster payments system. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

All other things work simply and efficiently.

    Thanks Debbie!

I'll have to ring them first and see if I can open up 2 current accounts in my name 2 in the wifes and 2 joint accounts.

I presume they open up the accounts first and make sure the cards/accounts are activated then transfer the direct debits over my barclays account?

Think i'll study my existing accounts and jot down all outgoings and dates, so it will all go smoothly, i guess the only manual thing i have to do is alert my work of the change for my pay. Anything else i should do manually - it's been ages since i changed accounts?
