not sure how this is supposed to work, it is the semen's direct action on your cervix that can induce labour, not digesting it :rotfl:
Apparently the hormones in semen also also work if you ingest them. Some hospital use tablets rather than pessaries to bring on labour. Some say it worked faster if you swallow but perhaps this rumour was started by a man!!0 -

I have nothing to help whatsoever I'm afraid. My contractions were 3 minutes apart for the whole of my 20 hour labour and I spent the entire time either in the bath or flat on my back exhausted:rotfl: Good luck, be prepared to have your hand crushed to the point of needing an x-ray, be cursed to hell & back & for a blood bath at the end of it all....and it's all normal:rolleyes:. Good luck & let us know the outcome:TPost Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p

Some women have these for quite a while - it could be the latent stage of labour - the cervix needs to soften and thin out before it starts to open and women will have contractions. Best thing to do is for her to get as much rest as she can and keep eating and drinking.
Best time to go into hospital - when the woman is chewing the mantlepiece!"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee."0 -
i am in same boat - my baby boy was due 1st june.
have tried EVERYTHING ! he just clearly isnt ready to come.
i am moving house on friday and midwife wants to do membrane sweep on thursday
so i need to bribe him out somehow before then
she said she couldnt do it before i was 41 weeks but told me how its done so that OH could have a go
a friend of mine recommended a good cry - worked with both of her pregnancies.
i have just received an e-mail that made me sob my heart out
so fingers crossed0 -
I'm not sure about the bath thing. I was told by the midwife a warm bath is good for helping with the pain but can sometimes slow the labour down.
I was induced with both of mine and believe if left to her own devices I would still be pregnant with my first if I hadn't been induced :rotfl:. I tried every idea that has ever been suggested to bring on labour but at the end of the day they come when they're ready. Things don't change much after birth either
Good luck all you pregnant people, I'm feeling very broody now :smileyhea0 -

do you realy want to risk it ? what is the need for taking rasberry leaf other than to bring on labour ? ? 35 weeks is still very early ? ?0 -
taking raspberry leaf regularly is thought to tone the uterus and make contractions more regular and efficient when labour does start.
IMO midwives often seem to be telling women they will go into labour any minute and 3 weeks later they are still pregnant!
Nobody knows when labour will start and babies are usually born when they are ready. Before 37 weeks is classed as premature and increases the likelihood of the baby having problems when it is born."Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. if i thought that it would actually bring on labour then i wouldnt be taking it but it doesnt. it helps tone the uterus in preperation for the birth and that is all i started taking it at 35 weeks when i was pregnant with my daughter and she was still 2 weeks late and came the day before i was due to be induced. which is why i mentioned in an earlier post that red raspberry leaf tea is only really effective for its purpose if it is taken on a regular basis a few weeks before the imminent birth is due to happen. therefore if the chances of me going into labour anytime from 35 weeks if i waited until 35 weeks to start taking it, it would have no real effectThe Only Thing Men Can Do Right Is Get Everything Wrong

My midwife says don't take until 37 weeks
I read in a magazine with my last pregnancy it was 32 weeks, then 35 in a different mag.
Is there a definitive answer??!!!
And have to disagree with Iwanttosave...my sis, my friends and I all agree you don't forget the pain the moment you see your beautiful baby;we've had long chats about it . I can still remember everything about my 1st labour and hope that this next labour at some point in the next 4 weeks will be shorter and less painful.
But we did agree the pain is worth it.
We've just been discussing this in a thread on my Babyworld forum and the consensus seems to be that it's OK any time in the 3rd trimester. If you're taking capsules/tablets then the recommended daily dose seems to range from about 1800 to 2400mg. I believe the capsules are stronger than the tea - you'd have to drink a lot to have an equivalent effect!
The ones in Holland & Barrett look like fairly good value at the moment: 100 x 640mg for £6.49, I think they're on special offer. Works out cheaper per day than the ones in my local independent health food shop, anyway.
Having not yet been through labour myself (I have it to look forward to in August!) I can't say from experience whether you actually forget the pain, but I think that what Iwanttosave may have meant was that you don't actually re-live it in the same way that you can re-live other memories. I mean, you remember that you felt a lot of pain and discomfort but you can't close your eyes and re-experience exactly what it felt like at the time - not in the way that you can re-live an experience that made you feel a certain way emotionally. Basically, we aren't capable of remembering physical pain in the same way as we remember places, feelings, etc. I hope that made some kind of sense!
To support what someone else said about "self help", I heard that, since an orgasm normally causes the uterus to contract in any case, in may be helpful in triggering labour contractions. If your OH won't oblige then you could always try a vibrator!0
