How to bring on Labour!

Spud was a week late, I could say it was the exceitment of the car boot sale I went to in the morning, or hubbys threat of making me watch the entire Ailen trilogy that night (we were literally just sitting down to the 2nd one when my first contraction happend) but I think it was just wating until Spud was ready. Best advice I can offer is try to enjoy doing nothing, it'll be your last chance for years!
ps : Labour wasn't as bad as I was expecting, honestly.Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p
In England we have Mothering Sunday & Father Christmas, Mothers day & Santa Clause are American merchandising tricks:mad: Demonstrate pride in your heirtage by getting it right please people!0 -

Hi Juliepink26
Has you midwife told you that your baby's head is engaged and, if so, by how much?

I've got nothing to add to help you get started. My 1st was 2 days early, 2nd born on due date. I just wanted to say whilst you're waiting for baby to turn up make most of having a nap, a bubble bath (alone and in peace), walking to shop only taking your purse with you etc. You'll look back on being able to do these things days as though it was a lifetime ago very soon;)0

Ive only seen the same midwife twice every other apointment the midwife has been diffrent, the last one i saw told me the babys head was in the right place after poking around with my belly for a good ten min, but thats all she told me. To be honest all the info i know i have found out myself through websites, mags and friends etc .The hospitial and midwife's have been hope less!!
Ive got my rasberry leaf tea today, tastes quite nice actually and stocked up on pineaples. Iam starting to look forward to having this baby not fealing as scared as i was last night (thanks to all advice). Ive had so many long baths iam starting to shrivel up! The nursury is all ready, hospitial bags all packed, house is spotless, nearly killed OH today for frying some bacon because it messed up the cooker!! (iam starting to lose the plot, i blame my hormones)
What eles do i need to do?
Think tonite am going to put feet up and watch a nice film, did "Gone with the wind" last night, not sure what to watch tonite...People who live in glass houses shouldnt throw stones...
It is much easier to see other people's failings than our own.0 -

I'm sorry to hear the midwives are not being as helpful as they should.
When is your next appointment? If you have not gone into labour by then there are a few direct questions you could be asking for help and advice.
BTW, have you read and tried my suggestion in a previous post? If sex is out of the question, have you tried my suggestion in post number 9? 'Helping yourself' (ie masturbation) gets you going too.
But as others have said, don't be in too much of a hurry, put your feet up and enjoy the peace and quiet, you won't get much in the next 18 years  .

My best wishes go to you both, hope all is OK.
I'm sure you will have tried this but a warm bath, or a walk might help if she has the energy. Have you called the midwife for any advice, and to let her know your wife's labour has started?
Good luck, let us know how it goes.

Just running a bath now for her . Yes we have been to the hospital and after my wife was examined, we were sent back home again until she has them closer together. Thanks for replying, I dont like to see her in all this pain when I cant do anything :mad:0

You might not be able to do anything about the pain but it sounds like you are being kind and considerate so good on you. In a few hours she will be cursing you as the devil incarnate so make the most of the calm before the storm.
Good luck!
Juliepink - your reaction in relation to the bacon was quite normal. You are now in the "nesting" phase and woebetide the OH who interferes with that.
Good luck to you too.0 -
When I was having contractions with my last daughter they had been going for about 14 hrs and the midwife told me to stay active, get up and walk around as it encourages the baby to drop into the pelvis. This can be a really frustrating time for you both but the way I delt with it is to think that every contraction is one nearer to the birth.
Good luck to you both, hope everything goes well and although you're both stressed, try and enjoy every minute of this precious time.0
