Anyone had a call from Accident Investigation Bureau?

I have today had a phone call from an "unavailable" listed number, the caller stating his name is Mike and is ringing from NHS Accident Investigation. He spoke with an Indian accent, and I did not understand him at first. He repeated the information three times, told me he had received information that somebody at this address had had an accident, would I please give him the name of the person. I told him nobody had had an accident, he said "Not at work? Not in the car? not falling over on the pavement?" I said NO, and he became very abusive and shouted at me to just give him the name of the person who had had an accident. I told him not to get shirty with me, nobody had had an accident and he said his information must be wrong. I was very rude to him, and told him where to get off then put the phone down.
Just had a call from these guys.. said I had no idea what he was talking about (cos I didn't) I told him to phone back and not withhold his number (whilst meanwhile I set my mobile to record the call).. He calls back, and before I can even address his question he's calling me a MF, C ... Yes, sure sounds like a professional investigator to me!! Now what shall I do with this recording hmm... ;-)0 -
I just had a call about this. I didn't get the name of their 'company' but he kept saying he got my number from the 'Accident Survey Bureau' when I pressed him on who they were he just kept repeating it. He was quite addament I'd had an accident until I explained I didn't drive.
Eventually I told him to hang on while I Googled 'Accident Survey Bureau' to see who they were. When I asked him how to spell Bureau he hung up... obviously he didn't know how to spell it either! (incidently it only came up with 4 results one about a Russian plane crash)0 -
I had a call from these idiots today. As soon as I heard the words "Accident Investigation Department" I knew it was a load of old rubbish and told the bloke (Indian) that I was not interested, before telling him "goodbye" and putting the phone down. After a minute or two the phone rang again. This time I told him I was registered with the TPS, so why was he calling me? I was amazed when he told me, "Shut your mouth and listen to me." Needless to say I told him to go away in a considerably less polite way than previously but didn't actually put the phone down, so for all I know he is still ranting on now. His bill, not mine, so I don't care.0

Well, I've now had x4 of these calls from this same person from this same company in the last few days. I have actually recently made a claim from a road accident which is now closed (received written confirmation from my solicitors). So I listened to this guy but then realised he has nothing to do with them as I have just moved house... aka no-one has my new details yet! SCAMMER!! Does anyone know who I can report this too or how?0

@Annoyed Woman
I've had a call from them every day for the last couple of weeks. They keep telling my that I will get £3000 compensation but can't tell me what injury I suffered. £3000 would seem like a good deal for a broken finger nail, not so good if I broke my back.
I have started pushing them to tell me what data the mythical Accident Bureau provided them with and asking to speak to their data protection officer, as covered by the 1998 Data Protection Act! They tend to hang up at that point.
Each time they call I make a spur of the moment decision whether to try to find out more information from them (where are they really calling from? how do they have my information? which company is it? what are they really after?) or just ask them to leave me alone.

I was at a friends house this evening when she had a call from someone who hung up on her. 2 minutes later, the phone rang again and I told her I would answer it. The "gentleman" on the end of the line told me he was from the Accident Investigation Bureau. linked to the NHS. I decided to waste his time (as I had nothing else to do) and managed to string him along for a little while. He told me he was calling about the car accident someone in my house had been involved in last year but couldn't tell me a specific date. I then asked him his company name. He spelled it out for me as P. U. S. S. Y. He then went on to verbally abuse me and tell me that all British were s**t and went on to describe in graphic detail what he would like to do to me, all of it none too pleasant.
It worries me, in fact it scares me, to think that British companies are taking our details and selling them to companies like this. I'm lucky, I'm a 37 year old who can hold her own in most situations. But what if this call had been answered by some one less secure? His manner was offensive and, even worse, racist. I would love to find out the name of the parent company of this call centre as there has to be one, there has to be a way to report them for racist and sexual abuse. NO ONE should be allowed to get away with this.0 -
Hi All
Just a word of warning -these scammers are on the prowl again. I have just received a call from a very rude man who said he had information that someone at the address had had an accident in the past 2 years. I pushed him about who he was and why he was calling and he started shouting at me that he was with a government department and I must talk to him. I asked who he was with and he said the National Health Service. I told him I work for the National Health Service and didn't believe he was any part of it . He said that I didn't know anything and I said I know that I'm with the TPS and am ex-directory and that I want to know how he got my number. He was still shouting about how he was from a government department when I told him I wasn't interested in whatever it was he was selling and put the phone down.
I'm very cross that he would have my number and having gone on the TPS site I find that I cannot report it there because it wasn't really direct marketing - we never got to a point where I found out if he was selling anything or what he wanted.
So.. to make a long story short - beware all! PLEASE don't anyone get caught out and give these people any further information.

I may have just had a call from these people, I didn't quite catch where they said they were calling from but it was something ending in Investigation Bureau. He said he was calling about an accident in the last 3 years for someone at my address, when I said that was no one at this address he asked if I was sure and asked me to think back. I said again there was nothing like that for anyone at this address and he went, but he seemed quite surprised! I tried checking the number with 1471 but it wasn't available.
I'm annoyed that they have my number as I'm registered with the TPS and ex-directory, I'm always careful that I do not allow my details to be shared when filling in any forms.
The problem is there is not really any way to report this without a phone number for the company.0 -
My husband has had great fun with this lot in the last week. On one call he told them that he'd been decapitated in an accident and that it was tricky to hold the phone now he was just a head on a cushion. That didn't get rid of them though, the caller was still asking for all the details of the 'accident'.
He's been at a bit of a loose end since the 'problem with your windows pc' scammers stopped calling. On various calls he'd told them that he only spoke french, that he'd have to put them on hold and then popped the phone on the side with a song on repeat on his mobile for 10 minutes and, my personal favourite, that he'd found the laptop on a train and he was worried he was being followed by James Bond and then started yelling that spies were coming up the garden path before hanging up on them. :rotfl:0 -
I have a lot of accidents, they phoned me and I accidently detuned the radio, dropped the phone next to it and turned it on full blast.
Accidenets will happen.Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
