  • I was sick to death of receiving nuisance calls, at my peak I was picking up the phone to around five of these a week! I did a bit of research and found a few companies that specialised in removing all of your personal details from the databases these scammers use. I decided to go with a UK based one called i-Allow and the number of calls a receive now is almost negligible these days. I can only assume its down to the work of these guys!

  • Get a call from these idiots atleast once a week, they always seem to be calling from overseas. Always play them up when they ring and on the last call spoke to them in spanish when he couldn't understand english and wanted to know if I spoke Punjabi.
    I hate migraines.
  • These muppets from "Accident Investigation Bureau" just phoned me - clearly nobody has told them I have time on my hands at the moment!

Apparently, someone in our household has had an accident within the last 2 years. Funny how they couldn't tell me who, or the nature of the accident, but wanted me to confirm this was the case.

Anyway, I kept the nice Indian lady chatting while I looked them up on Companies House - very surprised to find they don't exist!

I asked for their company registration number. That threw her and she told me she was only an intermediary, so I asked to speak to a supervisor. She asked me to hold for a moment and then we seem to have been cut off. I tried 1471 but there was no number so I couldn't phone back and continue our nice chat.

Hey ho - bring on the next victim!
  • Received call at 16:00 today (2013) from Indian/Pak caller asking about an accident. Claimed his name was John and he was calling on behalf of an organisation called Accident Investigation Bureau of 63 Cornhill(?) Way, London. Tel: 2890796001.

Just noticed that BT want to sell us a special phone that will block these calls - we're supposed to believe that they, BT, can't do it a network level.

As always TPS has been utterly useless.

Don't know who's the bigger spivs here.
  • Just had this firm call and have a long chat with my child! I was very annoyed. He said he was an Indian based in Manchester and his name was James Dohololey? I do not believe any of that but I am feeling very uneasy with how he used his chatty techniques to engage with a little boy! Where can I take this complaint?

I wouldn't bother. I doubt there's much you can do. Your best bet is to tell your son not to answer the phone if you're worried about what might happen when he does.
  • These are scam callers ready to take you and your privacy to a new level. Unless you want to suffer the consequences of abuse and regular call-back, you would be wise to avoid providing them with any information what-so-ever. Getting abusive to them will only antagonise them and probably result in you going on a list for more call backs.

If you type your own phone number into, for example, google, look at all the sources of information related to your number. There are many, many copies of that online.

The TPS can do nothing about overseas callers that have no UK office. Forget even trying. Only legitimate companies use the TPS, and if you're registered with them, you are unlikely to get calls from legitimate companies. That being the case, the vast majority of calls are a scam.

I suggest you hunt down the sources of your phone number and do your utmost to get removed from those lists. It'll take some time, but you will make progress. Study every single form you complete that requires you to reveal any details about you, including your phone number. For example, if you go in for a competition, you may be giving your phone number away to a business, and they may be selling your number on. If you provide your number number in the first place, you are giving them permission to call you. Any legitimate company will not abuse your contact details.Having said that, mistakes happen, so be cautious.

Additionally, they do call numbers at random, so even by removing your number from all databases, they can still get to you.

They only make these calls to extract money in some shape or form from you. Whether it be you paying them, or whether it be deeper than that and identity theft. That will cost you a great deal of money and annoyance.

They will only continue while they are successful.

Oh, and if you think it's costing them money to call you, while you leave them hanging on, think again. The calls are made via the Internet, so they are not paying for the call by the minute.

Life's too short, so don't let them get to you.

Had a call today from a guy called Steven with an Indian accent. He said that he knew I'd had an accident recently due to accident survey, at least I think that's what he said as I had a job to understand him. He said the survey was how he got my phone number. All rubbish of course as no accident and no survey completed. Anyway I asked him again what his company name was and as I was writing it down he put the phone down on me.

I don't give two hoots about it but I know if they had rung my eighty year old Mum up she would have been in a right tizz.

Lets hope this is my first and last call from this horrible company

Anyone think that because most of these calls are coming from companies based in India that a formal complaint to the Indian High Commission / Government is in order?
