PS3 - Playstation 3 - Pre order

I think if it was up to the computer entertainment sector of Sony, they wouldn't place these incredible disadvantages on the PS3. I'm certain the guys at the top is having a huge influence on the specifics on it
I mention this before but, although profiting, the Playstation sector hasn't proven to have a huge profit margin. I think (badly paraphrased) $11 Billion was invested and $1 Billion was made (or something ridiculous like that). I'm sure Sony are trying to hit a couple of birds with one stone with the PS3....but in turn, they are pushing away a lot of loyal customers (like myself).
The games have to be priced higher so that they can recover the costs of the console.
TBH, Sony and Microsoft joining the gaming sector was always going to be a double edged sword....on the one hand, you've got their financial and marketing power to push gaming to the masses - but on the other hand, you have to suffer under their corporate politics.
It's all about figures - and at the end of the day, we are just a stat
That is why, personally, I'm boycotting the PS3. If MS and Sony can see that they can get away with charging $600 for a games console and $55-65 for games, they will continue to do so with their future products. Gaming will not be for the masses at all0 -
You have to remember that this console (just like the Xbox 360) is subsidised by the games. This has been the preferred business model in the gaming console market for a long time now. I don’t think Sony have any choice but to follow this business model, they have more reason now than ever before.
If they switched to a conventional model and made profit on the console as well as the games, can you really see people buying a games console for £1,100+ , even if the games are £20 each?0 -

PS3 pre order strategy
I'm a bit dissapointed to see retailers doing bundle only pre orders, hopefully there will be some console only deals soon.
Gamestation are not doing a bundle as such. £425 for the console and it comes with a game. £20 to pre-order it from them. £50 from Virgin. £150 from HMV! :eek:Being bored is so boring Im bored of it... :rotfl:0 -

I would recommend a pre-order with Game... why? because they aren't taking pre orders until they know exactly how many consoles they are getting. They learnt from the 360 and it showed with the Wii. All pre-orders were forfilled within the first 2 weeks, with those guaranteed for launch getting them on launch (with the exception being people who failed to pick up their consoles within 48 hours).~Diminutive0
