A high end PC will easily last 4-5 years

Another point. If you get a PC of a higher spec than a PS3 or console. Over the long term all the games ever released on the console will run on the PC and also the games on PC will be cheaper and of higher quality e,g, they can be patched etc. Plus a PC is more versatile. You do the math. In other words initial investment is high but over the long term it may be cheaper.

    I have to disagree.

I still love to play games on my PS1, and none on my Athlon 3000 PC.

Maybe it is all to do with size ?

My widescreen TV is 32 inches, but my PC monitor is only 17 inches.

A PC is for typing and processing stuff.

A games machine is for playing games :D

    I own a PS1 and Xbox original.

Still love TOCA and Destruction derby on PS1, and PGR2 on Xbox.

I refused to buy Xbox360 as it would not play PGR2.

Bring on the PS3, and let it play my old Destruction Derby1 :D

Then why would anyone want to buy a PS3? Surely the PS2 will be perfectly fine for everyone ;)
What I think you mean is that you CAN'T upgrade consoles - Sony and Microsoft want you to throw away your old console and all the games and buy a new better one, that way they can make all the money rather than some PC component manufacturers in Taiwan.
The real debate is therefore do you want to spend a SHED LOAD of cash on a new console and games every 2-3 years, or a LOAD of cash on PC bits, spread evenly over time!
The other benefit of PCs is that the people making the upgrade components compete against each other, so prices come down much more quickly. If the XBox 360 could be upgraded in lots of little bits, or you could buy it from lots of different manufacturers the price would probably have halved by now.

dont agree......i used to build PC's along time ago...but its not worth it now.....PC's have to be totally upgraded every 3-4 years as the processor from3-4 will over that period struggle to cope with the latest games requiring more power and sloppier programming. Added to that change of formats...ie. PC Express garphics card which were £200+ when they first came out

The life span of a PC being able to play the latest games is only about 4 years, same as a console and then both need to thrown away.

Both have their advantages....PC games are generally better for stategy/RPG games and consoles are better for arcade/pick up and play type games. But PC's first and foremost are business machines and have to perform alot of other background tasks whilst you are playing your games, thus sapping power, added to that the unreliablity of anything Microsoft and incompatibilities (less frequent now) in my opinion gives Consoles the edge.

BUT my favourite games at the mo is Call of Duty 1 and 2 on the PC (not the consoles which are crap (Xbox360 one is ok) which is due to poor port

But I bet consoles can't play Day of defeat:Source as well as my PC can. And I upgrade my PC about once a year, if not more often :D But it only costs me a couple of hundred at most, because I can sell all the old bits off, or pass it down the line to the kids or nieces. I just got a brand new Dell p4 3.4GHz machine for less than £300 and I can sell the bits in my daughter's Athlon XP3200 for about £150ish, so not a bad price to give me, my son and my daughter newer machines. Whereas I need to pay £450 to get a PS3 and be left with a slimline PS2 which is worth at best £30.

This will be like the XBOX360 Saga. People who pre-ordered ended up the last people to get it. I had to cancel my so called PRE-order few months after the release date as Amazon could not fullfil orders in time and I went and bought a bundled one from Game.
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????

Well I plan on getting the Will, which will most likely cost between £100 and £200, with the games hopefully having the same rrp of £40 insend of the £60 for 360 and P3 game. I also may look into to getting a 'free' 360 on my phone upgrade when it comes up in the next 2 months from one of the deals floating about.

I don't know why people would go for a P3 personally as the 360 will get most of its ports, it is even getin the new GTA at the same time (or is it first).

I got 2 pre-orders in on the internet. Not sure if I will get them as they are from weak online sellers, the ones you want online are GAME and Gameplay, they take the internets market share.

what a rip off! more than RRP. ...dont bother as it will be no more than £299 by xmas

Yeah, and sure thats exactly what happened with the XBox 360 last year - NOT!!

Also, i suspect PLAY will cancel the orders of those who order more than one as from memory they did that last year with the 360.

I had one ordered via Amazon for myself and one ordered for my son via Play, the play one came no problem at the start of Dec, however the amazon one was more of a cheek clenching experience - it didn't arrive until 22nd Dec - although i wouldnt have minded waiting until after chrimbo for mine.

Probably going to be the same story this year - will just be a lottery as to who gets them when
