A high end PC will easily last 4-5 years
Let's look at the Nvidia 6800GT HIGH-END Graphics card release in Summer 2004 with a price tag of £250-300. It's been downgraded to a Mid-Range card not even 2 years later and the price drop has dropped to £150, running ES4: Oblivion, it will run at a lesser spec than the Xbox 360.
The PS2 was released in 2000 and 6 years later people are still playing it and the graphics have stayed pretty consistant.
Game patching has become available since the console market has connected to the internet (Xbox Live, PS2 Online) so it is no longer exclusively for PC.
Investment on the long term and short term if you're planning to buy something to play games... then I believe a Console wins hands down.Quote:
Consoles on the other hand DO NOT need to be upgraded
Then why would anyone want to buy a PS3? Surely the PS2 will be perfectly fine for everyone
What I think you mean is that you CAN'T upgrade consoles - Sony and Microsoft want you to throw away your old console and all the games and buy a new better one, that way they can make all the money rather than some PC component manufacturers in Taiwan.
As far as value-for-money is concerned for the PS3, you are paying for a Blue-Ray Player, a state of the art games console and a PS2 in one. Blue-Ray for those not in the know will be the not-too-distant-future replacement for DVD's.The other benefit of PCs is that the people making the upgrade components compete against each other, so prices come down much more quickly. If the XBox 360 could be upgraded in lots of little bits, or you could buy it from lots of different manufacturers the price would probably have halved by now.Target Savings: Deposit on my first property by September 2010>>>[Savings: 40.00% Complete]<<<[Debt: £0.00p]0 -

HD-DVD could still go ahead. Did I mention I hate control pads when playing first person games. Or the lack of mods. Or the possible fact that for a unified multiplayer system subscription is needed. PC has always been ahead in every respect and I wouldn't go back to consoles.0 -
Why not have both? They both have their pros and cons.
I don't think theres as much choice in PC games as you can get on the PS2 for example, plus a console is more fun if you have friends around.
I got annoyed with the lack of games on the PC that you can play through story mode networked, with my housemates, you have to go back to things like good old Doom
Online gaming on the PC is good thou0 -

ouch! that one really hurt... nope there's not much choice.... there is excessive choice many times more titles on pc than any console (even emulators) as a rough guide most console releases are pc releases too, then you have extras on top like UT2007, Quake Wars etc these won't be released on any console anytime soon

more to the point, did we all go through quidco?!!?!?The word is BOUGHT, not BROUGHT.
It's LOSE, NOT LOOSE.

I'd say you also get less problems with a console, its more plug and play.

Review
PS3 is the most advanced computer system that serves as a platform to enjoy next generation computer entertainment contents in the home, realized through the combination of Cell and RSX processors, in addition to the playability of a vast catalog of PlayStation and PlayStation 2 software titles.
Having Giga-bit Ethernet and a pre-installed hard disk drive (HDD) as standard in PS3, users will be able to download a variety of contents as well as access on-line games and services over the network.
Equipped with basic input/output ports, PS3 supports a broad range of displays from conventional NTSC/PAL standard TVs to the latest full HD (1080i/1080p) flat panel displays, offering the joy of the most advanced computer entertainment contents to homes around the world. For use in living rooms, maximum heat and noise reduction has been achieved with a noise level equivalent to that of the current slim-line PlayStation 2.
With the overwhelming computational power of the Cell processor, PS3 is capable of playing back content from Blu-ray (BD) disc at a bit rate of multiplex 48Mbps with ease, the maximum bit rate defined in BD standards.
The new controller for PS3 has been created by refining and improving the world¿s most popular PlayStation controller which has shipped more than several hundred million units worldwide. The controller for PS3 employs a high-precision, highly sensitive six-axis sensing system that is capable of processing all parameters within the controller itself, thereby eliminating the need for any additional settings on the display system. By applying this technology, it will become possible to freely control the PS3 system over the network.

My DH was told the console only was £300 or the pack with games etc for £410. If Play are charging more than this then I would think maybe the price will come down a bit before it's released?2023 wins - Rice Krispies, Avene Micellar Gel, Barbie Toy, £20 Apple Gift Card, KFC 6 piece bargain bucket, Chloe Nomade perfume, Barbie Toy (second one), Sanctuary Spa Sleep Balm, E45 Moisturising Lotion, Trolls Hamper, 12 Tonie Characters, Sure deodorant, Good Home Utensil holder, £5 Costa Gift Card, Neutrogena Micellar Jelly, Soap & Glory Mascara, Persil capsules,0
