www.ncn.ac.uk is a good starting point, plus you've got Castle College, West Notts and South Notts Colleges.

You've just reminded me I should have checked on a course for my friend ... oops!
    Gone ... or have I?
  • great now i have recieved a letter telling me to fill in a jsa5 form :( for back payment, but instead of sending me one with the letter they have told me to make an appointment with the jcp. are they really trying to make it as difficult as possible for me to claim?

i have also already filled in a form for back dating jsa, what are they playing at, im living off nothing at the moment, and there call centres are not open on a saturday :(

im angry and worried now, im sure they do this on purpose.

I don't think you should have received the letter! It may be that the system has seen you are applying for backdating, and therefore the letter has been generated without human intervention. Give them a call on Monday, at best they will tell you they have all the information they require, and at worst ... they have lost your form (unlikely, as all the information will have been passed to the processors together).

On a more positive note, it means that your claim is being processed ... and very quickly!

cheers dmg, the form had a stamp red stamp on it so i assume someone hadlooked at it, another thing is i remember filling the jsa5 form out and where it asked about looking for work i only put that i checked the job centre plus website everyday and that i rang an agency.

and as i am now aware that isnt enough searching for a job for 10 days, so im now concerned that i may not get it back payed? do you think that may be a problem

The stamp doesn't necessarily mean it has been cross referenced with your info ... and that is a lot more searching than many jobseekers do!

I think it would take a very strict (jobsworth?!) DM to disallow your claim because you have not done enough jobseeking - the JCP lists a good proportion of the available jobs, so it is not like you chose to look at a very limited website. Also, at the time you were looking your agreement had not been set up, so you were not aware of exactly what was required of you, but you were still looking for work.

If you do need to appeal the decision let us know and we'll help you phrase something.

thanks very much, that has put my mind at ease slightly :)
  • :(

rang them a few times today, anyway finally got a call back who said i will have to fill out another one :(

im really frustrated now, and they told me at present new claims that go through with no glitchs are taking 2-3 weeks, fine i thought, but it seems this one will take much longer, im skint and have got to go and sort out my housing tomorrow, oh and they cant just send me the form, i have to fill it in at the job centre as an adviser has to fill in the last page, im not happy at all :(
  • been to sort my housing out, even more mess because i dont know whether i will get awarded cont or income based jsa

so she has filled the form out, now i have to get my landlord to fill out another form

then i have to go back when i finally get jsa awarded.

im now getting concerned as i am skint and this seems like its going to take forever

and im also worried that they wont award me housing or jsa :(

Tell the LA that you wish to claim LHA/ HB on the basis of your low income. Unless you have other income or capital over £6,000, the type of JSA you receive will not make a difference to your claim (but one is easier for them to process than the other, hence why they would rather wait ;) ). You do not have to wait until your JSA claim has been processed.

I can't see why your initial JSA claim will take longer than anybody elses. It may take a bit longer to get your backdated payment, but the rest of your claim should be straightforward. Also don't worry if the first letter you receive does not refer to the backdating period, the letters are standard so may not reflect that you still have an outstanding claim.

Why are you worried about your eligibility? Going on the information you have given, there isn't anything that stands out as unusual.

I know it doesn't seem like it now, but 2-3 weeks is very good compared to some areas (and some benefits).

Any luck with the courses, or any potential jobs? ;)
