You could take a utility bill to show proof of address, but it would be a bit of a jobsworth to ask for all of this!

If you can have a think about what kind of work you want to look for that will hurry things up when you are there. Also, it might be worth mentioning to them that you are just getting over illness, so perhaps you don't want anything that would put you at risk of recurrence? They have to take this into account.

Unfortunately they would have been more likely to help you with funding had you still been on ESA.

Do you know how much the course will cost? There is a discretionary fund through the JCP, but it won't pay out large amounts, and they don't tend to pay for courses.

I think (though I could be wrong) that Work Directions only takes claimants in Notts who are either on IB or ESA, or who are long term unemployed. They are much more likely to provide you with funding than the JCP. It might be worth giving them a call to see if there is a way round this, but it may involve staying on ESA rather than moving to JSA (you can do this whilst appealing).

Just checked, WD's name has changed to Ingeus. Their number in Nottingham is 0115 8532000, or in Mansfield 01623 404206.

In theory it should be very quick, in practice it really depends on the LA.

Some will insist that you wait until your JSA claim is fully processed, if this is going to take a while (it seems to be pretty quick at the mo - I've just spoken to a friend who had a payment without ten days of claiming) you can ask that your HB/ LHA entitlement be assessed on your income rather than by virtue of your JSA claim.

  • been today, i have had to apply for the last 11 days to be back dated with a different form.

will i have to do that with hb??

also i have got to go tomorrow to sign on, is there anyway of getting transport costs refunded?

    thanks

I haven't seen a HB form for a while, the backdating used to just be a separate box on the main application form. You'll need to put the same thing though - your claim was suspended as a result of a change in your benefit entitlement, but you applied for it to be reinstated as soon as you were made aware of this change.

Unless you live remotely, you cannot get your transport costs reimbursed for normal signing. You can sometimes for additional appointments, but these won't happen until at least thirteen weeks of signing.

Did you ask about the course you wanted to do? Glad it went ok!
