Just spoken to the e-commerce dept, who would only offer to collect the item.
However, I'm at work during weekdays and no alternative returns method was offered.
Basically said it was a mistake and apologised, fair enough. All I can do is contact customer service dept in writing.
Their terms and conditions seem to suggest that a contract has been formed and as such the deal should be honoured. (see below)
2.1) All orders placed through our website will be subject to our acceptance of the order.
2.2) When you submit an order to us on our website you will receive a confirmatory email saying that we are processing your order. You will then receive a further email from us acknowledging your order and giving you estimated timescales for delivery. You should check both emails for accuracy and let us know immediately if there are any errors. Your order will be accepted by us (and a contract will then be formed between us) when we despatch the goods to you. Title to the goods will pass to you on delivery provided payment has been made in full.
2.3) Where you have used a promotional code to obtain a discount off the price of your order, acceptance of this order is subject to our verifying that the code has been issued to you personally. In the event that the code has not been issued to you for your personal use, the price of the order will be adjusted notwithstanding any email confirmation which you receive.
2.4) Should you wish to cancel your order or return any goods, please go to the Returns section for further information.
Guess I'll see what customer service dept has to say, no telehone number was given out, confirmed that the only way to contact was in writing.
Ah well, I'll give it a go, bloody thing is still advertised on their site, thought they would have pulled it by now.

I just had a chat with customer service as my "printer" has not been delivered yet and I dont want the hassle of having to be awake (night shifts) later in the week to get it collected, so am going to refuse delivery.
She said that the web page was wrong and that the printer was available in store, then she checked and found they are out of stock in store too.
Upshot is I will refuse delivery, get a reciept from "white van man" and they will refund my cc.
I doubt we will get far with the "I want my printer" as its discontinued anyway.
Good luck to anyone who wishes to spend the time and effort on trying! ;)
You might not need to refuse delivery because it does fit through the letter box!
It's a 64MB USBB
Whatever that is
It arrived a few minutes ago - what a joke ;D0 -
The product number's 110085, which, if you look, is a printer!!! grrrr ;D ;D ;D0

Well, I have done my bit in contacting watchdog (see below). This is crazy. This device on their web site (the USB stick) doesnt even mention how big it is - who would buy it not knowing its size??? And its sold out now (sent them all out I suppose!). If it is a 1GB stick then it is worth keeping, otherwise it is a rip off...
I find the whole thing amusing and want to see their reaction!
Letter is below (sent to watchdog@bbc.co.uk):
Dear Watchdog,
I am writing with regards to a recent order I placed for a printer with the index website (https://www.index.co.uk).
The printer was an HP Photo printer and the website had the price down as 19.99 (reduced from 99.99 - save 80%). Seeing this as a bargain I proceeded to purchase this printer as it was indicated as "in stock". I received a confirmation e-mail saying I would receive my printer within 3 days (see attached confirmation e-mails).
Expecting my printer to arrive today I was unfortunate enough to discover they had sent me the wrong item (a freecom USB key device which is nothing like a printer!). Having spoken to customer services they apologised and said it was a misprint on the web-site and they no longer had the printer, and had sent out this item instead!
I proceeded to check their web site and the item is still on there listed at that price but "out of stock". If it was indeed a misprint why did they not fix the site. (item can be found by looking for produce code 110-085).
I wouldn't have minded so much if they had contacted me to tell me it was a misprint BEFORE sending me the item and charging my card. They claim "Our Customer Charter is our pledge to you the customer. It contains our promise for safe and honest shopping." This does not seem to be the case!
Speaking to a few other friends who purchased the printer the same happened to them! Index were aware of what they had done and told us we could arrange for the item to be picked up or take it to the local store for a refund, hence alleviating them of all responsibility.
How can a USB Stick (http://www.index.co.uk/rf/navigation/product.do?product=96849747&D=218217145), who's item number AND price are completely different from that of the printer be sent out to a few people accidentally? I can only assume this was done on purpose to alleviate them of any responsibility to provide me with a printer.
I believe this warrants an investigation.
Regards,
BabblerBeing bored is so boring Im bored of it... :rotfl:0 -

I reckon that if you didn't get the second email you won't be charged and probably won't be included in the lucky dip0
