  • Penny Penguin - I think it was Queenie who used the term "numpty turnip" and I have to say I've used it today as well :rotfl:

I've just had one of those OMG moments, suddenly realised that it's MIL & FIL birthdays this month, as well as Father's Day and DD is going to a Birthday party on Friday - eeek  So many pressies to buy. I've just sorted MIL (been a bit naughty - I bought a candle with some b'day money of my own for 20 quid - but it was on BOGOF - so that's part of her pressie - the other part is getting a photo of DD blown up onto canvas via ebay for 13 quid - and yes she expects around that amount to be spent on her  ) My Dad won't expect a FD pressie but I'm going to get him the rolling stones CD as he likes them and he deserves a gift :A Now what to buy for a 7 year old boy? I'm used to little girls
Squares knitted for my throw ~ 90 (yes!!! I have finally finished it :rotfl: )
Squares made for my patchwork quilt ~ 80 (only the "actual" quilting to do now :rotfl:)

Yes it was beautiful! beaches lovely, very scenic, climate warm but with a lovely breeze to cool you down :D We stayed at an all inclusive so very cheap holiday but unfortunately it was mostly full of german and italian families so a bit of a language barrier! Still we managed with a bit of charades and lots of smiling! :rotfl:

germans love the canaries! and the canarians love the germans I found when i last went to gran canaria.

Thanks for that - Queenie, I'll give you a random thanks from DS, for making him laugh. ;)

SOMO1, 7 year old boy - lego. My DS has loads and still plays with it at 11. Don't know how much you want to spend, but for birthday parties, Bionicles are great. Loads of designs, and they're all freaky. This is good when you're 7, believe me.

Shaz, I don't like Marmite, either (except for twiglets) but it adds a savoury flavour to sauces. If not, worcestershire sauce. Even tomato ketchup. :p

Thought I'd take this opportunity (i.e. on home PC with all my formatting working properly!) to say:

roz - fab news on the flat :T

I have been spending my evening surfing property websites :D Am more of less resolved that my choice is between the following generic categories:
    1) newish studio flat with small bedroom off living room in grotty area of South East London zone 2
    2) ex-council 1-bed flat in grotty area of South East London zone 2
    3) not ex-council 1-bed flat slightly further out in South East London (zone 3 or 4, which would increase my travel costs).

Just want to be on lots of bus routes and have slightly more than 1 room IYKWIM... I don't want a straight studio (1 living/bedroom with no partition) nor do I want a kitchen in corner of living room (no room for washing machine and you end up with your bedsheets smelling of curry)

Ho hum, I hope I find out about my promotion this week... I want to know how much they're going to pay me, cos then I'll know whether I can start looking (properly) sooner than my December target.

Pathetic isn't it... to be on a salary like mine (which is currently an average "senior admin in London" type salary in five figures starting with a 2) and to have to work out which glorified bedsit I can afford...

(and what's even more galling is that I considered buying once before, 4 years ago... remember exactly when it was as everybody was hanging England flags out their windows (LOL) ... and studio flats in a building I looked at then for £80,000 are now selling for £110,000  - however I still believe it was right for me that I waited!)

Anyway I will stop waffling and go to bed in a mo :)

    Love Rzl xx

BRzl you could afford a condo by the beach over here. :D I could take you in my helicopter to all your concerts. ;)

    Goodmorning everyone,

Headache gone, but feel a bit off IYKWIM. I shall take it easy today me thinks and get stuck into the library books & the 2 Law & Orders I taped. What a good excuse. DD is going for an interview this arv. Fingers crossed. WM currently on & just had my toast & coffee. Had porridge with DH at 4.30am. :p Locksmith coming around 10am to fix the front door. Will get out of pj's by then. :D

It's my Mum's birthday today. This will be the first one without her. How things change quickly. This time last year I made her a chocolate cake (that didn't rise) and they teased me something awful down at the nursing home. Hussies. :D It tasted nice though. Benny our little dog, is limping again. He did that last year, went through the xray etc and nothing wrong with it. I'm thinking it might be something connected with the cold. It eventually clears up. I've been carrying him everywhere much to DH annoyance. :rotfl:

    Goodnight all

Ooooh that sounds lovely. I know - I'm jealous! My best friend is from a Sydney suburb and reckons that property prices are equivalent... i.e. $100,000 Aussie dollars will get you the same quality of accommodation as £100,000 UKP. And that's at an exchange rate of nearly 3 Australian dollars to the pound...

...wouldn't give up London for all the tea in China though :D (and FWIW my Aussie best mate is having trouble leaving too ;):D)
