Thanks Queenie - I was feeling incredibly guilty earlier as I threw yet another tea bag in the bin!
I've been a busy bee today (unusual for me) as I managed to get up before it got too hot. I've managed to sort loads of laundry that needed putting away and done another couple of loads. I 'experimented' with a wholemeal loaf last night, and it turned out lovely - I love the fact that I am forced out of bed to get the bread out of the machine when it beeps!
My desk is now visible and I am so proud of that as the monitor was only just in sight between piles of paper and folders. I've even dusted and hoovered this room (there's allways one you hate doing most isn't there!)
Neighbours will be pleased as I have bought new panels for the fence - still think I need a cockrell to go on top and wake me in the morn
I was reading about elderflower wine last night and it suddenly dawned on me that the tree in my garden might be an elderflower - but I couldn't find any pictures online to check it out.
I have however found a local 'ish' farmers market so I'm hoping we can go to that next Sunday. Just look at the effect you guys (sorry, gals!) are having on me!!!
Thanks all,

Evening Guys
Not much done here today really:rolleyes:
2 washloads done, dried and put away/ironing pile. Floors swept, and quick tidy through of house. DW done and emptied. Lunch and dinner had, and kitchen all clean and tidy.
OH has pottered in the garden and fixed the back fence. DD hasnt been feeling too good so has stayed indoors, done some reading and had a nap this afternoon. Her hayfever is quite bad.
Its been so hot here today, but we have just all had a cool bath (not together:rotfl: though) We have an air-conditioning machine but dont want to use as its gonna cost to use:p and am trying to continue without it. Its in the office if needed though.
I still havent finished my essay as my heads bee squiff again, so have done a couple of other needed bits to go along with the essay and will try and get it done tomorrow as Im back up the hospital Tuesday:o
Anyway, Im going to go. Hugs to all.

Kazonline wrote:Hi Penelope Penguin, I will look into it again. Last time I looked into it they didn't offer any discounts and those at focus were too expensive. I did have one at my old address in Aldershot (that council did have a discount scheme) but had to leave it there.
The council where I am are very slow on the recycling front. We've only had a curbside recycling scheme for the past couple of years, and at the moment that only consists of clear plastic bags - and we need to seperate everything into individual bags. I've only just found a way to manage this that doesn't involve having 5 bins on the go in the kitchen!!!
How do you manage your composting? Do you trek outside every time you have something to put in it? Or do you have some sort of system going? I'd soon get fit if I walked down the steps to the garden every time I had to put something in the composter!!!!

PS reading all about your chicks has made me want some. My neighbours aren't very impressed with me at the moment as it is - I'm sure they'd love it I got some...
Bit mixed on the chick news front. Posting on "my baby ducks have arrived" thread, for interest.
For composting in my kitchen, I have a small lidded bin (DH says 10litres) next to my sink. I line it with a supermarket carrier, as the compost tends to give out a bit of liquid, and it just helps stop spills. You can put a bit of absorbent kitchen towel under that, if you like. Just chuck in fruit and veg skins, tea bags, coffee grounds, tissues, loo roll middles, anything organic, but not cooked (cooked food is possible to compost, but this is covered in the advanced course:o ). You'll be amazed at how much this will reduce your weekly throwings. I then empty this to the heap outside as necessary. I also add the contents of the hoover, lawn clippings, annual weeds, droppings out of chicken house and the contents of my washing up bowl, to keep it moist. Weeing on the heap is often recommended, but can't persuade DH to do that (he has the fancy attachment thingy for easier aim, can you tell I'm on 2nd glass of rose??) and I can't keep my balance, standing on the top edge. Need to invest in a Whizaway!
My box was made from tanalised timber by DH, several years ago. It's based on the New Zeland box model, shown on Gardeners World by the late great Geoff Hamilton.
Let me know if you have any other questions, Penny. x:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -

Lol, that made me chuckle - I'm sure that would impress my neighbours too!!
I picked up a really handy guide from a neighbouring Council last week called 'reduce, reuse, and recycle'. Loads of good info in there. They're much better with the recycle thing - you can put paper, cans plastic etc in one bag as they have a machine to sort it, and yes they do discounted compost bins. Oops, best stop waffling as I'm turning it into a thread on compost!!
Sorry all!
Time to put the little un to bed, and then I'll be back to read about the ducklings.... (my garden would be ideal for them as the lawn seems to think it's a pond:p )

You will all be estatic to know that DH has finished the foundations for the wall - he says he will finish it over the next few days (considering he took 3 days holiday to do it and then sat and watched football..... ). I have also been treated to a pizza (2-4-1 offer) as DH said I shouldn't cook on my last day's holiday. I think it's because he wants to keep me calm for my hospital apt tomorrow. A routine blood test for infertility has turned up an anomally in my brain levels (NO COMMENTS
) and I've been put on medication. If it's worked then the blood tests I had done last week will show a fall in the level of the anomally but if it hasn't it's an MR scan for me to see if I "have something which may be causing the problem in my brain" like what? shergar? lord lucan? anyway, it was really nice and we did kind of OS it as we had some garlic bread in the freezer.........
DH is now downstairs watching (more) football...... and I have a nice. cool shandy waiting for my downstairs - ta ta peeps. I hope it's a bit cooler tonight so we can all get some sleep..... I have to have my window open which means that the psychotic blackbird across the road sits on top of the street light singing (it can't be the same one that's always done it so it must be some sort of genetic mutant blackbird family from outer space). You'd think it'd need to sleep during the day but no.... perhaps I should give it some horlicks and a jigsaw..
Bye everyone! But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green0 -
hi all! not been around for a couple of days as i had to do a sleep-in at work and then had a lot to catch up on at home.
Had the weekend off :j managed to get lots done today - had a real blitz on the bedroom (Anthea turner would be proud of me! )

I placed my first "offer" on freecycle today - the TV. Within 4 minutes of it having been posted I had my first e-mail. I'm just waiting for a return e mail to say they can come and collect it.
I gave up on doing lots of housework today. I didn't get back from DS2's party till after 7 and the boys were so over-tired, it was a nightmare getting them to bed.
Went to mum's to water her plants and give it a hoover and mop, and couldn't trace the source of a strange smell. After an hour, I noticed those tell-tale brown marks on her bedroom ceiling where she's had a leakIt seems to have stopped for now, but I'll keep an eye on it till she gets home.
Anyway, I've just had a lovely shower and hair wash and am going to browse online for a bit then off to bed. I've put my back out again this evening (lifting DS2) so I'm hoping it's not too bad tomorrow. I really must see that masseuse mum recommended.....
Anyway, have a good night everyone.
