Morning Snowy, Stressed and PP!
PP - im glad you slept well!
Ive got to dash off to work today, but im only doing 9 till 12 so it could be worse! The sun is already burning my arm through the window and it looks like its going to be a lovely day! Ive got lots of laundry to do this weekend now that ive been given a new uniform, its all got that slightly chemically dusty smell that new unwashed fabric has.
I bought myself a treat off ebay last night, a small set of jewellery findings so that I can make myself some pretty jewellery, that should keep me entertained for a while! I found my sewing machine last night and had a little play, and I intend to get some fabric scraps after work so I can practice stitching, and then organise the nice fabric to be sewn together for the cushion covers.
Anyway - must dash as I need to take a shower and get ready, and see if I have time to put a wash on before I leave for work!

Sadly, catz, while that is her way, not every one with a disability has that attitude though.
It has never been a term of endearment and it is an offensive term, irrespective of whether it is a disabled person using it to refer to themself.
Problems arise when the word, in todays politically correct world, is used on a public forum. It only takes one person to be offended (and not necessarily a poster - many people simply lurk) and to take action against Martin for permitting the use of that term on his forum.
It easy to feel cosy on the forums and to lose sight of the fact that the forums are read by a great many people and from around the world! Not all people register as members and not all registered members post. Makes no difference how many people post and say *they* don't find it offensive. As I said above, historically, it has never been a term of endearmentNor does it make it so simply because the person using it happens to be disabled.

We are planning to go to the Garden show at woodgreen today.

Was up most of the night coughing i am so full of cold.
Anyhow hugs to all and catch you laters0 -
Morning you lot, morning everyone else to come
:hello:
Glad you had a better night PP - that and the fact the sun is shining should make you feel a bit better today
It's a glorious day again here :T Mr TM came home last night so I have a full washing basket again. (I also had to get used to the fact I woke up during the night cos he was snoring) Will try to get through it all and dry it today and add it to the 5 loads waiting to be ironed then I can iron it tonight when watching a film.
Hmm - need to have a good hunt round the garden for my mop too - got the hot soapy water ready....... no mop. Boys keep nicking it to play withand I've had a quick look but nothing. So, may have to buy a new one
While I'm at it I'll sort the cardboard recycling from the garage - it may well have found it's way under that mountain!
Ok - off to put WM on for first load, as well as BM which I forgot to put on overnight. Mind you, DS2 is still sleeping so maybe I'll drink my tea and wait for him to wake first - another 10 minutes to myself would be great
Have a great day.

Hi everyone
Oh dear - another very emotive subject.
My views, for what they are worth, are this. People can call themselves whatever they like. I found this very important when dealing with people from different races and cultures - when I was working, the powers that be decreed that anyone who was not "white" had to be described as "black". However, I found that if I always asked how people they wanted me to describe them, some didn't like "black" but wanted to be called "coloured" Yes - this opens up a huge minefield and overall I stuck to the main and "PC" guidelines, but on an individual basis - used whatever term they wanted. It takes time, thought and effort, yes - but it was my way of showing that I was listening and helping them and showing them I cared enough to remember.
Also, we must be aware that whilst it is not correct - politically or otherwise, for all of us to use certain words, in many cases people are reclaiming words once used by others about them in a negative sense, as a way of empowering themselves. I believe that some black people have reclaimed the word "ni99er" - but it is only for themselves to use ABOUT THEMSELVES. For me to use it would be racist and derogatory.
What I am trying to say, in a long winded kinda way, is that if PP wants to refer to herself as a crip, then that's for her to do. It's not a word I would use or even that I like, but so what. She is describing herself. Let's cut her some slack, ladies (and gents). PP has a hard enough time with daily living. I'm sure she would love to be fully healthy and able bodied - especially at her time of life. This is her way of dealing with, lets face it, the !!!!!! set of cards life has dealt her. Live and let live - she's not calling any of YOU crips.

Morning you earlier posters!
What a beautiful morning it is, hope it stays sunny all day. I'm about to put bedding in the wash and hang it on the line outside, first time in ages I've been able to do that. OH is currently in garden mowing the lawn, or should I say hacking down the forest, it has got so long due to all the rain!
What else to do today? I want to do at least 1 more load of washing, and will have a shower soon and will clean the bathroom after that.
Our courgette plan in the spare room is doing well, it has several big flowers on it, fingers crossed that a few will turn into mini courgettes. Never grown them before and its so exciting!
Later I want to go for a walk somewhere nice, by the sea or river. Maybe we will take a picnic with us...
Have a lovely day all,

No one who reads PP's post can be in any doubt that PP "has a hard enough time with daily living", nor were any comments personal, so I'm not quite sure what your post was trying to achieve, TM.Of course she is entitled to refer to herself how she chooses, in private.
PP was referring to the caravan that is designated for disabled people, on a public forum. Not *all* disabled people are "crippled" and not all "crippled" people would consider themselves disabled.
Many people may have a ".. hard enough time with daily living", of varying degree's and for any number of reasons, does that mean they have no right to feel offended by the word?~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
