I believe it is tied in and very much relevant specially going by the OP.

    ?? what does this mean?

Lets get this straight the OP was not making some highminded point for open debate, he was being ignorant and dismissive of the sacrifices that people make.

Am in a rush and will return to elabroate if this thread hasn't descended to insults as in the first page. It is such a shame that the site permitted such abuse to be hurled at the OP.

what insults on the first page?
Frankly the post made by the OP saying 'remember who?' is so horribly offensive to so many people that I'm not suprised people reacted to him the way that they did.

Like greenwich once posted the sooner we grow out of the dulce et decorum est mind-set, the tradition of finding soldiers as heroes, there would be some hope and chance for noble lives without wars.

The phrase, too romantic at the star of the First World War, was blown to pieces by Wilfred Owen's graphic description of death by chlorine gas, so I think there's plenty enough ambivalence built into it for us not be naively taken in.

It doesn't take much to work out that the Remembrance Ceremony is held to celebrate the END of the war and not the beginning.

A shame that those who note themselves as 'educated' can't see the wood for the trees.

I'm glad I came back to have a look at this thread and the fascistic replies within. Really, I feel the love guys, and there was never any danger of me not coming back. You can question my logic in coming back to a site that 'behind the scenes' supports soldiers and avoiding one that for a period of time has a poppy plastered at the top of the site as an overt symbol of supporting the war and those who fight it (Whatever propaganda is spewed to say that is not what it is about). I'm happy in my own mind, and frankly that is all that matters, and see no contradiction in returning.

Thank you all for your wonderful support.
  • Nothing to do with anything being "behind the scenes", the poppy banner was there for all to see in support of Remembrance Day, a day that everyone no matter their age or limited experience of life can remember those that have died in wars past and present.

    Lest we forget.
  • I think the OP came back to stoke the fire!
