When will the poppy be removed?

  • I concur completely.

This idiot (and TBH im not sure he/she is even that far advanced in life) should hang their head in shame.

It sickens me that people have the "sense" to post pointless, ill informed posts on internet forums such as this where people who have have recently lost a loved one in Irag/Afghanistan etc.

If you dont agree with any war - fair enough. However respect the fact that people have lost their lives fighting for the cause.

BTW - i have so much frustration with this idiot its untrue however im sure this is what the child wants!

Sorry what do you mean? what don't you get?
Let me explain, every November we remember the brave heroes who gave their lives for the freedom of others. No matter who they were or what country they served.
Of course we all have a choice we either support this or not full stop
It is after all supposed to be a country where we all have the right to make such decissions without stupid people who have hidden agendas taking a pop.
If anybody has racial hatred comments to make may I suggest they do so
to like minded people and not post vague comments.
Why make a big deal about a flower on a website heading if not to stir up trouble.

I feel saddened to read this kind of post on here....

I know it's freedom of speech on here but we only have that freedom because of what they fought for....

Whilst people may be disheartened with all that is going on, to give up on those that have fought and are fighting is nothing short of caullous and unfeeling....

We too often take for granted something which was fought for and life was lost for, it was given but was taken away and they fought to get it back and we enjoy now that which blood was spilt over...

Regardless of what goes on in the houses of power it is those on the ground that Poppies are for...People have forgotten that General Haig fought to get recognition for his soldiers and his legacy is the Poppy fund which he help set up. He may not be liked in some circles but once you look into his background I believe he did what he could with what he had which was limited equipment and limited machinery and limited personnel, something which rings true these days and despite any failings he had he helped to establish the Poppy Fund as a symbol that was is iconic and would not be lost in the realms of time....As they did then so should we wear our poppies and be proud....

    In Flanders Fields

    by John McCrae, May 1915

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
    In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields.

I wear my poppy with pride and gratitude for all those who fought and died so that I could live in a free country and practice free speech.

    The two
poppies on the web banner are particularly nice; thank you to whoever designed it.
Grant me the serenity to accept the people I cannot change, the courage to change the one I can and the wisdom to know it's me"

The more pertinent question is "how long will sick, idiotic, misguided, credulous, attention-seeking activists like you be tolerated on this website?"

The sheer stupidity of your OP makes me sick and depressed about society in general. :(

TBH - im a little bit shocked that Martin replied to this thread and didnt see fit to remove the content from the OP.

What value his (or indeed i guess our subsequent comments) add to a money saving expert im not sure. The only point of the OP's post was to flame ad annoy other users.
  • Fantasic, best news ever I believe the idiot who caused so much hurt and distress has been put in his place.
    Thank you.

maybe you should boycott this site for good if your feelings are so strong.

Your returning later stinks of hypocrisy at best and just selfish attention seeking.

Frankly, I'd rather lose your obnoxious and hate-filled racist threads about immigration, and have to put up with much rarer expressions of different or dissenting opinion such as the OP.

Your precious British Nazi Party represents things our forefathers fought against, but Nick Griffin's revisionist lies and hijacks of history are bound to take some gullible people in, such as his denial of the Holocaust and wish to assume control with well-directed boots and fists, and latterly his snivelling whines about having his own words quoted back to him.

edit: oh, and by the way, the people to whom you charmingly apply the phrase people with suspect sexual preferences etc. have also fought and died for their country and our freedoms, whereas the likes of BNP founder John Tyndall wanted to exterminate them.

Apologies to other people on the thread for lowering the tone :o

I'm trying to figure out the reasoning behind the op?
It's very strange, NASA must have known it would be very offensive to people here..........
    Was that the intention?

  • I think putting a white poppy next to the red one would strike a nice balance. :)

I'm not a 'poppy' supporter, but i fully respect other people's decisions and reasons for doing so. There were bona fide reasons for the world wars...the ones going on now, not so much. But, as previous posters have said, the blame for that lies at the politicians doorsteps, not the at the people's who have no choice as to where they're sent. Our armed forces should be for defence, not attack IMO.
