Lesson for today? Be nice to old people. They give you lots of money.

Man I'm getting shafted. I'm always nice to old people, but they never give me any money!

Well done with the good stuff!

What is it with old people today?? At least 5 of them have waved and said good evening to me this evening when I was walking the Hooligan (aka the dog)! Normally they all stare at melike I'm a total nut job when I walk past in the evening and smile and say good evening (IT'S A VILLAGE!) Maybe they took pity on me? hmmm
On the positive then one of the little old men goes ferretting and was mentioning that there might be some rabbits going free at some point... free meat is free meat!!!
Last night i listed about 9 items and theonly one with a bid is the one my OH wanted to throw out ont he grounds that "it was a horrible piece of tat that he never understood why he was given in the first place"...

As for the A class habit... I'd do exactly the same hun. "it was only the once" cuts NO ice with me, but then I lost an aunt to drugs many years ago and as far as I am concerned it is the ultimate evil...

Strange request of the day - bearing i mind I'm a yarn store - do I do bra measurings? Hmm. Didn't realise the decor of the shop reminded people of the knicker dept at M&S. Must correct that ASAP. Don't want the old women getting their kits off in the middle of the shop. Ewww. Old people naked...... (hope no-one's having their dinner whilst reading this - if so I apologise. Now get a cloth and wipe that up)

Guess you'd better rethink the indoor beach then hon!!!!!

Glad to see things going well, am sure the picture on the till is brightening your mood and making a difference to sales! I did market research years ago and found that in the winter, even if I was freezing, if gave off a 'warm open' vibe people were much more likely to stop! Didn't stop me being freezing though!!!!!

Glad to hear things are going well x
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

    I'm so proud of you!

Definitely agree - don't let the sh*t get his grubby paws on your lovely little one.

Well done in the shop and chipping away at that debt! You're doing so well!

Well chickees, it's gone a bit Pete Tong. My beautifully crafted budget, my carefully labelled jamjars - it's all gone tits up. I was all raring to go this week, knew how much cash I had to transfer to 'holding' account, how much cash to take out for shopping etc. And I blew it.

It's Games Workshop, you see, and their lovely range of paints. And the magazine this month had a fantastic article about painting your models in just the colours I was considering. So that's this week's utilities, rest of food budget and then some, on Space Wolves Grey paint, copy of White Dwarf and some cracking new models. To sort of justify it the shop I go to has a new manager, and he's insisting you can only play instore with painted models, so I do (sort of) need the stuff.

I am a baaaaaad lady. I think it was that fact that I've made over £250 this month on ebay, and none of it has gone on anything other than keeping head above water. You all know how tiresome it can get, and I think a mini-splurge every now and again does us good. Terrible you all think, she's gone loopy - quick, emergency copy of Money Diet, stat! But I spent £30 I hadn't budgeted for, but to be honest it's made me more determined than ever to get my finainces sorted, because then I wouldn't feel guilty about buying the odd mdel, or getting DD some cute little bits. Sounds a bit odd I know, but I really am ready to buckle down so that I don;t have to approach the cash machine with trepidation, wondering whether it's going to laugh at me. 'You want cash? You must be joking. And I think I'll keep your card for the bloomin' nerve of it.'

I am now considering selling my shop, and moving to Grimsby. There's new plans out for what they're going to do with the Market, and none of it looks good. Plus there's the attraction of it being mine for the start, and not having any debts, as that's what's dragging me down at the moment. The accounts look great if you were to walk in and be able to open credit accounts (as a buyer would) but because I'm paying out over £600 a month on debt, and having to also find money to buy in stock pro-forma to avoid building up any more debt. It's hard work, and I've never felt the shop is mine, as I'm still compared to the 'old people' all the time. I want bigger premises, and that ain't gonna happen in Scunny, just not any realistically priced units in good locations. So any advice re selling up and shifting on would be appreciated.

Got a sweet little message from Our Lord & Master, The Ultimate Money Nerd Himself, thanking me for the PM I sent (thanking him for helping me look The Cheeseball For Brains Ex in the eye and tell him we do more than fine without him). I wanted him to know that that was worth more to me than a few quid in the bank. And I think we should all be a little thanful that we've had our lightbulb moments. We are now able to learn to live without getting into debt, and then having to work all hours the gods send to pay off other people. Just imagine, if you carry on living as basically as you do now when you're Debt Free you may be able to reduce your working hours - take up a hobby, move to a better job without having to worry about a pay cut, spend time with the family etc. Think about it.

Well chickees, I'm off to get some more stuff on ebay - thanks to the Krud Monster and his rubbish I smashed my £200 target for June by £100, and and feeling much happier at not being greeted by some horrible zombie skull at 6am every morning. Plus the house is looking like a bombsite, thanks to the addictive qualities of MSE. Take care of yourselves, and have a very cheap day.

Oooh, and by the way, if you take a free trial subscription out for DVD rental with tescos, they offer you 3 months for the price of one. They're the cheapest anyways, so something to consider for those DVD rental tarts out there.
This year I'm getting organised once and for all, and going to buy a house with my wonderful other half. And that' s final!

  • Hi

As others have said before - I am one of the 'lurkers' rather than a poster - find it rather scary .... leaving messages into the ether. Anyway, i digress, I just wanted to say that I love your blog, it has made me laugh and cheered me up as I start this process of DFW.

    Keep up the excellent writings.....:T
