selling your stuff on Amazon - part 5

  • Whats the best deal with Viking?? Do they do a mixed box??

Yes, they do a mixed box but there are lots of small ones - it's on the website for you to weigh up the pros and cons - it depends really on what you want them for, if it's just for Amazon then it's a bit pricey.
  • I have a friend who has 50 odd educational non fiction books for sale(left over from university) they are all in excellent condition. I have been selling them for her at University but it's slow going. She says she hasn't the time to put them on e-bay or amazon. Now if I offer to buy them from her I would (based on amazon current prices) double what I pay for them once they are all sold. Do I go for it? I could still keep the list up at Uni and possibly get some sales there too?
It would mean putting the bill on a CC (0%)
What do I do?? What would you do??

There is just the chance that you may not get your money back before the 0% runs out so  .
Could you go another way and offer to sell them for her on Amazon and you take your expenses and a percentage off and give her the rest of the money?

I've just started selling on Amazon. I'm carefully checking item descriptions , but every so often I come across a book with the exact details, but the ISBN is different, and therefore I can't list it . This has happened about 5 times now, with books that were published pre 1980.
Can anybody explain to me why there are different ISBN numbers for books published by the same publisher in the same year.
Thanks to everyone who posts here. It's v. useful to an amazon virgin (never thought I'd call myself that)

 I hope someone else can help, I'm afraid that I don't know

Well I got my Viking Direct delivery and have to hope to sell books quickly to get space back! I ordered yesterday so am really impressed with the speed. BUT yesterday the offer was 3 boxes of Mail Lite and a free MP3 player - I don't have the MP3 player. Do they send these seperately or do I need to phone up (when my children give me some peace!)?

I did the 3 boxes and free mp3 player offer too - it also arrived today - it came in a seperate (huge) box at the same time, all address to me so you should have got yours too

i must say, its a cute little thing, as i cant afford or justify an ipod, it will do nicely

I have noticed this on occasions, but it does not stop me from listing the book. Firstly I would use the ISBN in the book and if the description fits then list there. Sometimes a publisher will re use an ISBN when he publishes in a later year, I would still list under that ISBN and state that it is an earlier edition, and the ISBN is correct, I would also add a comment if the cover is different. Most buyers do not check the ISBN, if the book looks right as far as they are concerned they have got what they are expecting. This could be different if someone is collecting a specific series but they would also be checking descriptions more carefully.

If the ISBN in your book comes up with something totally different I would use the advanced book search using the title and author. From the list that comes up it is easier to identify which one you should list under. You may well find that there are two versions for 1 publication year, I think this is more a problem with Amazon's database than anything else. You can often tell which would be the better one to list against by viewing the other 'used' copies and their descriptions.

If all else fails list your book under the one that you think is the best fit, but make sure you fully describe your book so that the buyer can see what they are getting. Then when you sell, include a copy of the book description so that they can see that it was fully described - this will not guarantee a happy customer but is more likely to fend off bad feedback. Also, customer services are more likely to remove bad feedback if they can see that you did not misrepresent your copy.

I would suggest that under no circumstances list a promotional book, it is against Amazon's T&C and they have been known to freeze accounts because of it.

I hope the above makes sense, if not let me know and I'll have another go. :)

Just found a signed copy of a 1974 children's book, but this time I've found the book by ISBN, but it's a different publisher. As there's only one unsigned for sale for £75, I'd love to get this one listed!!!
Has anybody else had this problem?

I'm happy to take a look for you if you want, either put the ISBN here or send me a PM (I'm new on here but have been on Amazon about 2 years).

Welcome funkyfunkymonkey although I am cursing you. I now have the 'hey Monkey' song from Boogie Babies on Cbeebies stuck in my head and its all your fault.

My sales have really dried up. Just sold a Mills and Boons book but after fees I only got £1.41. It shouldn't be much to post though as its tiny.

Thank you for the welcome. :hello:

Do you know how hard it is to sell a M&B book? :A

I've only sold 1 book today, with more than 4000 listed, so I would say it is just a slow day. There has been something funny with the SDN's too!

  • Hi funkymonkey (I've shortened your name, I'll take it as read that you are double funky) - you are really earning your place here...so I'm going to give you another question.

We have a bit of an unofficial rule of thumb that you can expect to sell I book per week for every 50 you have listed, you have 4000 so do you sell around 80 per week - how accurate is our estimate?
