Online grocery shopping help and discussion thread [merged]

Hello all! I've only ever done my grocery shopping online once before and that was years ago! Thought I'd do it again this week but I have a question! I keep getting emails from Tesco etc saying £10 off my first order over £50, buttt... My question is, saying I spend £55 but a few of my items are out of stock and brings it down to £49, will I end up paying £59 because my order is under £50 and therefore the voucher isn't valid?
Also, who does everyone use and find the best? I buy a lot of fruit and I'm worried about BB dates... do they always pick stuff with short sell by dates?! Do you often find that they're out of stock or don't sell your items?! Any other tips for success?!?!?

I buy my shopping online every week either from Asda or Tesco depending on special offers on items I need, also the availability of free delivery codes or extra Tesco clubcard points etc.
Generally I have not had a problem with buying fruit and vegetables online. On one or two occasions the fruit I bought was squashed but the delivery man refunded the money. Once I was even refunded for a whole bag of shopping because a yoghurt burst over them, I just rinsed the stuff under the tap and everything was good as new! If any items have a short expiry date then your delivery man will point this out to you and give you the option of rejecting the item and getting a refund.

I always spend at least £60 per week so i wouldn't know whether the £10 voucher is invalidated from your shopping only costing £49 etc.
Regarding items being out of stock, this rarely happens to me and at the most it might be 2 items that are missing. However, the supermarkets will swap the item you ordered for a similar product eg Tesco Value digestives swapped for normal Tesco digestives if the item you ordered is unavailable. You also do not pay any extra eg you only pay 40p for the digestives even though you get a better type.

For those that use Asda for shopping online... I rarely have any problems with them but does anyone know if there is a certain day where the prices change/ For example you may make an order that comes to £49 but end up paying £51 because something like the Tea Bags 'rolledback' to £2 had gone abck up to $4 by the time your order comes.

I wouldn't have ordered them if they said the price was going back up the day of my delivery. This didn't actually happen, just an example. Although it has happened on a smaller scale once or twice!

I placed an order for groceries to be home delivered last Monday. Due to unforseen circumstances I didnt make it back in time for the delivery. My bank is still showing a difference between my balance and available balance all this week for the amount of the groceries...The order on my Asda site is showing as cancelled - when will they release the funds as I need this money to live on or place a new order if they will let me...obviously I do not need all the groceries I previously did and fully uderstand if they wish to charge me a fee for heir trouble but I need this money in my acct to live on - its a big chunk of my maintenance money from my ex and as I dont work and am a single mum of 2, I need this money to live on, and have used my electric money to pay for groceries in the interim so now need the money to buy electric and pay kids nursery snacks etc!! I did email them yesterday when I realised I had no funds available in my acct (I suffer from stress\depression and hate phoning due to this as I have problems concentrating and can get panicky which frustrates the hell out of me and makes phone calls a big no, no)...I know this is my fault and not theirs but surely they cannot keep my money tied up indefinately?!

Asda money is usually back into my bank after 3 or 4 days on the rare occasion that something is wrong on my delivery and I phoned them for a refund.

Also just so you know, emailing them is totally pointless, you need to call them. 0844 8733333

recently they took the money twice from my bank for the same delivery
asda refunded but the bank took 5 days to show the money
phoning asda & the bank, it was the banks fault not asda

As others have said, it's the time the bank takes that accounts for the delay.

Re: 'phoning - prepare yourself, have a script of things you need to say, have all the details available e.g. order no's, dates & values etc., to anticipate any questions. And don't have any distractions e.g. TV on.

Re: Stress/depression - have you tried Bach Rescue or Kalms? When you do try the 'Rescue' (and yes I'm afraid its not cheap), you'll wonder why you are smiling!
I used it to help with 'interview nerves'.

usually they refund your money on the day and it will leave them then and there, but its the banks that delay the transfer back and can take upto 14 working days on occasions
