Ah your maths nearly caught me out there.... for anyone elswe who is going to comment she is right:
10x bagels + 11th free bagel
105 discount means you only pay the equivalent price of 9 bagels.
Just thought I'd clear that up, for my own sanity if no one elses. The size of a glory hole in an open pit should not be greater than the cross-section of the haul trucks that dump into it. Otherwise, you are bound to lose a truck, sooner or later. Source: Sergio Cha

Most places do student discount if you ask for it but don't advertise. At the minute, Miss Selfridge are doing 20% off for students and I know a lot of shops do this for about a month at a time. Also, most places say you need to show an NUS card, but a college or university student card always works just as well in most shops, cinemas and restaurants.
I'm doing an MA alongside my full time job, and live 2 hours away from the campus but am doing it through distance learning. I have the uni student card (Anglia Ruskin) but not an NUS card. Have looked on the NUS website and they say they will only send your card to your union not your house. So, will I still be able to get offers and discounts just by showing this card? What are people's experiences of this? Thanks in advance.0 -

I am a distance learner with Liverpool John Moores uni and I was able to get an NUS card. Once you have the card there shouldn't be any problem with you using it, unless a place demands to see a uni ID as well as NUS, but LJMU offers distance learners ID cards so I'd imagine you could get one too if you don't have one already. I haven't come across anyone asking to see both, though.
To get an NUS card, though - I contacted the administrator for our course and she said she'd get my card from the union once it arrived there. She was kind enough to coordinate this with the union for me and she then posted me the card. All I had to do was apply online for the card in the normal way. Hopefully the corresponding person for your programme/department will be as helpful and you can get one too.0 -

You can get a card from Somerfields that you show when you pay for your groceries along with a valid nus card and you get 5% off. Not that much but it makes a difference to your change :j
I asked for a discount in somerfield the other day, and they said I needed a specail discount card (other than my NUS card) which they aparently had given out in freshers week. I never received one tho and they said there was not a way which i could apply for a discount card now. This seems a bit unfair doesnt it?No More Buying Books: read 0/25; Bought: 0

Also ask if your college or uni is a member of the Microsoft MSDN Academic Software Alliance. Mine is and I got a log in from my ICT department to a microsoft website where I can download Microsoft operating systems including Windows XP and Vista, Server 2003/2008, fully legal and licensed - for free!!!
Also if you bank with HSBC, log into online banking and find a link for a year's free subscription to McAfee VirusScan Plus. Get a 'bare bones' PC with no operating system or software and you can get it all free with the above!
