Can anyone please tell me where there is a complete list of places that offer discounts for nus cards? The nus extra site only seems to have a few compared to what I have seen mentioned on here. There must be a proper list somewhere? I don't know where I can use mine and where I can't and I don't want to ask everywhere, cos I'm 35 and will feel embarrassed :-(

lol. But is there not a list?
  • Hi

You can some pretty good discounts on magazines and newspapers in most student unions and you don't actually have to be a student to take advantage.

The Guardian is 30p and mags like The Economist are £1 off.
  • Does the Burger king 20% off work in every place then?

Just thought I'd add that if you've got a Somerfield near you they give you 5% off yer groceries inc alcohol:beer: . You've got to show them your student card and they give you a somerfield discount card. 5% off all yer groceries throughout your student life is a pretty big saving.

    Happy shopping:T

not all somerfields though. as far as i know, the somerfield that i work in doesnt give student discounts.

Somerfield are probably more than 5% more expensive than other Supermarkets anyway so your not really saving anything.
  • Hey,

not sure if this has been posted already as I did not look through the entire thread, but HMV offer student discount ONLINE via their website. You can do it by obtaining a 'hmv student card' from a hmv store, then you simply quote the card number when buying online. To top it off you get free delivery for most goods as well
  • I started a part-time (2 hours in 1 night a week) course in my local college this year. I paid my £10 in the college's Student Union, they took my photo via webcam, I filled in the application form on line on their computer and voila 7 days later my NUS card arrived.

I ask in absolutely every shop I go into (I'm 41 - you've nothing to lose by asking) and go on to the nusextra website and also, recently discovered, www.s-k-i-n-t.co.uk website. Obviously I'll never get a student railcard but so far I've got a discount in Blacks, Millets, Subway, McDonalds, UGC, New Theatre in Cardiff, Amazon online, and a shop I can remember the name of in Cardiff Capitol centre that sells fabulous North Face jackets.

My best saving to-date was online - I purchased Adobe Photoshop CS Extended Student Edition for £155 - the normal price is about £700. The Student Edition is no different to your usual version just you can't use it for commercial purposes. Works a treat.

It's amazing how many shops might have a little sticker on the door or in the window but there's nothing by the till, so ask, ask, ask, you can only gain in the long run. :j :j :j
  • This isnt a particular discount but I really recommend Sainsburys Basics for a cash strapped student. Contrary to popular belief, this stuff is still good quality and brilliant value for money. At the start of the year, everytime I'd pass sainsburys, I'd end up spending a tenner. But now, Ive started looking for bargains such as Sainsburys Basics squash for 19p! and its great stuff!. I guess there are other alternatives like Tesco and Morrisons etc but if you're in Sainsburys, look out for the BASICS!
