its only for northern england and scotland but look it up its this massive booklet jam packed with stuff for the city your living in.... honestly i had it last year and it paid for itself @ least 10 times over, especially if your in a big house with lots of other people and you use almost every voucher.
this isn't just for students... big families can benifit too!0 -
www.studentbeans.com
this website has sooo many deals, some specific to certain university towns, others national, but you can access them no matter where you live.
The deals range from free entry to clubs:j , free shots:beer: , BOGOF meals (inc. dominos pizza) and cinema tickets (Odeon, AMC and Cineworld, so penty to choose from), Loads of extra discounts from online retailers, discounts ranging from 5% to 50% on loads of stuff, including food at major chains and other local venues, free gym trials and up to 50% of hair cuts! And theres so much more.
Its free to register, all you need to do is print off a voucher, or note down a code and you get the discount.
Also, the deals are constantly being updated, so you can get entry to alton towers for £20 as long as you book before the end of june (an example of the offer run this year) so its worth checking out pretty frequently.0 -
dominos pizza and matalan are new companies on the NUS card for the 07/08 academic year.
dominos has sometimes offered discount in the past, depending on which staff member serves you, but it's clearly on the NUS website this year. 25% off when you spend £20 or more.
matalan is 10% off all purchases.0 -
Not sure if this is the right thread, but here goes anyway...Went to Tampopo Restaurant in Manchester last night and used a studentbeenz voucher I had downloaded, after I'd read about the site on these forums.
We shared a starter and a pud, had two mains plus a bowl of rice, and a glassof wine each. Total spend including 10% service charge came to £18.60. Fantastic value for money.0 -

For students in London...
I have been a student for two years at the University of the Arts and have the found out about the following stuff since starting my degree:
MAGAZINES / DAYS OUT
I have seen Time Out subscriptions on offer for 75% off for students which is amazing value. If you share this with all the people you live with it makes it very cheap to find out whats on in London and stuff thats happening for free. Currently they are doing 8 issues free if you pay for one, which is available to all.
Time Out also has offers like the free Wagamamas one previously mentioned every summer.
Don't spend money on magazines in shops. You can get Elle and Glamour for £1 an issue subscription at certain times of the year. The usually try to tie you in by setting up a direct debit for the subscription to continue in a years time, cancel it before they get the chance to charge you the full price!
Try to pool magazines with other people in your house/ uni halls.
This website also does discounts for Vogue and other magazines.

If you plan to go out to a night club, its always worth phoning ahead if there is a big group of you to arrange a guest list or reduced price entry if you can guarantee there will be a certain number of you through the door. Many clubs are willing to oblige.
TRAVEL
As soon as you start uni get a student Oyster card, it's only a fiver and gets you 1/3 off travel cards (bus passes or underground) for a year. It does not however, give discount on Oyster pre-pay.
It costs me £37.90 to travel anywhere in London by bus. I think its better doing it by bus as you learn where everything is. I use a really good London bus map www.quickmap.com which really is invaluable when travelling around London and does not fall apart like the thin tube maps.
Natwest do a free five year student railcard with their student account, however I would not reccommend them for service. I now have just a current account with some one else with a minimum over draft (£50).
HOUSING
Try not to go through estate agents (especially Foxtons as my friends have been burnt by nasty high finders fees etc!). Gumtree, student housing websites (most unis have their own) mean you can avoid scary estate agents stalking your mobile and email with new places to rent!
CINEMA
Prince of Wales cinema just off Leicester Square is cheap for seeing films that are a couple of months old. Also good for classics.
Get an orange mobile to get 2 for 1 cinema tickets to most other cinemas. Cinemas should usually give 2 for 1 on the student price which means its around £2.25 a ticket or around £6 Leicester Square Odeon and Vue. Only on a Wednesday though!
PART TIME WORK
If you are thinking of getting a part time job, try not to go for a job that is advertised, as usually that means a high turnover of staff. Restaurant work can be well paid in tips however I have found it can be demoralising and tiring:(
Reception work can be good. Try to work for a company that you might be intrested in as a future career,eg- a runner for a film company if you are studying film, as at the very least it will build up your contacts and experience as well as bank balance!
Like someone previously mentioned, work for a company that you enjoy the product of and get a good discount (eg- Topshop workers receive 75% off an outfit for work every couple of months)
Do regular clear outs of unwanted stuff and sell it on ebay/ gumtree. Always post second class and wrap in brown paper to save money on bubble envelopes. Ebay reccommends second class post on its website!
Market research is also a great way to make money whilst at uni, £50/ 90mins but is only sporadic.
Finally, like other people have mentioned, ask anywhere you go if they do a concessions rate or discount. I do not have a £10 nus extra card as you would have to spend over £100 to make the card a worthwhile purchase which is a bit cheeky considering it used to be free.
Keep your enrolement slip in your wallet as 'proof' you are enroled for the academic year along with your uni photo id. This works 9 times out of 10.
I know some of these tips aren't exclusively for students but I hope this helps!0 -
Every one of your posts promoting same siteChristina_Mills wrote: »For movies I can recommend Cineworld £10.99 for a month. Good if you are dating in uni.
Also - for mobiles I recommend :spam:
They compare the latest internet mobile phone deals. I got myself a w580i for FREE and FREE line rental. Bargain I say0 -
I am a grown-up student, and have saved masses with a student discount at Gamestation--- buying games for my kids.... and me!
10% off but doesn't work on combo deals (like 2 for £20), they give you whatever one deal is cheapest :rotfl:0
