So far for my birthplan I have;
Stay at home as long a I possibly can, (secretly hoping that it will be to late to move me), lots of breathing and having long baths to help cope.
Once, (if I go) at hospital asking for as little intervention as possible, just gas and air for pain relief, being as active as possible to help things along. I hate lying on my back anyway and it actually hurts due to some scar tissue so I want to squat or be on all fours for the actual birth.
I'd like a natural 3rd stage, and want to feed straight away while having skin to skin contact with baby. And then if im not already at home I want to go home as soon as possible, spending a night in hospital is my second worst nightmare.
Have I skipped anything important?
Also I realise this can all change in a second should the baby be distressed but it atempting to think positive.

I wanted a homebirth with DD but it wasn't to be, I was transferred when contractions were 1 min apart due to high blood pressure (long story but due to MW !!!! ups I could have stayed at home she just wanted to sneak off for a sleep as she informed us as soon as I went into hospital.)
Anyways I found it very hard being in such a medicalised environment. I'm the type of person that won't even take a paracetamol normally, and always opt for natural or homeopathic remedies where poss, however (getting to the good bit lol!!) the biggest piece of advice I can give you is to either speak up, or get DH to speak up, and if you feel crowded just say "I'd like to be left alone please" Also if a MW isn't supporting or helping you (ie making your labour harder) ask for a new midwife to attend you. This is your labour not theirs, and they may have a set way that they do things, but that does not effect your decisions.
I was in labour for 26 hours, and so saw a lot of midwives. 1 was a b****, 1 made the mistake re blood pressure to get to me to go in to hospital, but the other 4 were lovely! In hind sight I wished I had thought about the fact that I could have just said, "get someone else in here please, I don't like the way your treating me" But I went silent in labour and couldn't talk. Maybe you could have a 'sign' to your DH that means that you are feeling crowded and would like to be left alone?
Sorry if what I have written seems really negative, I don't mean it to be, and I'm def not trying to scare you. I know you will be fine, as we all are- we cope because we have to! I just wanted to highlight something that I literally did not even think off (that I can ask for a new MW) as I had done so much planning etc!Think positive- you will be fine, honestly- we were built to have babies.

You probably know already fishcake that the austrailians are way ahead of us brits medically for preg and birth - i found these sites really helpful: http://www.bellybelly.com.au/articles/birth
http://www.birth.com.au/Labour-and-Birth.aspx
(please bear in mind medical terms and procedures vary from the brit version)
also aless's link to spinning babies is great: http://spinningbabies.simplwebsite.com/
HTH
As i am feeling a bit better today i am off to do some cleaning - shh dont tell the midwife:cool:0 -
Nikkit- I think it is an awful place (especially after seeing some other hospitals) however like you say there is no way I will be travelling to Northampton or Bedford so if I need to transfer to hospital I will also be headed back to MK. I do wish they would make it a priority to up their standards though, as some of the other departments came up very high in the study, it was just maternity that was right at the bottom! Actually I would love to see a new midwife led unit in MK to give us an even better choice (our nearest is Bicester I believe.)
Bottom line is the hospital was built to serve 6,000 and it now serves more than 60,000. MK is such a big development they need to put the infrastructure down, they are getting there with the schools finally but need a bigger/ new hospital. No funds though I guess, there is plenty of funds to build houses that sit there empty as no-one can afford to buy them, but not for a well needed hospital.0 -

I had my mum there as well as DH too! They were both great, and I want them both there again this time. My DH surprised me, I thought he would be good, but he was great!! He just seemed to know what I wanted and kept reminding me of things like having a drink etc that I would have forgotten, most of the time though he was just quiet and held my hand/ rubbed my back/ walked with me up and down the halls!
My mum was great, she gave me so much support and when I was getting tired she kept me going.
Good luck (not that you will need luck) and if you ever want to ask me anything PM me. xxx0
