Rach - if you have space for it i'd say they are fab. With DD we were in a flat, the room was big enough and i just had one of those M/care basic ones with shelves - it just meant all of her nappies/toiletries/cleaning stuff etc etc were all stored nicely in one place.
This time we have a slim 3 storey house so i won't be bothering...i'll just have a change mat tucked away in our bedroom that'll go on the bed for changes (we have no real wall space so little choice) and a spare change mat behing the sofa downstairs for changes on the floor. I will miss it all being in one place, but i cannot imagine trapsing up and down the stairs for each change.
Arrrghhhh - just seen Gill's post - yep you do have to be extremely careful, once they get wriggly you have to find something to occupy them. I used to give DD a spare nappy or something to hold while i changed her - or she'd be trying to make an escape too. That'd scare me, bless her.
DD once flung herself backwards out of my arms while i was carrying her and i couldn't catch her in time, she fell straight on the laminate floor. She cried for all of 30seconds and then was fine but i bawled my eyes out for ages as i felt like such a bad mum, lol! Stuff like this does happen unfortunately, you just have to be very vigilent....thankfully hubby was home and is very practical about these things and he had to calm me and make me realise she wasn't hurt and she only cried for the shock of it, lol - i still cried like a babyIf he'd have dropped her i don't know if i could have been so nice about it, lol

Hello
I've been a bit AWOL/lurking... can't remember if I've missed any babies arriving?:o
Stay put vibes for early escaping beans;)
3 weeks until my 20 week scan... as you know I haven't had the greatest of times so will be over the moon to HOPEFULLY finally see Bean:j We want to know the flavour but expecting Bean to cross his legs!!:rotfl:
Good luck to those who have their scans soon:)
It's my little baby DS's bday today.... 14 years old!!!!:eek::eek::eek: How did that happen???:o:rotfl:BLOWINGBUBBLES:kisses2: SMARTIE120 -
completely different subject - what do you experienced mums think about changing tables? I remember a friend having one and finding it useful. Our flat is all on one level so if we had one if would be in the baby's room and we'd not have to use any stairs to get to it.
I didn't find any need for them as I just changed DD on my knee, and couldn't be bothered to have to go to one room whenever she needed changing. I would just change her wherever we happened to be, but other people love them and couldn't be without them. Personally, for me they fell into the 'could easily live without' category and hence would have been a waste of money.
Just to say if you can get on with changing bubs on your knee it is brilliant, as you get used to them getting bigger all the time, and when they hit the wriggly, try to crawl away stage you have them trapped and they can't get anywhere
ETA: I had a small wicker basket with all changing stuff in our bedroom and one in the living room. We used washable nappies and so I would make them up into a whole nappy after they had dried and split them between the 2 baskets. Meant we had everything to hand whichever room we were in.0 -
Hi and welcome to the newbies
And a stern talking to for MGEB and Mermaid's babies - stay put, it's not time for you to come out yet!
hurry up vibes for baby jopsey too.
On the subject of changing tables, we have one, actually, we're going to have 2 though to be honest, they're mainly for storage. We've got one that's a cabinet style with a board on top in baby's room. It's jammed in a corner (tiny room) so if he rolls, he'll either end up on the other side of the table (and further than that, the windowsill) and the other way, he'll have the sprung mattress of the cot-bed.
The other table will be in the living room and it's one of the shelf type ones. I'm mainly using that one because 1. it's a family one and 2. it can be used for storing the odd bits of baby stuff that take over the house, toys, spare changing stuff etc.
As for me, I'm 29 weeks tomorrow and having had a few days off from work, I'm exhausted! It's let me get as much sleep as I've wanted which has been a bonus, but on the downside, I didn't realise quite how much sleep my body wants just now and I slept until almost 11am this morning which I haven't done in a longlonglong time. I'm really starting to wonder whether I'm doing the right thing by working up to 37 weeks.
On the plus side, I'm officially only working 4 days a week now and my antenatal classes kick in in a couple of weeks which means I'll have another half day a week not in the office.
Oh, and I have my 28 week check on Thursday - any ideas what to expect? Just the same as 17 and 22 weeks?0 -

One hour old!
First photo with mum!
With big brother Daniel and big sister Sariah.
With Dad.
thanks for all the support and messages from you all over the last few weeks. I'm working on writing the birth story - piecing together bits from my memory and from DH as to how it all happened. Still a bit emotional from the whole thing so will take a few days, i'll let you know when the story is posted.
Someone mentioned changing tables a few posts back... up till last week i would have agreed that they were a waste of time/space/money and with the first two i changed them on knees/bed/floor/wherever. However, someone gave us one second hand a few weeks ago... best thing ever as i can stand up straight while changing him, not worry about stitches or straining myself. It just stays in the living room but as we are in a flat its not far from whichever room we are using at the time. HTH- just another opinion.

Gorgeous pics maureen! You look amazing for just having had a baby!
Interesting point about changing tables and stitches, my friends who say they have been invaluable have had sections so I imagine it would be much, much easier in that case.
It's so hard isn't it, deciding what you need as 1 persons treasure is another persons tat! I bought minimal stuff, thinking that in the event of needing it I could order it online once baby was here iyswim. Meant I never bothered with most stuff.0 -
Pigpen yes we are going to ask the flavour more from a practicality point of view i'm in a 3 bedroom house and already have 2 boys and 1 girl if its a girl great she will be able to share with her sister if its a boy i think we are going to need a rearrange and id rather get it out of the way sooner rather than later. I am feeling a little naughty though and may keep the information to myself and the OH and keep everyone else guessing or would that be cruel ? lol :-)
Table top changers: I've never had one never liked them for safety reasons when i had my first she was a proper little wriggler even from birth and used to push her bum up in the air and make her body jump so ive always felt it safer to change them on the floor. I probably go abit over the top though as i dont like moses baskets either since the handle snapped on my DD's and i nearly dropped her luckily i had my arm underneath and was able to squeeze her into me before she went down. Talk about your heart stopping!!!!:jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0 -
OK i am officially Jealous how on earth do all you ladies look so good after giving birth??? I always look awfull with my hair clinging to my face from all the sweat and big beetroot cheeks:eek:
Maureen the pics are gorgeous what a lovely little family :-) x:jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0 -
Congrats Maureen! Hope you and baby are well - and wishing you an easy and speedy recovery!
Rach - i wasn't bothered about getting a changing table at all, but realised we needed more storage space so i put a wanted notice on netmums along the lines of: changing table wanted - £20 max - will collect. I had several responses, and picked up a lovely solid Mamas and paps one for £20 the next day. And given that i might now need a caesarean (depending on today's scan - in half an hour!!!) it might turn out to be one of the most useful things i've bought! So, i guess what i'm saying is, it's definitely worth putting a request on netmums as you may get a bargain.
Off to hospital now to see if baby is still in breech. Wish me luck!

Lovely photos maureen, hope you are feeling better from your experience.
Hope you feel better mgeb and stay put vibes for bubs.
Labour vibes for jopsey, hope things get moving soon.
You have been talking 20 week scan, is so not fair that they don't do the scans until 22 weeks here. So I guess some of you behind me on the list will have yours before me. Anyway only 6 weeks to go :j:j
Hope everyone enjoys the rest of your easter breakThomas born 28/08/2010 weighing 5lbs and 4ounces, small but perfectly formed :j:j Now weighs 19lbs and 5 ounces
