kindofagilr wrote: »I didnt, I had no other symptoms apart from high BP, then when I was at MW we released I had swollen ankles and then we realised I had had bad headaches (didnt know they meant anything)
Anyhoo each to their own
I find the MWs appointments reassuring,
YAY Nikkit congrats
So you did have other symptoms just didn't know at the time..while I understand that you may have had some fairly terrible experiences with medical professionals which means you don't trust them anymore, and respect your right to refuse antenatal care, sweeping statements such as this may be a little inaccurate and misleading to others.
I've had high blood pressure for a few years now (regularly monitored) and zero symptoms at all. In fact, I've had more funny symptoms, headaches, dizziness on moving, sparkles when my BP changes from sitting to standing, etc, etc since my blood pressure dropped fairly significantly to a healthy level when I fell pregnant.
Just a warning to those considering self diagnosis, there are always anomalies.
It isn't about self diagnosis it is about knowing your own body and how it works and I know when something is amiss with mine and also when it isn't. I was replying to a direct question so it was relevant.. I did not say everyone could be as obnoxious and stroppy and difficult as I am.. only special people get to be this adverse.. I don't feel the need to question why people DO go to all the appointments.. I just assume it is because they feel the need and I explained why I don't... though in truth 99% of medicalpersonnel I have come across have been morons..

Go Pigpen!! With the first two of mine i had no clue about consent and saying no to the midwife, i just assumed you had to go with what they said and leave your own opinions at home - to the point that after dd i was getting clexane injections for their percieved risk of blood clotting to me! Since doing my nursing training and seeing more within hospitals etc I am totally going to stand my ground and as far as possible have things done MY way, not theirs just for their convenience!

I think most people are the same with their first few.. but when you get to number 4 and beyond and you realise the staff actually know less than you do and you are telling them stuff it gets so much easier to refuse stuff and say 'well actually I think you are talking crap' and 'Do I look like I am 3? No? So why are you speaking to me as though I am!?'
And DARING to question their authority.. God forbid!! lol..
Anyway.. my back is crippling think I may be needing the trip to obstetric physio for the tubigrip alternative (I have latex allergy and tubigrip sets me off itching)LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
EA - the weather is carp atm, hope you managed to get out for some throat sweets. I love my shower, it really helps with the aches and pains, inc miagriane. I love a good bath but ours is just too tiny
I love how desperate you are to evict Lily, am being so lazy at this stage!
pigpen - wow you really hate the NHS, but then I suppose on no.9 you would know!
Nikkit - big congrats hun, cant wait to see a pic of baby Thomas. Sounds like a good size too, well doneWow going home so fast too, take care and rest up as much as poss x
Mo - yeay for extra scan, wish I could have one and get a better idea of bubs size! Eeek at 7 lb already but am sure you'll be fine x
redstar - 30 at 32 weeks doesnt sound too bad, they allow 2 cm either side of gestation and theres always a bit of human error in measurement there. At 36 weeks I measured 38 and at 38 I measured 38!!
choccie - that sounds awful the way you describe MK hospital, at ours its a min 6 hour turnaround as pead doc wont check bubs till 6 hours, then it just depends what time of day it is, they dont like letting you out at unsocial hours! Well thats what 2 diff MWs have sold us at antenatal.
courgette - big hugs hun, am not a teacher but do run a youth group 2 nights a week ages 12 to 18 and know how much of a nightmare that age group can be, so you have lots of sympathy from me. Just remember it was only a dream x
gill - yeay for getting the cot sorted, told you it wouldnt be an issueDouble yeay for HIPG
Well got my KFC Mmmm Big Daddy box meal yummyAlso watched Tropic Thunder with OH, well did till he fell asleep!! No more signs so far other than continued heavyness and discomfort, and the very occasional cramp. Washed a load of 0-3 baby clothes so am gonna try the ironing sitting down tomorrow (have another load and 1/2 of 0-3 to go eek!) if its not doable then Ill send them to MIL she's desperate to help (I did all the New Born my self) and have a nosey at what we have hehe.

Edinburgh. You'd have thought I'd have found what I was looking for by now with all the shops!
OOh I'm a bit further up north, past the highlands in Morayshire. Bloomin nasty weather here, getting fed up of the snow now.
I am 33 weeks today, got 5 weeks 5 days until baby makes an appearance!

.....
Well got my KFC Mmmm Big Daddy box meal yummy.
The radiographer person (?!) said that likely it'll put on about half a pound a week from now on so if i make to 40 weeks then shouldn't be much more than 7lb6ish! thats round about the same as first two so shouldn't be too bad!
Also, DH coming home from town with some KFC for me!!! yum!!:)
I really dont need to eat.... will suffer with the heartburn but will so be worth it!!

LOL... no the NHS is fabulous.. I hate the doctors who think they are Gods and I hate the attitudes of the staff..esp. receptionists lol.. I hate the fact they carry on like they are doing you a favour when in fact they chose that profession and get paid way over the odds for the service they provide... yet still complain!!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
