I gave up bothering with birth plans.. noone ever read them anyway.

Same here. First time round I put lots of thought into exactly what I did and didn't want and wrote it all neatly as bullet points in my notes. I put a lot of emphasis on not wanting to be cut - guess who got cut! The second time I just scribbled a couple of things down on a piece of paper but nobody read it. This time I've told hubby not to let them give me pethidine as it made me really ill but other than that I just want bub out of me safely.

    Hi,,

From the delivery suite . Baby thomas andrew john was born at 5:10pm; weighing 7lb 9oz xx

Going home at 9pm will update more tomorrow xx

    Awww congrats.
Had another scan today - the mw was concerned the baby would be huge but consultant said no issues and that i could cancel the scan if i wanted to... figured i'd go anyway and hope for a glimpse so i'd know what we're having (they dont tell you at my hosp!). Turns out baby's fine size wise but on the 95th percentile - 7lb3 already with 5 weeks to go!!! gearing up to be bigger than my first two... Argh! Looks like i wont be needing the newborn stuff for long, if at all!

DD2 went straight into 0-3 months at birth and was in 3-6 months at 6 weeks so I've not bothered with any newborn stuff this time. If he stuns everyone by being under 10lb I'll just have to roll his sleeves up I guess LOL!
    We Haven't had one of these for a while. Who've I missed and who's dropped that i haven't seen...mumslave - 20th February 2010 :male:

Mumslave has a congrats thread in the arms though I can't remember which day she had him without going to check. :)

  • Oh well. Baby still not here. We went for a long walk with the dogs this morning but nothing happening I'm afraid. Am trying to now get myself washed and dressed but am so tired. Maybe another half an hour and then we're off to the shops!
    :love:Baby Bump born 4th March 2010! :kisses:
  • Are people washing brand new baby clohtes? I am scared they will bobble straight away and ruin before bean has had a chance to wear them

yup I've got a load on the clothes horse just now, no fabric softener (apparently it can be irritating to baby skin) and washed in Fairy at 40 degrees and no bobbling so far.

I washed them to get the new "crispiness" off them so that they're softer and to get any yucky chemicals and stuff off them as you have no idea how many people's grubby paws they've been through before getting to the shop - let alone any dust and bugs from a shop's store room and people browsing them. Then again, I also wash my own new clothes for this reason.

redstar- try not to worry as the midwives in my area don't even bother measuring as it has been proven to be fairly innaccurate. For example with DD I got a bump really early (about 7 weeks) then didn't seem to grow very much at all until the third trimester when I got absolutely huge, other people tend to grow more steadily, and others grow in spurts etc. All mum's and babies are different so they will just be sending you for a scan as a precaution, I'm sure once you get back all will be fine.

re birth plans- I had a birth plan with DD, it didn't include much for the actual labour as I wanted to see how things went, however it had quite a bit for after the birth ie skin to skin, straight to breast, leave cord pulsating, natural delivery of placenta etc. All of this bar skin to skin was ignored, and I didn't notice until too late that they had stuck me with a needle and cut the cord! Grrr! For the labour I also asked not to be asked about pain relief as I knew what was on offer and would ask if I felt I needed it- sure enough the horrible midwife kept constantly asking me "Do you want an injection now?" I was cross with her but luckily for her I couldn't really speak during labour just went silent. This time I am writing an essay for DH and Mum so they can make my decisions for me kind of a contingency plan - if x happens I would prefer y, if y happens I would prefer x, kind of thing but I'm not going to bother letting midwife see it, as I felt the other one tried her hardest to go against it, I wouldn't of minded if there was a reason and it was explained to me, I'm not naive enough to think you can actually plan exactly how it is going to go.

I'm sat here bouncing on my ball and it is really helping my hip pain- this is my new chair for the next 16 weeks :D

I remember the no softner debate from last discussion of washing clothes

I use asda own fabric softner but its for babies? so surely that means I can use it lol
