MSE Parents Club Part 8

Thanks MM. It's good to hear both sides of the story and a mix of opinions so people can make more informed decisions. I can see the positives and negatives in both. For me, I don't think there is much of a decision as it appears to be really difficult here to find a nursery that takes babies. However, I haven't met any childminders yet so I just hope they are as agreeable as MFD and Mookie's appear to be. They sound ideal, but I have read other threads on MSE where the CMs don't appear to be as "in tune" with the parents. Whilst I would probably start with a CM, I would definitely move onto a nursery in a couple of years when Holly is entitled to her free place for X hours per week as I would like her to mix.0

Got to do it once the "right" way according to the packet, then adapt it to how we wantNext time, I think I'll do as Krystal suggested and use the rice in the purees and try him on porridge (baby type), see what's that's like.
Reading all the info we were given today - haven't come across anything I didn't know yet, but you never know - and writing us a shopping list for tomorrow.. off to the market once I've checked what FIL doesn't have on the allotment. No BNS this year - had it last year and there's some in for next year, but none for now. Bad planning on his part, I reckon!0 -
Hmm - high fibre food is not recommended but brown bread is fine

It is not advisable to give ‘low-fat’, ‘low-calorie’ or ‘high-fibre’ foods to babies. Babies have small tummies, but are growing fast. They need foods that provide lots of calories and nutrients within a small intake, rather than large quantities of high-fibre foods.
Fat gives them energy and provides some vitamins that are only found in fat. So choose full-fat dairy foods.
Do not give your baby high-fibre versions of foods, especially those with added bran as they prevent babies from absorbing important minerals such as calcium and iron. It is better not to give your baby brown rice, wholemeal pasta or bran-enriched breakfast cereals until they are older, though brown bread is largely fine.please listen to MFD - she is a wise womanProud Mummy to the gorgeous Benjamin John born 14 March 2009, 8lbs 14ozA new little seedling on the way, due 30 September 20120 -
On the childcare front, am I the only one going back to work and using grandparents (my mum, specifically)??
ETA Maybe that should be "utilizing with consent", not "using" exactly.. :rotfl:0 -
Interesting, it was a friend of mine that works for sir start and holds 'weaning parties' that told me... Will dig out the paperwork she gave me and see what it says...
Elle, I think becles uses grandparents...
Eta: just looked at the info she gave me and it just says to be careful, not to specifically avoid it... Maybe she interpreted it as avoid... Or maybe she was 'dumbing down' the information for intellectually challenged parents that you sometimes encounter... Either way, we haven't had a brown loaf in the house since hubby moved in so it's mostly irrelevant to me...A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...My Fathers Daughter wrote: »Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

Both my mum and dad work, and besides, my mum drinks and smokes far too much for my liking. I wish it were different - my grandma always used to look after me and my sister and we loved it!Sealed Pot Challenge #817 £50 banked0

We do now that my mum only works 2 1/2 days a week, but used nursery when she was full time. My mum has 1 day, Chris mum has 1 day, I am off 1 day and Chris has 2 daysthen the weekend I only work 3 hours on a Sat, so its fairly easy to sort out.
The two best things I have done with my life

MIL will have Benjamin 1 day a week. I wouldn't let her have him full time
But she is 65 in January, so I think she is in a different league to your mum!!please listen to MFD - she is a wise womanProud Mummy to the gorgeous Benjamin John born 14 March 2009, 8lbs 14ozA new little seedling on the way, due 30 September 20120 -

My mum's 53 in February
I asked OH what he would want if we didn't have my mum looking after Rhys and he said a CM (pretty much for the same reasons as you, plus more attention to Rhys' medication too). Thankfully, even he doesn't want Rhys going to his mother!
I'm sorry, I know I'm being thick and you have said before, but are you working fulltime from January? And when you get good news on the tender (I assume nothing yet?), will you be leaving your current job, or has your current job got an end date to it?
