.. Here is an interesting article in weds guardian about standards of care in special care baby units. Thought it might be of interest :D

Totally agree with all that! We were very lucky - Rhys had one-to-one care whilst in intensive care. It was as the article described:-
The taskforce said each such baby should have one-to-one care. But one nurse would be able to look after two babies requiring high dependency care and four babies getting special care..

They closed our unit countless times whilst we were there if they didn't have the nurses to do the above. I remember a few times when they were unexpectedly short staffed and some nurses were looking after 3 HD babies but Rhys' care didn't suffer. We used to feel a bit guilty "hogging" one nurse when all the others were rushing around but then we were very glad when ours could coming running instantly when the alarms started going off. There was one nurse in particular who was amazing and she's now transferred over to the Children's ward to broaden her training and experience so we still see her now :D

Oooh, elle I bought mini marshmallows yesterday to make RR. I have glace cherries, chocolate, sultanas and digestives. Is that all I need (apart from butter and golden syrup)?

I usually put in a few tbsps of cocoa/hot choc too but I don't suppose it matters :)

Our NICU is already hitting the government's targets - one to one care in IC, one to two in HD and, unless there are staff shortages, it's one to three in the Nursery. Not that I care anymore :j :j :j :j :j

So, I've got this squirming squawking but really cute baby lying in a moses basket in our living room .... what do I do now? :D

Is anyone going to the Sling Meet on Friday?

I'll be there :-) Sami, Himself has driven off with your breast pads in the back of the car so I can't bring them! Sorry, I'll get them to you soon though.

Oh and Elle you'd be a fab peer supporter, you don't have to know the all answers as the course and literature have that plus you'll have knowledge of preemies and expressing in a real world situation which others don't so you have very valuble stuff to contribute :-)

    there is folksy too.

I hope everyone is ok this morning. We've had a bit of a stressy morning - got letters through yesterday to say that we'd not got the new mortgage we'd applied for as we'd failed the credit check. Cue complete panic, as we aren't aware of any reason we would have. DH decided the best way to deal with this was to get drunk last night, and to try and pick fights with me this morning (he failed - I'm not rising to it, especially when he is so transparent ;) ), but now we've spoken to them it turns out it is a standard letter and the problem was something else entirely. Which doesn't help, but is a lot better than having something wrong with our credit rating. So hopefuly we are all friends again now.

We had a lovely day yesterday - we went for tea at nursery (which was PACKED with extra kids and mummies and few dads, grannies and grandads too!) which was hectic, but fun. Then we went to do sparklers in the garden! And after all that we decided seeing as we were already half way into town we would go meet daddy at the pub and eat cheesy chips.

Today is housework and getting-stuff-done day after all that yesterday! I've noticed Izzy is getting to tall for some of her clothes, so need to have a sort out and put away the small ones and get out the next size up. Then probably go to the supermarket for some more vests, and we have loads of nice pretty clothes in the cupboard, but not much in the way of boring but necessary ones. Those are not as much fun for broody ladies to buy for us ;)

And I need to make apple chutney before the apples all go off - they have been sitting on my kitchen floor for about 3 weeks. :o

It would all be much easier if this baby would have a nap! I can do some things with her [strike]under my feet[/strike] helping me, but not all of it!
