Mel - we've got 2 MALM chest of drawers and 2 bedside things, we've had one in Chris's room for 3yrs and its still as good as new, the drawers pull out really smoothly :)

3 - you divvy on the internet shop :p you have about 2hrs from picking your delivery slot to checkout, only once you've checked out do you 'have' the slot but you can go back and ammend your order untl the day before the delivery slot (can't remember what time it is though one is 10pm I think but not sure if thats tesco)

Weezl - do you need anything special for photoshop? on the tv they always use a tablet but is a ouse ok? I'd love to be able to use it!

I'm sat in the lounge with the hair dryer pointed at me! I hate my stoopid freezing house!!!

em - see if you can try the play tray before you buy - Chris has one on his britax seat in mums car but because they have to be easily removable in case of an accident he just needed to kick his legs and it comes flying off - hours of fun  :p

  • Sami - OH always uses a mouse for photoshop, ever as a graphic artist he didn't use a tablet. I like his photoshopping abilities - along with silly Toby photos, he can get rid of a spot in less than a minute!

Is SS still going to her parents for christmas?
MOTM things still going ok with lucy?
No, yes but with serious reservations and an escape plan in place, and yes :D

Don't try to do too much, lovely. Take care of yourself.

Edit: Oh, and I see a lot of second hand Malm stuff for sale in expat communities - it clearly stands up well to long term use :)

has anyone read any good books on raising children with healthy self-esteem?
No, but I did read an article a while back that said you should praise behaviour rather than ascribing an attribute to a child. Apparently telling a kid he's (eg) clever can, in some kids, cause them to feel ashamed when they come across something they can't understand IYSWIM. I think this is specifically a problem in weird family dynamics, from what I've observed in adults, but I've been telling Molly she's a clever girl for doing something rather than just that she's a clever girl just in case.

MM, that's pants about the course - and ironing leggings?! Are you some sort of pervert?

SS - my mum watched a documentary about David Badiel aparently he had a nervous breakdown at uni because he'd always had the "you're so clever" praise and couldn't handle it when he found it hard.

One thing I absolutely hate and have found myself saying (for which I always give myself a kick for coz I don't want to) is that my mum would always call me a stupid girl when I'd done something naughty/stupid, if anyone calls me stupid it totally enrages me!

Nobody was allowed to use the word "stupid" when I was a kid, and when my grandmother called me it once there was an epic row. Behaviour can be stupid, but people can't be.

I think the worst thing anyone ever called me was "vapid". I was outraged!

James struggles with school work, and I find I get the best results by saying "I like this bit, and this bit is really good, but can you think of anyways of making it even better?" Then I get him to go through it critically and guide him to finding the mistakes himself.

That works much better than just saying "that bit is wrong" as he'll fly off the handle and we have the "I'm crap at everything" drama queen routine.
Here I go again on my own....
