Tesco self serve checkouts - attendant has to check the number of bags NOT used

Options
Did my shopping, went to self serve till (my store doesn't have an option to add your own bags onto the weighing arm before you start :( ) so I placed each item loose on there before paying up. This is when my problem started. I entered 4 in the 'have you used your own bags' option - this summond 'the dragon' - who looked at my shopping (2 x 4 pints of milk, 2 loaves, 2 x 2 part baked french sticks, 1 pack pork belly strips, a bottle of Milkshake and a pair of trainers - 2 loaves in one bag, 1 x milk and 1 x pork belly in another, 1 milk and 2 x 2part baked french sticks in a 3rd, and the trainers in another = 4). Snotty cow tells me I shouldn't have put 4, I should have put 3!!

Who the heck asked her opinion? When did store assistants start telling customers (who pay their wages) how they should pack their own shopping?

I offered to let her take her points back if she was that worried, she said she'd let it go this time............

Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

Do what i do with those things, don't use them. The manager of Sainsburys Shorehead in Huddersfield got short shrift a few month ago after putting loads of new one's in. I have not shopped there again on principle.

Ask them if they are going to pay you to be a checkout clerk, i did.

    I hate the damned things.
  • I love the damned things. But the people who's job it is to stand around them and enter a code every time they mess up have got to be the most grumpiest and rude people I've ever seen in a Supermarket.

While I agree, 4 points isn't a massive amount, the tills are automatically preset to call someone over if more than 3 points are added just to verify.

They even made it easier for them so that at many Supermarkets they just have to scan a barcode to bypass it. But do they smile? :D

  • I have to agree about the staff who work around these 'self serve' tills in tesco. Not always in the best of moods!

Its not very nice being asked for ID when your 26 and buying a few beers in the middle of a packed Tesco! The lady had a face like thunder when I produced my driving license.

Its even more unpleasant to be in court and end up with a criminal record for selling alcohol to someone under age. Give her a break and let her do her job.

But CG, the face of Thunder is unpleasant and completely unnecessary.

I don't disagree with that point, its just the way people seem to take the hump when they are asked to prove they are over 18. We all know its an inconvenience, however think of what the possible alternatives are for the cashier if they get it wrong. The Think25 system was designed to make it almost foolproof.
