You don't have to use them you know.

I know, but when you are faced with only two tills open with a queue of about 8 at least in each, in a large store, i decided to give them a go in there, and having alcohol, well you know the script.

They should not be there, for multi national companies to make a few more quid and inconvenience people in the process by not having a human to speak to whilst packing your bags but have to put up with interacting with, for want of better words, a robot. You can keep them.

I am happy in the knowledge that Sainsbury's have lost money from me, albeit not much, but money none the less.

    They can keep their robots.

It doesn't mean they should get rid of them just because you don't like them. Granted most peole prefer staffed ones, but the amount of Self Service tills in virtually all supermarkets is much smaller than staffed ones. There's around 20 staffed tills at my local ASDA and 6 self service ones, that should satisfy surely?

It seems like a lot of people do not get it. The self service tills are not there to make your day go sweet.

They are there to deprive people of jobs. You know the things what we are all slaves to so we can all pay to have bank executives keep their multi million £ bonuses.

Think about it the next time you buy an airline ticket.

    The bankers must be paid.

The irony is lost on me in your quote. Six people that could be working you mean !!
  • My local store had a plastic card of the slot to slip vouchers into saying to 'ask for assistance' if you were using vouchers.

Turns out they'd had problems with people scanning vouchers & sticking any ol piece of paper though. Now that I could understand, but where they totally lost it was that if you had vouchers you would 'ask for assistance' & the supervisor would come over and remove the card that was stuck on with blu-tak/velcro and watch whilst you scanned and deposited each of the vouchers.

Whilst I can appreciate the issues, I take offence that they could just simply rely on spot-checking the use of vouchers, or something else.

No other store I've been in had this 'system' & so personally I just remove the card & continue to scan the vouchers myself.

Supermarkets don't just open to give people jobs you know, they open so that they can increase their profits but they need people to help them do that. Every job they bring to an area should be appreciated, rather than thinking about the small number that are replaced by machines.

Also, it's not 6 people working I mean. The amount of space the SS tills take compared to the staffed ones is tiny. At most they could fit two regular tills in the space, one person supervises the SS so altogether that's one job possibly lost. Though I suppose that's too high as well?

Lemongrave. You are too stupid to realise things. Do you believe in global warming? Father Christmas? I use lower case in the case of so called global warming. That's for sheeple.

I could have insulted you too when I disagreed with you but I didn't. Guess I should have after all.

Trust me, you have been deprived of the intelligence to insult anyone, even me.
  • I don't want this to become a 'Jules from Quidco #2' thread, if you have a problem with me then let me know, but through PM please.

A customer in front of me at a self service till yesterday placed a pack of steaks on the scanner, the barcode wouldn't scan, so they just pressed the handy 'loose carrots' icon instead!
