  • VJsmum - dear me *no* - thick stew, with baguette to mop up the bowl... A good supervision does leave you initially feeling a bit bruised, but should clobber the 'imposter' niggle, no? Right with you, Yorkshire tea is a bit robust for my palate but Skint's point about Yorkshire water is a good one. Oh my - family panic and oh phew, all is well. But eeep. OH cooking steak - you picked a good 'un!
Lynplatinum - parsnip curry sounds fun!
Purple kitten - all best with jobs, but hurrah for blackberries! And interviews and apples. All to be jellified to avoid seeds - your shelf will glint with jewel tones! Love the 'it would be rude not to' - but no need to return in Any Hurry. Happy weekend!
VickyA - kudos your brother rescuing a cat & replacing a vet as needed...
DundeeDoll - wasn't the Archers a cracker! Very nice jeweller - necklace now back in use? Introducing mrp to MS ways - splendid, and if sofas too, bonus! You star, passing on eduroam & Sconul & VPN, too - gifts which keep on giving.
Skint yet again - awed at all this painting & well done having a can to take back! That's how to weed offspring wardrobe - wait til they're away! I do love rhubarb giving friends. Ours is still very young, & bashful. Flu jabbed already? One less thing to worry about! Has DS noticed any wardrobe modifications?!
BoP - I saw a humane killer on a car boot & didn't buy it. Regretted that several times since. No paperwork... Ah, Casablanca - *splendid* film! Dynamite mushrooms, hm. Sorry interviewers blind to the treasure that is BoP. You have a wire loose? And lots of strawberries - excellent. Bless your authoritative reassurance.
katkin - awed at such organisation of clothes & shoes, and congratulations getting it started! Washed own loose covers & all survived? Wonderful!
Frith - like the sound of the hen shop - how is Barbara? Fingers crossed with interview & well done sticking at the French. Admirable son cooking tea! ye Gods Frith - very glad medics clustering around you. Odd but useful chats with dad? Timing of a raised bed splendid!
LaineyT - sorry you're not feeling quite the article but a good rest can only help. Autumn crumbles, good friends & walking away from a bad job - priceless! Taking mum for a spin in a wheelchair in the sunshine - you have to seize some opportunities. Love being startled by cute resident toad!
ampersand - sometimes cooking instructions push self discipline Too Far. Joubert still lives? Tush. Love the seasonal reminders "In September If you're careful, Buy grains and clothes". Event - we are here for the bad times too, and hold you in our thoughts.
Kittikins - your own personal gin? Blimey! Plus a solar system & feeling positive - all good! Curled up with a good book does not specify the format, & enjoying break duty - admirable/formidable/wondrous.
mhagster - drat lots about the $50, but glad to think of aldi pots filled with hope & a "just me and my dog" day. I suppose Haggis is far to well mannered to nip latepaying boss? Glad he's there to welcome you after the hospital day. Love "for some reason", but very glad estate agent been & gone & palliative folk friendly. Lazy day earned after others not at all. Drying day, clean bedlinens, lemons from odd neighbour - hoping your ring is ready!
mila - wow, what a lot of chilli! Quoye seems to have had a ball at the New Mexico State Fair - all those animals when you're two! All the best with the wrinkly retina. Still the family cabbie, but I only have 4 chaps to run around.
bushbaby - fresh bedlinens are a delight. The anticipation of boyf sounds pretty good too!
topsyturphy - coffee, kindle, sunshine - oh yes!
Mrs LW - hurrah for hugs to DD2 & Pingu (?), can *feel* the warm young arms clamped happily around Oma, and ah the unspeakable pleasure of one's own mattress. Oooh, the pasta sauce sounds wonderful! The Fruit Cage sounds both promising & intimidating, but the Autumn mists have been spotted once (to my delight) & I look forward to more.
Uhtred - so glad CC is All Gone & that Autumn can be enjoyed! Ah the joys of a strategic meter read - well done! Sorry to hear brown paper & iron neeeded, but best wishes unwaxing carpet.

    OS Pleasures recently
Listening to a trailer for the News Quiz. I rather wish my weekends were structured to allow me to catch this routinely, but the thrill of the surprise on a drive is almost a sufficient reward.

Happy hoots from the lads watching Speed with Guy Martin. Anyone driving a Transit at over 100mph over a 90 mile course in the desert heat gets my vote for eccentricity & the tea drinking mechanic has that in spades!

Head Boy Skypeing Head Girl from optimum wifi location on the stairs. Pleasure in seeing what brothers have thrown at him - a wig, underwear, assorted CDs, a teddy bear - all diligently selected to embarrass brother off main traffic route.

Just seen a thread (on another forum!) about the advantages of a flintlock gun. Well, apart from anyone who knows two beans about guns rolling helplessly on the ground laughing, especially in Lancashire, I'm less than convinced. (Any weapon that depends on you keeping the gunpowder dry in our soggy microclimate is so much rust waiting to happen.) I believe the poster's point is that it's easy to maintain & repair & sort ammo etc for, but Ye gods you need to be in the desert conditions before it's a seriously viable idea. (Says she, gluing another vane onto an arrow. Yes, bowstrings dislike rain too but the misfire rate in the wet is lower...)

Mozzarella & lemon curd sandwiches for breakfast - teenagers...

The sight of three vintage chaps sat at a table, taking it in turns to entertain someone's grandchild! The flat cap has a starring role in Hide & Seek...

Admiring the elderly lady who refuses to let that get in the way of a nice ice cream. Seems electric blue sherbet ice cream is her preference & anyone gawking gets a sunny smile before she returns to the fun.

Aw, mums in niqabs proudly taking photos of toddlers leaping on the bouncy castle at Batley Festival. Right alongside mums in summer garb doing just the same.

Sons debating merit of Capri Sun straws as a weapon. "Oh, ShankStraw Redemption?" queried youngest. His puns get Worse....

Youngest actually dashed good company shopping. I'd never *realised* there was a bear in the Toblerone mountain til he mentioned it! (I am a devout believer in Sneaking Up on Christmas rather than taking a painful hit to the wallet in one month. Sadly I seem to combine both methods.)

The Mormons came knocking & were turned away with courtesy on both sides, and best wishes for their Mission. I feel for those poor young lads away from home & family for two years. (Strewth, do I feel a bit elderly when the *Mormons* are looking younger every year!)

Finally bought a fitness tracker so I cannot fib to myself I'm walking enough. Not the very latest tech but cheap & well reviewed so now 'all I have to do' is kick on with it, ahem.

"Are you sucking on cheesecake?!" "That shall be my new album name!" Really, no one would imagine these two lads are *riveted* by Poldark...

The quality of mercy is impressive - the homeless chap I see on my way into work is full of praise for the church that offered a hairdresser, chiropodist, full clean dry change & a three course meal - the shorn head is his choice but he'll "save on a comb!"

Eid al-Adha, so used discounts to resupply on rice and oil, and ambled past the olive samples several times. Some were the size of eyeballs! Tasted glorious though.

Much enjoying the sound of John Humphreys getting to grips with the new polymer £5 note. He was not allowed to try to burn it, but we heard it dunked in BBC coffee and gnawed on! Truly public service broadcasting. No idea how well it folds between phone & case though. [Borrowed colleague's as she was happy to do show & tell so long as she got it back - creased viciously but she assures me it'll "spring out"]

Ah, my family's linguistic shortcomings are an ongoing source of amusement. (It's smile or cry.) "Con Wavies" is how the young refer to Huevos Rancheros, a dish we much enjoy but Mila might find a very feeble imitation of the fiery fuel.

    Stunning thunder & lightning!

18:9 optimists to raincoat wearers this morning. Everyone in shirtsleeves this afternoon. Meh - the shirtsleevers yesterday did not enjoy it.

Hurrah Concentrix going - the cheek to blame our systems when they don't answer *their* phones! Chatting to Tax Credits trainer, heard much more sulphurous gen.

Full Moon! Just beautiful & strangely golden.

Light on carpet cleaning machine hire down to one working LED. "Ah", grins son, "cleaning so good it gives you seizures"....

Just finished a cup of three cinnamon tea. Delicious!

Eavesdropping again, "I hope your funeral goes well" - I *think* this is of a relative rather than a threat...

Trees are becoming longer and more interesting as leaves fall highlighting the underlying structure.

Pondering what makes a thick soup thick - don't fancy cornstarch, potato is what I'm trying to ease back on, and a hearty roux? While delicious, has slightly more butter than I can reconcile with healthy eating. Got to get the fat soluble vitamins from somewhere though! Logically long slow cooking should produce the texture but possibly not the taste.

Great big hugs (gentle blessings also available, just remind me) to all who need them, may these odd warm days include the weekend (attaboy Raffles - the yellow stuff is appreciated!) and may we all slide gracefully towards Autumn?!
  • So you think a pond would protect you from being electrocuted. Think again!

5 Not much happening in BpP lands this day, except went out to get the tart fuel inn. Raffles was sat on fence hard staring the yard. Oh well, when I got home, he was still hard staring. You just cannot hard stare a cat.

4 Finish rehab on the ticker. Jenny, warning mila she can electrocute people, has passed with colours flying. Her loose lead will be tested again shortly.

3 Was out and about earlier with a soup and sandwich. Not the two slice loaf on the shelf seven days old, see recent missives about proper foods and eating properly, but home made. Rubs Tum. Tonight again I shalll be tossing off. Pancakes that is. Topped with fruit salad and bits. Anyone else put cocoa on their pancakes. See above about proper foods again! Go on you want to try.

2 Nite is ready for Glawster Rugby. Against dome shark or fish thing! Wobbleades are readied in the box. Be careful as too much wobbleade can cause distress.

It is today, that tomorrow, you will worry too much about, only yesterday!
  • 1) We just (with the help of my much taller brother) put up the frame for the fruit cage, my goodness it looks very large!!!

    2) Said brother is a good boy and not only took surplus courgettes but a small surplus pumpkin too, well done that man!

    3) Trip to town on the bus this morning not only yielded YS rump steaks from Mr.Ts butchery counter but also a brand new T Shirt and a Christmas book from a Hospice Charity Shop for my Zebra!

    4) Message from an E.Bay supplier to say that the lino cut of ladybirds we wanted for new Grandsons nursery is now back in print so that is ordered, same supplier supplied a beautiful lino print of multi coloured bugs and beetles for Zebra too. Will give both as a gift when new boy arrives.

    5) It's cooler outside today, we have a breeze and walking the dogs today was a real pleasure. Forecast to actually be much cooler overnight too, oh bliss to sleep and not wake baking hot, maybe for the first time in months to actually sleep the whole night through? watch this space.......
  • Hope you are bearing up &
    1) the feel of bouncing along from Marco Polo airport in the water taxi
    2) the taste of spaghetti wth mussels in a light tomato sauce
    3) the sound of the water lapping nearby the restaurant
    4) the smell of a very nice red wine
    5) the sight of the Rialto
Have you guessed where I am yet? Holiday :-)

That all sounds very pleasant, DD!

    Pleasures for today:

    1) Sorted out a few admin jobs.

    2) Tablets continue to work (or at least, to do something) and I was well aware when yesterday's was wearing off. :-/

    3) Went to local town to get some cash out. Went into the charity shop and there was one of my old albums! I put all my CDs on the laptop and ipod then PCWorld wiped the laptop and smaller son put the ipod in the washing machine - 100 albums lost. I had given the CDs to various local charity shops but there was one back on sale again :-) Unless there is someone else in S Shrops who listens to Cracker.

    4) Had a sandwich in my car on our local bit of moorland then found a geocache in a tiny village church.

    5) Also tidied up, 2 loads of washing etc.

    6) Hens OK. Have a lovely video clip of 2 doing PYO raspberries.

    7) Sons back from school happy enough. Just music homework for smaller son.

    8) Made a tea they always enjoy.

    9) Watched the Last Leg.

    10) My sister phoned.

    1. Had my first 'bad' day at school today, children were crazy, chatty, a bit rude and all telling tales and arguing with each other! I got a splitting headache and was rather snappy by 3:20! Thankfully once the painkillers kicked in after school, I could reflect that what I already see as a 'horrible' day was actually an 'average' day with my old class, which cheered me up no end!

    2. A lovely friend has just completed on her first flat with her lovely chap :)

    3. Was the recipient of a beautiful aloe vera plant from the staffroom table last week, and donated a bag of scrumptious cooking apples from our one tree this week.

    4. DD has told me how much she loves me being around more and that she feels she can talk to me about everything these days :) So happy, both for her, and of course for me, as I'm loving being home by 6pm and having lots of chats and cuddles with my reason for living :) We both know that I won't be able to do it all the time, but we're being sensible.

    5. Very thankful that the business manager noticed that the Council didn't have my bank details yesterday, as payroll has apparently been done today - fingers crossed, I will be paid for all the fun I'm having at the end of the month! :)

    6. The class guinea pig had to go to the vet's yesterday with an infection but seemed so much better by the time I left today. He was tucking into a big juicy carrot and scampering around very happily :)

    7. One of the school chickens laid an egg this morning, which was a source of joy for the girls in my class who were on chicken duty!

    8. Although we don't have a working phone line at home, we do have t'internet - and as I reminded my mother, although her care alarm won't work, we won't leave her on her own at all until everything is working, and we do have mobile phones around the place, so can get help pronto if anything untoward happens...

    9. Managed to get a little bit of work done whilst DD was at her counselling tonight

    10. Looking forward to helping DD think of how to make a model of a cell for her science project. She's thinking of papier mache or a cake! She's not sure if she's allowed to take homework in early, which might make cake less of a good idea if it isn't allowed in on a Monday, for example (i.e. trying to make a detailed cake on a school night could be tricky, not like the glory that was the volcano chocolate cake many years ago...)

    11. Realised after typing that hoping for "space cake" might be misconstrued, lol. We're setting making a cake with a space theme as a possible voluntary homework task for KS2!
    12. There is such a thing as a free lunch! I'm not yet on the school lunch ordering system, but so fancied fishfingers and chips...so the cook said she'd give me lunch gratis :) Yay to computerised systems that can't cope with unusual circumstances!!
    13. Despite the craziness of the class (and a few extras that tagged along for the last 2 days), they all managed to complete the work I set this afternoon. I'm looking forward to reading the 'extension' where they had to write a diary entry as one of the people/animals that went to space....someone announced he didn't want to write about Albert the Monkey in 1957 (? hope that's right!), he wanted to change it to a Pig called Wiggly going into space....Love the creativity :)

DD, just saw a study on red wine that said sommeliers brain are thicker in the region that needs to fight off Alzheimer's
Hurray for less pain and fewer pain pills, topsy!
Mrs LW I want a new girl or new boy to go with Sequoia. Efforts are being made.:rotfl:

    * A son who will clean the refrigerator every Friday!!!!

    * Finally got a call and the floor guy is coming on Monday. Just to measure but it's a start.

    * DH has a lead on a good cabinet maker who needs work.

    * Rain three days in a row. Ground yourself if boP shows up!!

    * D4V my Mormans are looking younger too. You made me smile!!!

    * Words with Friends nemeses and I are virtually tied and going into the home stretch. It's getting down to the wire.

    * Ripper Street season two was begun today.
Overprepare, then go with the flow.

  • Haven't posted for a while. Been on holiday and had a fantastic time. Spent most of the time relaxing in the sun, swimming and enjoying food and drink.
    Some since I returned.

    1. My father is recovering from his hip surgery. It took slightly longer than he expected - he thought he would recover at the same speed as his first hip surgery 10 years ago! He is still getting over radiotherapy treatment as well. He seems positive now.

    2. DS2 has a job interview with perhaps others being lined up after an interview with recruitment as agency on Thursday afternoon.

    3. Spent time in the garden yesterday and part of it is looking tidy. Perhaps more could be tidy if I hadn't been helped by chickens.

    4. Taken lunch into work every day this week. It is so much nicer than sandwiches from the canteen.

    5. Have been loving the weather this last week. I prefer hot weather. Am not keen on cold, damp days.

    6. Have sunflowers in a vase. Cheerful .
