Dark o'clock over here , despite rain forecast its stayed dry again. Was supposed to be stormy so we had big dark clouds on one side and blue sky on the other. Washing dried outside which pleases me.

This is our last day of winter, it's been a cold and damp one, so looking forward to some hopefully milder days .

Today we were supposed to have a visit from community nurse ( long story , numerous frustrating phone calls yesterday , a referral was not made last week when it should have been, an apology and we will come out Wednesday call made yesterday ...) by 2pm we were getting rather fed up waiting in, I called, was told he was seen yesterday...well, no he wasn't, call back, too late for today and organised for tomorrow.

So whilst on enforced house arrest I made a banoffi pavlova for tonight's pudding. A huge quiche using the egg yolks and some scary veg from fridge and a little apricot tart with the leftover pastry.

Went out for a coffee and then did a small aldi shop.

Dinner tonight is a lasagne with mashed potatoes and veggies. It's a cooking.

I cut the back grass....under supervision! A bit soggy from last nights rain. We have a petrol mower that I struggle to start.

Nice chat with friend from Sydney.

I have placed 2 wooden deck chairs out on the front verge that hopefully someone will help themselves too. They get very cobwebby and get in the way. They have gone out complete with webs. No extra charge for them.

    Have a good day :)

Yes that's the one. I watched the TV series in English. It's known as Y Gwyll in Wales and is a police detective series. The detectives investigate murders all over western Wales, which I adore seeing. Scenes are filmed twice, once in English and once in Welsh. I watched it on Netflix and am looking forward to season 3. :j

    Yep, I love it too. He's a miserable bu88er though isn't he? :p:rotfl:

ampersand - atta gal & rousing cheers beloved uncle making NZ yet brighter. 'Putah misbehaving? We still love you. Love the switches in language, can 'hear' you beautifully! Hurrah 'putah behaving & stunned to hear match had to switch one ball to another but will seek out kamate. And peg tins, if only as I *never* look like that before, during, or after laundry. Who else would feed Raffles SSSI newts? (Working a treat mind - lashing of yellow stuff here!)
Frith - much impressed at sons' rowing & language & culinary skills & sorry to hear Aunt not as long lived as siblings. Tool sale? Massive agricutural? Please share chow mein as my lot venturing thoughtfully towards "real" rather than emptied jar. (Rightly, but inconvenient.) Canoeing with kingfishers very special pleasure & dead right family viewing of Robot Wars! Lovingly bleached shirts & watching self-putting-to-bed chickens. Hurrah son's mechanical prowess, even if Every Machine used. So long as just hoovering & not mopping of blood required, success! Making tea for artists often revelatory.
BoP - imagining you reducing snorkers... Delighted portrait of HM reappeared. Fish! Extra locos. Ivor?! Jones the Steam?
Mrs LW - good to hear Plans being melodiously subverted by Zebra & yum, good reading! Chocolate moustache and roe deer and lined up swallows - please don't go yet?! Hoping along with you & DD2. ALL the courgettes and runnerbeans and blackberries - but what will you have left to eat? Still, delighted friends!
LaineyT - drat yard, blast work, huzzah chores done & medics swift. Dapples in summer? Glorious! Enjoy that letter?
Skint yet again - hurrah no fillings & hoping Bank Hol Weekend full of industriously what You want? Old VHS tapes glue together to make planters & I love the re-used cases as box photo frames. Nifty it into a keysafe if you want or decorate as giftwrap. Tapes themselves apparently can be crocheted with?!
mhagster - lunch with OH, massive bruising before wedding by DD1 (clearly this dint before photo thing is not just me, oh good) & The Ring! Photo, please? Ongoing love & pebbles. Snoozes vital & lemons will come. Excellent friends to bring bolognese & oh yes, freezer Tetris! Banoffi pavlova sounds amazing - 'scary veg' quiche honestly delightful!
Emm-in-a-pickle - taking 4 into Abakhan?! If that doesn't plant a seed Nothing will. My creative muse awakens & reaches for the creditcard just at the threshold, so I tend to hide all monies in hands of a third party. Hurrah real spinach!
mila - rained enough for grass? <blinks - New Mexico weather somewhat different to Lancashire> Shampooed carpets a definite pleasure & the more if someone else has kindly done the work. Aw Toby dog! Absolutely right that as soon as you find the tile you are agreed on, Stop! Hinterland? Will investigate - thank you!
DundeeDoll - happy birthday! Well done trying everything nice at spa, and networking in sunny Munich! Any domestic chores you've not done for 33 years? (spider relocation?) I *love* Meant To Be things, awed at your trainer timing & pass a virtual handkerchief. All courage!
VJsmum - well done to all exam candidates & good luck with sample chapter. Dad couldn't find Anything to moan about? (visit, quickly? When my children were quiet & obedient, something Gruesome was near, & I suspect it may apply to parents!) Trains splendid places to be both industrious or idle to taste. I quite enjoy the young ranting - they often see and say things Much More Clearly. Plus they seem to need to rest up afterwards, or go elsewhere & be vigorous.
mrs.motivated - dashed well done on car boot & isn't it wonderful how your past tastes are fully vindicated?!
zaxdog - all joys with culinary enterprises, yowch leg, can only admore your wardrobe & oh, fresh linens!
VickyA - all best with the new term & yes, I'm sure it'll all come back in time for Christmas. Careful with new boots - break them in gently?!
kittikins - congratulations on cuddling an alligator - will enhance Christmas cards & reputation! Sounds splendid holiday - well done you both! Cake & murder sound lovely family occupations & hurrah theatre tickets...
Purple kitten - welcome back from hols & the Laundry (like the Poor) is *always* with us. Approach in batches?

    OS Pleasures recently
Strange yellow rectangles in the window - turn out to be sheets of beeswax bleaching in the sunlight. (In Lancashire....)

"thank you for spaghettifying!" - some days all the effort pays off.

    Oh my. Charity shop thong (new on card) makes impressive elephant noises, so husband sent eldest to till therewith. Eldest still scarlet when we reconnected ten minutes later & brothers intrigued & heartless... [Mother in law giggling every time she thinks of it. Of *course* we got him to tell her - she needs the laughter.] {Garment has disappeared! Both father, son & I are all under suspicion though I incline towards entropy as most likely culprit.}

This Kondo lark is heavy lifting, physically & emotionally. Still, a great deal of what-to-wear angst is being shown the door & I may yet devote a drawer to shoes...

Found an empty bag clearly printed as containing a teddy bear. Son asked where was the bear? "I ate it, buttered." (Polite version of <verb>ed if I know...) He was grossed out by the buttered idea!

Son has bought himself a cashbox. In it, I'm told, are his newly opened bank account details, protected by an origami dinosaur. Lest tinplate & a lock not be enough.

Our lovely library accepted a bag full of special returns - at least 4 of which were not on the system. Ahem. (Tidying revealed books long lost.) Librarian was Utterly charming, & even switched the "reservation notification" from 9am phone call to email! (*Why* did I leave it So Long to ask?! I'm back at work in less than a week!)

The "dujardin jelly" is dripping, an attempt at apricot fruit leather is in the dehydrator (along with 4 mangoes on other shelves, nomnomnom) & I may have a swing at nectarine jam tomorrow if guests & dog permit.

I have checked and deleted *loads* of work emails so when I do go back (somewhat unwillingly!), my first day will be much more interesting. Although with more lumpy conundra to wrestle with.

Son, tidying bathroom, has sort of colour coordinated the shelves in red green & blue... Then was startled when we asked if it had been deliberate! Unconscious OCD?!

Apricot fruit leather allowed to cool flat, so not rolling neatly but making delicious bite size pieces broken from the whole. Quickly bagged & labelled while still some to bag.

Lads & godfathers dog all playing together happily & with great trust.

The Prepared satisfaction of ensuring my parents bathtubs are all Full before the water is cut off (for works) & we have visitors. [Works now postponed til October but parents aware of additional intelligent steps to take, prior!]

Enjoying a few minutes peace in the garden, taking photos for a Facebook nature photo challenge & ducking under a spider web that is an impressive 8' across. While trying to wipe an earlier misunderstanding off my face & glasses while holding my phone & a cup of tea.

Re-found & shared the Four Step Apology, which is an ongoing issue between between my siblings & myself & I'd love us to try these steps!
    http://www.cuppacocoa.com/a-better-way-to-say-sorry/

Cheerfully eviscerating Uber (with a cousin) as it absolutely lacks the accessibility & insurance requirements of the licensed cab trade, let alone The Knowledge or mechanical strictures.

Shower has developed intermittent fault (stops & refuses to restart) do sons have returned to bathing. Only "it's too hot" - awaiting all three to be clean May Take A While. I find myself eyeing the garden hose. Son meanwhile playing pool with bath towel draped strategically. [Yep, the day did only 'start' at 11.35 & I'm back at work in 2 days!]

Vigorous debate as to how to get teenagers to drink their orange juice. What sounded like a variant on water boarding was included amongst their ideas.

Should you have need of an 8' or 10' wooden pole, try a chandler. These folk can be startlingly inland where unknotting canal boat users. Himself now has the right shaft for his spearhead & yes, you can fit an 8' pole into a Mondeo with 2 adults & 3 (hulking great) teens!

Yes! Paddling in sea water! [My definition of the idea 'holiday'.] If you felt even a minute of calm relaxed peace (and I do hope it's not so rare as to be noticeable) I thought of each of you, current new & past, as I tossed pebbles into the waves.

Fish & chip supper, with the scents of both brine and vinegar around, chuckling as son opines that the seagull "quoth Give Me More!"... (It was even moderately MS as we brought our own drinks.) Very North of icecream town but the same happy times, I think!

Son diligently washing his beach finds - shells, stones & what I think is a bit of brick. They're glorious choices, glistening wet & beautiful.

Huge hugs to all who need them, tears have their place along with laughter & thank you for the yellow stuff Raffles!

Frith the chicken stories always make me smile. We had 6 girls a long time back.
I have been eating my way through the freezer mhags so haven’t had to play freezer tetris for a while.I suspect that might change when the lodger arrives as we have quite a small freezer.
VJsmum sounds like you’re bounding along with the PhD and managing plenty of visits to icecream town. Good to keep a balanced life :P
kittikins cuddling an alligator wow, agree with DFV excellent Christmas card (keep it snappy lol)
Welcome back Purple kitten hoping yellow thing is out for you for laundry mountain.
Well done on returning the books DFV. I remember returning two terribly overdue books which I thought I’d lost and had actually paid for! I am increasingly intrigued by the Kondo method.
    And so for yesterday
    1) a tearful wave good bye to a van with 33 years of memories has now been done
    2) another farewell, this time to a work colleague who is headed over the silvery Tay to St Andrews - I resisted the cake!
    3) went for walk with lovely work colleague - we needed to get a couple of grant applications signed over in the medical school, and walked the long way back through the arboretum
    4) home to my lovely new curtains in my kitchen. Made scrummy stroganoff with chestnut mushrooms that needed using up. enough for 2 portions so other half packed for today's lunch
    5) long bath and a few more chapters of 'Thirteen guests' and to bed.

  • 5 Nothing like a good old slog, hitting leather on to the willow. Did not think 360 would be reached, but lo and behold, a quadruple Nelson. All to play for!

4 Treaders were out for a shout yesterday and away wents BoPsie. I think that because she can p[lace the balls in Captains Mistress and win at Backgammon set her on the right course for the night. Wobbleale was sourced and consumed afterwards, as well as a little show about Ginger. Seems the regressive TV Tax, not paying, means I will now miss out on the University Challenge. Never mind, better get this weeks one before they hide. Oh and please remember we are now in the season where non entity millionaires appear asking the poor to relinquish their money. It was ok in 1981. In 1982, it was not. Avoid. Better give my usual £25s to the RBL and RAFBF. Must order the cards for xmas from
    https://shop.rafbf.org/products/battle-of-britain-memorial-flight-over-lincoln-cathedral
At least the presenters wont be earning double in a night what the checkout girl does in a year!

4 Gosh that is a lot and BoP has not even got started yet. Move on. Moving on. Raffles, fed up with his crunch and real meats and teats, ahas bought home his own this day. Seeing BoPsie off to the mill, he managed to grab a lander in the yard and drag it onto the plaza. He also got a treat with a slow worm. Though BoP, being kind and considered. PM 2 BoPise, not the words! I removed said deadstock and slow worm, only for Raffles, king of the protected space and newt pond, to bring the worm back home! He is resting.

3 Last night BoPsie and me had tea on our plaza. It is not a patio, as it more than two paving stones, but around 100 instead. Saves mowing what was the effects of a lawn, but more than a rubble covered monstrosity the builders left! There were no strawberries as none were on offer.

2 Night we could have another offering from Ginger. Apparently BoPsie is well served by some dance partner! I don't understand it. Oh well! Toes will be curled. Let us see now!

You accept it is there, but you have no proof. Rejection is easy?

We had a wonderful time, we were able to relax and switch off over in wales, and I came back with a load of lava that’s now frozen where not mixed into things.:)

I saw literally hundreds of fish, and loved watching dog fish basking.:)

We explored Castles, caves ruins and trenches.:D

We packed up and moved over to the Great D0rs3t steam fair, which is always amazing, DH popped the question on the big wheel 14 years ago so we always celebrate.:jWe walked about 9 miles a day but also ate a lot of “good food”:o, so it all offset itself. It’s an amazing place with what I would call annual friends who always chat and new acquaintances. :p

Today we are ploughing on catching up at home, started on the washing loads all hung out on the line and cycling around wet/clean.:)

Started on the garden by dead heading front and back. Strimmed and mowed front and back but the weeding will have to wait as I’m shattered. Popped some slug killer into the front garden as we are over run with them.:D

Lots of green tomatoes but not one red one yet.:o

Re stocked the bird feeders and cut back a plant to reveal the bird water under it.:eek:I’ve created 3 sacks of garden rubbish to go with the other 12 I created before we left, hmm may have to do a tip run sooner rather than later.:o

Leftover food of apple and cider sausages and small chops will create a mixed grill, with some potato salad.

To make my life easier I have just registered my DF on Mr T and created a very large order to be delivered when we are over there in a day or so:), and as he’s new he has a month of free deliveries offer which is lovely. :money: I am not annoyed but I will be terminating the care company as we didn’t get to go away without phone calls etc. I ignored it a fair bit as it is whey over time that DB took some of the calls so I let them filter off while we were away.

Welcome home to our weary travelers, enjoyed reading about your exploits.
Best wishes to DD that's a lot of memories packed into a van, hurrah for new starts X

Some pleasures for last few days,

Family get together meant time spent with lovely cousins, childhood memories of grandparents house and being taught to skin a rabbit, make chutney and knitting needles thrown into fireplace to wake up sleeping Grandad, priceless. Darling Mum held court like the queen she is and enjoyed the day.

Handing in notice at toxic workplace. Obnoxious supervisor beat me by a day having stormed out on Friday, twinge of sympathy for manager but situation had festered for some time.

Nights drawing in and candles it by 8pm.

The warm, sunny weather continues, not a bad summer after dodgy start.

Today darling Mum had first visit from palative care team, met lovely lady who will be Mum's main contact, she put DM at ease immediately with honesty and matter of fact-ness. Oh and the lady likes Tunnocks, what more can I say.
  • 1. trying to use up items lurking in the freezer. Cooked some salmon and added pasta, red peppers, sweetcorn & mayo for lunch

trying a recipe for Moroccan liver tomorrow for something different to the usual mash & gravy to use up liver that has been lurking since January.

    2. managed to book 3 days leave next week starting on Wednesday when I have agreed to drive DS & GF to airport for afternoon flight.

    3. have managed to lose the weight I put on during my holiday at DP's ... maybe something to do with upset stomach at the weekend but hopefully I can keep it off.

    4. no chocolate or ice-cream consumed today ... feeling virtuous :A

    5. cooler day today but still managed to get washing dry

First day of meteorological autumn tomorrow ..
