    1. Painkillers and being oh so tired meant I slept like a log until 1pm! :) My back is still horrible but I love the NHS...

    2. Sunshine most of the day, well the part of it I was up for!

    3. Watched GBBO with DD in the sitting room, a rare treat as usually we're relegated to the laptop on my bed :)

    4. Enjoyed more of grandadkins' delicious birthday cake wot we made :)

    5. NSD, phew!

Post randomly deleting sentences/the whole lot, so hope this sends...

    Hope you're OK, DD.

    Pleasures for today:

    1) Not a bad sleep but interrupted by a very noisy muntjak then an owl.

    2) Porridge for breakfast.

    3) Finished application form and emailed it. Have no idea if emailing it is OK, all instructions very, very vague.

    4) Spent hours sorting out the garden. Old concrete path dug up completely and cleared into builder's tonne bag. Bigger son and I laid new concrete slabs up to the door. Then cleared all bark chippings from "working area" of the garden. These had pretty much turned to compost, full of worms! We spread it around the flower beds. New bark chippings went down.

    5) Won 3 raised bed timbers on Ebay so those will hopefully be built over the weekend and my old "raised bed" made of concrete, bricks etc can go too!

    6) Bigger son went to talk to men at nearby agricultural engineers about making a new part for his table saw. One of them is going to keep an eye out in scrapyards for him.

    7) Sons went swimming this evening. No brother around so I had to sit on the side as a lifeguard.

    * DD3 sent me a quote that reminded her of me.

    Some days I amaze myself.
Other days I put the laundry in the oven.

I told her this was simply not true. I know the laundry goes in the dishwasher. :D;)

    * Thanks to &, I now like rugby.

    * started the series Marcella on Netflix. I fast forward through the salty parts.

    * Made a childhood memory for dinner...Cocktail Meatballs. Tiny meatballs simmered in BBQ sauce in which grape jelly is melted. The taste blasted me back to the 60's. Green chile cheese cornbread, potato salad, garden sliced tomatoes.

    * I dug out a cookbook I bought while in Israel and am pondering what to begin with...and the winner is Shakshuka. Brings back fond memories of winter jeeping with my daughter's landlord, his sons and his friends. We set off at 4am and by 9a were famished after a morning of risky jeep rock climbing.. The entire group (9 vehicles) stopped at a park and the food was unloaded. One of the men began to dice lots of fresh veggies and used them to create this dish in a big skillet over a small propane burner. The fragrant smell in the cool morning air had everyone drooling. Eggs were cracked into the sauce and pitas were doled out. We passed by as he filled our pita with the tantalizing sauce and perfectly cooked egg. The table was loaded with so many kinds of salatemes and pastries. One of the most glorious meals I've ever had. I didn't know it but I was to need great sustenance for the daring manuveurs we made in those jeeps that afternoon.

    * Old Toby is a tough little scamp. Such a sweet lovely boy. But his back legs are still refusing to hold him up for very long. He hates being closed in the sitting room with us but needs the confinement. We are awaiting lab results and morosely pondering his future. Fingers crossed that we can proceed with his operation to fix his hip.

    * 30+ jalepanoes harvested, bagged and frozen. More to come.

    * More rain today. :D The desert is blooming.
Overprepare, then go with the flow.

Thank you for your good wishes. Having waited for this new chapter for so long it was a little daunting to turn the page and find it is totally blank, no lines even to write on. But now I am doodling round the edges a bit :D
Hope the back gets better soon kk
    "Some days I amaze myself.
Other days I put the laundry in the oven. " msm lol I did today manage to put the laundry in the washing machine :D so for yesterday
    1) day started not quite as planned. Skype went off 8:30 just as i was getting ready to walk dogs (late start due to dentist at 9:15). student had 8:30pm, i had 8:30pm, prof had 8:30 am. We went with 8:30 am :rotlf:
    2) as i had to get away pronto 9:05 the meeting was focussed and productive
    3) £10.76 for thorough check-up and clean from my very favourite dentist - like you kk I lerv the NHS
    4) then home to walk the dogs and onto work
    5) mum came round for supper as did new gbf who now has front door key but not sure when he's moving in. i had cooked a very nice pork ragu in the slow cooker. hooray for slow cookers. only 2 pork chops in the freezer (recipe said four) so i padded with butter beans.

    Well done, DD

    Pleasures for yesterday

    1. laundry dried on the line
    2. hair done at the hairdressers - I've gone several shades lighter, I think it's less aging (here's hoping)
    3. made a slightly unusual cottage pie for tea - using up odds and s0ds. it was delish :D
    4. bacon, egg, tomatoes, kimchi and avo for brunch - also delish
    5. DD finished work - phew, she made it...

More writing today (deadline looming) and DS has his driving theory test later. it will be touch and go for a pass.

Have a goodun one and all

    Good evening :)

Spring has sprung ( ...a bit of a leak , been cool and damp!)

Today has been spent fairly quietly, caught up on some UK telly. Hoovered , washed floors, cleaned bathrooms ...I know how to live the high life!

Dropped off a couple more things at salvos .

Made rather delicious lentil soup for tea with lovely and free bread from bakers ( loyalty card) .

I shall forego the rather nice looking bread and butter pudding as I'm doing a sugar free September . Made with left over eggy/creamy mix from quiche and bread DD2 brought home from work at weekend.

My husband has rather spontaneously ( for him :)) booked us an overnighter in Sydney , he wants to climb the harbour bridge. I do not , so that's very money saving ! Cheap flights as we are leaving ridiculously early and freebie in hotel using his points.

My 2 cobwebby chairs have gone :) they were there this morning but not this afternoon . They are very welcome to the spiders too!

Do have a lovely day x

ooh, we are hoping to go to Australia next summer and climbing the harbour bridge is one of my things to do.

Talking of cheap flights, if we fly on 30th june it is £400 - £500 cheaper EACH than if we fly on 1st July (even on flights that are 12 hours apart!).

Exciting. I have just been invited to Sri Lanka next March so busy busy all round. This is in addition to Pakistan in December plus potentially another visit to Pakistan in April (oops that reminds me haven't asked the boss about that one!) Desperately trying to think how i can get a work trip to Oz - harbour bridge sounds fun :D
