  • Mum & Dad still here & we are all still enjoying each other's company! Dad made an 'alien city' with DS, out of toilet rolls & tissue boxes, & a puppet show theatre out of a big box, with little paper drawings of each member of our family sellotaped to the top! So cute, & DS just loved it.

I've made some yummy meals in my new toy; a slow cooker & pressure cooker that can also fry the food. (Although it's not all that MSE as I had to buy a 2nd one after leaving the lid of the 1st one on the hob too close to a lit flame!!) Tonight it was beef with a tomato pasta sauce that was on offer, with carrot & red pepper, pressure cooked then mashed with a potato masher to hide the veg from the kids! Served with rice & a bit of cheese, & the kids wolfed it down, which always makes me very happy...

Had a really lovely day at the beach with an English girl who's just moved out to Oz with her husband, who is a doctor at my work, & their 3 small children. I only really offered to go over to lend some moral support, as I know how hard it is to move away from everything that's familiar to you, & I didn't try to do it with small kids either! But she was absolutely lovely & we hit it off straight away, so it was a great day. DS & her oldest also got on like a house on fire, which was lovely to watch.

DS is loving kinder. When leaving yesterday, he shouted to another little boy "Bye, brother!" Then he said to me, "I call him brother because I like him"! The highlight however is getting to take his lunch bag with him! He makes his own sandwich (& he's only 4), & he helps to choose what else goes in to his bag, & he loves it.

Excited about watching the new X Files series - they're showing it on tv out here, thank goodness. So far it's been just as good as the original, but why doesn't Gillian Anderson look any different all these years later?? She looks great! (David Duchovny certainly hasn't aged as well!)

Sitting here with Marge Simpson conditioner hair pile-up and bop's and Lady bopsie's fillums and great old enzed memory train-y sounds punching through.
Love the little boy shouting 'I'm winning. I'm winning!' as he races train approaching opposing platform.

    1. Call that ^ no. 1. They are terrific. Did you place yourselves separately at different points in order to capture everything? Really brilliant. Thankyou.
Now I'm getting mystery sounds, rustles, little click or two and 'cos I'm here, don't know what pic is:-). Ah, just hearing distant whistle. Something must be coming.

    2. Spits. Done. Good busy steadily all day. BUT - 2 major breakages happened when woman walloped table. One thing cascaded against other. 'Oh, suppose I'd better buy something' was all she said, sang-froid, unembarrassed, then tried to haggle down a remarkable little piece of prototype silver for enamelling to £10. NO. Banking later, but losses are £260[ early signed, dated Gouda galleried circular tray, stunning Art Deco piece] and £65, but retain the stopper [Geoffrey Baxter blue dimpled decanter. Fabulous thing.]

    3. Alerted to this, have signed and objected. It will make the market impossible.

''Transport for London are proposing to create a night time taxi rank on Commercial Street , between the hours of 7pm and 7 am , at the exclusion of other users . This will have a deleterious effect on the Spitalfields Antiques Market as many of the dealers have to use Commercial street to unload before 7 am . If permissions are granted, the future of the Thursday Market will be in jeopardy as there are already unloading restrictions in place on Lamb St and Brushfield St . The consultation process is until 19th February . Attached is a link to TFL in respect of the application. We would be grateful if you could lend your support in objecting to this proposal, literally a minute survey .''
    https://consultations.tfl.gov.uk/…/commercial-street-taxi-r…

vjm - I'm sure I belt at least 6 miles on a Thursday:-)

    4. Lovely note from daughter of x. I will print more pics of the little birthday nonsense cobbled together for her maman last March.

    5. dd - yes, I laughed at raw swede too, I fear. Had given self courgette, garlic, baked tatoe and little gammon pieces as Spits munch and was glad of it. Soup saved for here. Thermoses don't always retain thick stuff heat for the 22-ish hrs & needs of a jeudi. 'Twas so this time. Lovely drive straight down. M11 access works had moved nearer London[apparently it's been ongoing since Jan '15, N>S]. Back here just after 1 single bell. Slept till nearly 6 and only then counted takings. &'s way.

Just hearing cupidity stupidity of Mr T straightening 'croissants'.
    Look it up, slly peeps.
    http://www.joe.ie/news/tescos-new-croissants-totally-go-against-the-whole-point-of-a-croissant/531677
More shouting on the disaffected cards ce soir - monthly Party mtg :-)
Will I have sufficient left for ruggers demain? Esp. after local-ish jumble elbowing earlier in arvo:-)

Re Croissants - apart from anything, do they not know what "croissant" means? and, i didn't think croissants should be eaten with anything. Perfectly delicious on their own...

Tis easy to walk miles in London, for sure.... Lovely though - people have asked me if I will miss the travelling but london is like a foreign city to me, i can see distinct parallels between it and Singapore (apart from the weather - i will miss that.....)

Also thrilled about the Archers departure (LOL - poet...)
I wanna be in the room where it happens
  • Come on, don't set BoP off!
Croissant: Because the French cannot make jam on toast!

  • 1) Home again after kitten sitting and had 2 x cuppas and lit the fire, found 'my' slippers and got warm, priceless!!!

    2) Phone call this morning from an ecstatic neighbour as her very first grandchild 'little' Henry arrived yesterday at 7lbs 11oz, such a happy thing and such a happy Nanny too! Mum and Henry should be home this evening, much cuddling will be done!

    3) Found that Zebra some smashing socks in a sale this morning.

    4) We visited Slimbridge Wildfowl Trust yesterday, very nice morning out and much to see but think we'll not go in half term again as small and excited people are very noisy and then the birds go away!!!

    5) DD1 brought me back some lovely German herb and spice mixes to liven up our veg and fruit, much appreciated at this time of year when things are not at their freshest and sometimes a little lacking in taste.

    Some pleasures for today,

Another blue sky, sunny kind of day.

Payday :j:j first since 31/10/15 and poor old Georgy-porgy had to give me back some of the tax had paid, good job all those multinationals had paid up what they owed.....oh wait...

Appetite might be coming back, buttered toast and banana for breakfast. Veg soup followed by blueberries and yoghurt for lunch. Two buttered crumpets with afternoon cuppa and have just finished a small, but perfectly formed fish and chip supper. There might also be a bar of GB chocolate calling me from the larder.

Captain Scarlet inadvertently drained my battery by using portable tyre inflator without switching on engine :rotfl: jump leads dear?

Excitement from Cape Town, whoops you missed mate and they even light up, never mind goggle box is back on.

    VJsMum but don't know it

Don't believe the hype folks, whether it's your veg or flaky breakfast pastry have it as bendy as you want.

DD raw swede for lunch, tuna and balsamic in the filing cabinet - waiting with bated breath for No.3 :D. Just curious as to how you mistook a heavy round swede for your packed lunch, unless you were going to take a melon!
Lainey you're not the only one who has some Vicks just waiting to be used. The old remedies are often the best :)
& re the Mr T croissant nonsense, utter carp. As is the proposed taxi rank, hope the plans are dropped.

    1. Decluttering, found some dainty Chinese cups and saucers which will be ideal to use for candle making. Already thinking ahead to the c-word. So not really decluttered at all, just moved them from one place to another :)
    2. Went through the book case, found I have two copies of Feel the Fear so will give one to a friend.
    3. Also found several videos of DS at work on TFI Friday, he was part of the security team who escorted the guests. Will take them to him next month, he can show the DGC what he looked like all those years ago. When he had hair :p
    4. The remote key wouldn't lock the car yesterday so I phone and electrical tech who makes home visits. He found the problem before he got out of his van. Last night I took the shopping from the back seat and closed the door with my, umm...posterior. Except that the door didn't close fully, hence the car wouldn't lock. He kindly only charged me a fiver for his diesel but I gave him 10 for his trouble. He drove away leaving one very red faced sparrer on the doorstep :o
    5. Don't think I'll be the only one who will list this - Gogglebox. Glad to have it back

    Sweet dreams :)

Our half term day out today! Here are my pleasures:

    1) A good sleep.

    2) Off to Birmingham on the train(s), all of which were on time.

    3) First to the Bull Ring so smaller son could look round the Apple shop. Then lunch at the noodle bar.

    4) Botanical Gardens next and sons made friends with a large white parrot which took sticks through the bars from them solemnly then bit them to pieces!

    5) An hour at Autism West Midlands in the sensory room.

    6) Back into city centre for HEMA, wandering around and a sandwich.

    7) Went swimming with sons and my brother at 8pm - bit tired by then!

    8) Enjoyed Gogglebox and also the Last Leg.

    9) Bed now with 2 hwb and ready to listen to whatever it is on radio 4 on Friday nights now - Now Show or News Quiz.....?
