  • And another to those that need it more than others! :heartpuls

5 Still got a Monk on. BoPsie, is gloating like a laughing hyena. Not only that, but she got VIBE, when BoP was covering it for later. Not a happy hector! She is only one win away from winning two on the bounce! Needless to say, I told her to swing instead of playing Backgammon!

4 And it got worse than that. BoPsie, who normally needs a glass of two of whine to warm up, then got the thirst answer on Uni Challenge right as well. Seems this morning her nose is rather glowing with how much it has been grazed over the evening! Still not a happy hector.

3 At least at breakfast BoP managed to pop new tub of jam, and spread proper butter on toast and get away with it. Other spreads are available. Please don't listen to that Jimmy cook on the box and his tax on sugar. Jam is good for you. Rubs Tum.

2 Night BoP will be listening to a live broadcast from south London as the Mariners take another step on the rush to join DD's team. UTM

The committee still has not noticed the empty bread basket!
The people are not suffering enough yet to bloody care!
  • 1) Had my hair cut this morning, new hairdresser as my usual little girl is expecting her first baby in early March and found the new girl just as nice and easy to talk to as Gemma!

    2) Visit to Mottisfont Abbey at Romsey with my friend Sue to an exhibition of Thelwell Original paintings of his cartoons, particularly the pony ones with Penelope. much giggling, such fun.

    3) The river Test runs through the Abbey grounds and is carpeted with snowdrops on both banks, white as far as the eye could see and so very pretty.

    4) We had a cuppa in the Cafe that is in the old undercroft of the original Abbey and found they have an indoor water wheel that turns a roasting spit hanging in front of a massive cast iron range in the original kitchen, still working today, magic!

    5) Found a book in their second hand bookshop that I've been searching for over the years, I have the first volume already so now can read a cracking good yarn from start to finish, super stuff!

Good morning , it's Wednesday! Just starting to get light, I think I will be walking up to train station in the dark again in the next couple of weeks.....whilst I'm desperate for the intense of heat of summer to be over , I will miss the light mornings .

Today we have hospital ( ....tomorrow , we also have hospital!) so I'm having an extra 5 minutes before I need to get up and rush around making sure everyone's up, fed, dog walked before we head into the city.

    My Tuesday pleasures included :

A nice chat with friend from home.

Lunch date with my eldest daughter, which was nice, brought home my leftovers for sons lunch....as I'm nice like that!

We then did the grocery shop together and then it was all put away by them. As they are nice like that! Aided and abetted by Haggis the sniffer dog.....who has to check every bag ( usually as you are carrying it with his head stuck in) that comes in his house!

Received my gas bill.....played guess the gas bill with the big 2 and we were all wrong! A nice summer gas bill when all its been doing is heating water for showers. I've been putting money aside each week to take the sting out of bills. ( we don't seem to do direct debits as much here as we did in UK)

I too had a snoozette skint , though mine was rudely cut short by DD2 texting me repeatedly. Ping, ping, ping ,ping! She just wanted to let me know she was staying on at school library to study. I usually have a wee snooze on my afternoons off, just a restorative half hour! Funny that I don't feel the need on a working day .

Made fish pie for those that like fish ( not I) some leftovers for OHs dinner tonight.

Then had to dash up to school for parents meeting. DD2 has just started in her final 2 years at school where the ultimate goal is a decent ATAR score that decides your future! It's such a complicated system and even third time round I still despair at it. Subjects are marked 'up' or 'down' as they see fit. So you might get 75% in drama but that would be marked down to 68% as its thought to be an easier subject. You may get 75% in a specialist maths class but that would be marked up to 85% as its a hard subject!
They are assessed in class exams over next 2 years and these marks are used and totalled together with their final exams scores ....yet these are all tallied together with everyone else in Victoria doing the same exam on the same day and an average percentage is given in your final ATAR score.
Your ATAR score determines what tertiary education is available to you and so much pressure is put on these kids .
DD2's mentor at school is very nice and we had a good discussion about her potential. I am wary of putting too much academic pressure on her and think she may struggle with the intensity the next 2 years brings......( been there done that and may well get a teeshirt third time round) however, this school , will offer so much more support to her than previous one would have done. Take a day at a time Mhags!

Home and pancake time! Just with strawberry jam on mine. Lovely!

I am giving up sugar ( sigh! Again!) for lent but shall have a cake when it's DD2's birthday and had included mine in that proviso then realised easter is before my birthday this year!

Right, let my day begin :)

Some pleasures for the last couple of days,

Have made it through first two days of new job, the new computer systems, trying to understand how everything works and where it all fits into my job.

The journey isn't too bad, avoid the A14 like the plague as can't stand the bloomin thing so go through horsey town and out the other side.

Coming home both nights to find that Captain Scarlet had not only done housework but also tackled mount Ironmore AND had evening meal ready, including pancakes tonight, good man.

Further payment from my insurance company means even less left to pay for remainder of Bill's bill, bank account must be breathing sigh of relief.

After only two days am so, so looking forward to my day off tomorrow, oh the joys of part time work :)

    MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025
    25 for 25: 371 / 625
    declutter: 173 / 2025
    frogs eaten: 10
  • The water lift on the canal, the top car always has more water than the lower car, that way it can revolve by gravity!

5 And the Mariners romp on. DD, BoP thinks that the glass is half full, so unless we leap, it will be another season apart!

4 Just popped out to get fish supper, well lunch as it is cheaper at lunch. Rubs Tum. Fill BoP motor up with petrol, and went to counter to pay. £46 please. Eh, no, more like £20! Counter assistant was made to check. No worry, as BoP was correct. Had to pay manually. Keeping receipt just in case, you never know.

3 Wonder how many actually know what they are paying for in the thirst plaice! Makes you wander. BoPsie was pondering as well. Oh well, guess it is just jam tart time instead.

2 Night we will have to be readied for FiL, otherwise we will get the posh 1954-55 season signed print out again next time we go round. Oh well, a football theme.

The problem with the wheel is that it is a water lossless system!

Purple kitten - Costco pizza is potent temptation. Turning mattresses is Definitely Exercise. The oriental supermarket sounds incredible - Happy New Year *and* Pancake Day! Your garden is *full* of bird life (had to look up dunnet!) "90mins later I certainly didn’t believe them" - love it! Bird table wok - genius! Much cookery is experimentation - you just channeled your Inner Heston. Congratulations on "clean but lived in" which we're trying for before grandparents visit. Just requires painting...
Frith - kievs beans & couscous sounds fine to me, I suspect "everything sensible" varies from home to home! Last leg in Australia great fun. Well done on all the paperwork, hurrah dad's hand healing & do try (at least walk around) the supermarket. (My lads love ours as they go & wave to the crabs.) Spring cleaning already, or just as the opportunity presents? Had to take a lesson, or at least start one?! Blimey! Flanders? Gosh. Worth the swimming?! Himself had the wrong day all day (& night) too - happily the lads sorted that and got to school anyway. Cauli cheese & pasta sounds great, must try it on the chaps. Bigger son has own shed & cooks tea using camping supplies - brilliant! Chinese New Year always fun.
kittikins - I'm glad your mum is on the mend & your Head so supportive! Even 'just' a chip means fuss - hope your dad is coping, your mum recovering & that you don't trip on anyone's crutches! Hurrah for dogwalking teenagers, netball coaches & folk who cheer us up! Good luck with mum's triumphant return tomorrow & class *will* welcome you back in their own unique way...
mhagster - rain or no rain, back to school has to be good news. The routine! Comfortable as a well adjusted huggy jacket. Son looking rather handsome? Girlfriends have their moments! Go Andy! [Ooops.] Glad you've a break from newish lady & awed husband making Spag Bol! School restarting does mean washing machine needs to as well, alas. Giving away wedding presents - can see both sides. All for a lively PTA! Delayed op for OH - argh! Holding you all in my thoughts. Hurrah all home & escorted by hot air balloons - surely a benevolent omen? All the very best with school & the infamous ATAR, but better school & third time's the charm?
LaineyT - hadn't occurred to me stray clipped hairs could wander but recently clipped son did leave the carpet in a state for days. Reduced sugar Lift lemon tea & your mum with homemade shortbread? Hurrah! Dogs coping? Congrats on new wardrobe & galanga a respected cold buster as ginger type spice. Well done surviving first days & new systems & where you fit & hurrah Captain Scarlet - housework and ironing *and* evening meal?! <swoon!>
Mrs LW - happy birthdays to all & love "pushycat" - one of our kittens got named "Pushka". Hurrah blood test over as share your views on cup of hot water! Good on Zebra properly using table & chairs even if His table, not the expected one. 35 species in flower?! Awed at your knowledge & their daftness as to weather. And at how you can reel off & spell those players! Ah, the first cup of the day. A very special pleasure. Think I heard Tonga playing at Murrayfield during great aunt's funeral - groans definitely added to our event. To travel (& see family & hear swing in cathedral) is grand - to return home is bliss. Watching some birds soar in the wind & others, not - yes I'd be chortling too! Real Thelwell?! Plans field trip to Romsey as both boatie & horsey types deftly skewered - j'adore!
DundeeDoll - you may be moving? I adore Les Liaisons - not just as the film was *so* gloriously costumed (& Malkovitch, hmmmn) but also the characters... La Traviata when in Venice? Wow! Cathedral closed as shedding masonry? Eeep! Bowie night sounds very special (& lish). Free tea & coffee so you refilled cup in advance of next meeting? Brilliant! Love son's perspective on co-op savings! All confidence you helped colleague, & hooray cracking good match. Rentokil for the porch you never liked anyway? All good luck and hope they divert a bit of Earth core towards heating!
BoP - must try film night & love the REM Sig. Reckon we may yet get Sunday back as a Non Trading day? Sticky wings with black treacle? Oooh... Ah, Uni Challenge - hurrah they've stuck to a solid format. Live Scrabble to Reverberations - that's a good combination. No Fridge? Blimey, but you are evidence it works! Another B&W stunner. Rita via flick prime app, eh? Bread queues a storm panic response, yes? Christmas pud in February?! (Whyever not?) Can almost taste the curry over the electrons... Proper butter - that's our BoP, reliable priorities.
sparrer - as a Cornishwoman's daughter, I share your pain at that meat pie. Victorian jelly mould collector? China, copper? A Vibrating plate sounds virtuous & as for clearing under the stairs!
villagelife - attagirl proofreading - a true act of love! Aww - helpful chooks. Hope your dad's pills work and well done getting a load onto the line & back in dry! Mending doesn't always take long but does depend on mood a bit.
ampersand - the things I learn from your links! All love & health to Uncle, and all power to elbow with lemons & Sevilles. Coren pere still revered & missed, daughter observed with cautious awe.
Mrs m - snowdrops & seed catalogues are special pleasures. Garden planning - get dwarf rootstock & enjoy whatever fruit you want! Life need not be Standard. [MrsLW spot on!] It's the pollination group you want to watch. See this lot? (Happy customer.) Then Which Apple? I'm enjoying semi light too!
VJsmum - hurrah hearing PhD start up & wow Dad apologise! Yikes - MIL improving? Hurrah reading another PhD & deciding you can do better! John Finnemore's souvenir programme - now located on iplayer - thank you!MIL compos mentis & colleague being coaxed over to the PhD side with shrewd email links? Splendid! PhDblog sounds very good idea, daughter=chaos & disruption (yes, it's a double X Chromosome thing, I believe) & love the such filthy weather may as well mark! MIL recovered enough to be optimistic? All strength!
judi - these rotten bugs! Still, toast & coffee and shopping Done by 10 is Wow!
Skint yet Again - sounds like a good wedding & DS coped. Welcome to the fun world of the iphone! Horrified DS shocked by incident but relieved he gets both professional care & hugs. Awed at line dried laundry & batch cooking, just careful with voice! Afternoon naps only sensible to fight off stinking cold!
mcculloch - very good to see you again & the varied timings of folk add to the rhythm of the board. (My excuse, anyway!) Sundried tomato on tortillas to make pizza? Genius idea!
beluga - welcome & well done on the manicure - wonderful what a seemingly small pick-me-up can do!

    OS pleasures recently
I gather Colleen intends to eat her placenta. Fair enough. My imagination is struggling (hugely) with Wayne trying to cook it. Will she hand him a refrigerator bag to take to the cook whilst she & newborn bond? [Yes - a specialist collected it to chop it, dehydrate it & grind the remains then encapsulate them. Ye Gods. What was wrong with a frying pan? She wanted sushi…]

"I'm disappointed in humanity. It hasn't turned out the way I expected." He's 14...!

Watching a fitness enthusiast running up & down steps that are part of the city landscaping & exchanging furtive bemused grins with another commuter clutching his Gregg's breakfast....

After an anxious day & night without the house cat (spooked off by sister's visiting Labradors), the cries of heartfelt relief are to be heard counties away. "Love & butter all round!"

Maybe it's chilly in there or maybe he's just back in from a good lunch, but the tailor is wearing a jacket over his usual shirt & looking a credit to his craft.

So proud of cousin who, despite her zero hours contract, took the overnight coach down from Edinburgh to see & learn to use an amphibious dredger at a conservation site in Oxford before getting another coach back to her Saturday morning shift.

"I am a young man full of, wossnames", "inarticulate moments?", "yeah, them". Ye gods, his IQ varies with blood sugar.

"I'm not going to Buy any books, I've got a Pirate for a mother!" Son is setting up the kindle app on his tablet... Whole family laughed at the appellation but I don't pirate. I exchange.

Investigating under the stairs & grinning at souvenir ethanol from honeymoon. Plus emptying various long-past-drinkable beers down sink. [Smell, even to young noses was "just Wrong, mum"]

Dear gods. In order to paint the lad's room, we had to search the front room, so we got a tip trip as well finding new duvets.

Godfather sent us a photo of a tank modelled full size in snow. Turns out, this is a major Russian hobby in the colder areas, competitive and this years "world of tanks" prizewinners were a Siberian grandson & two teams from Russian jails.

Listening to Janet & John segueing straight into Human Fertilisation & Embryology Authority news - the pleasure was undoubtedly in the mental "eh?" - ah Wogan, bless the man, rest the man.

Uni flatmate now a Dr & has invited me to the Ceremonies. Huge vicarious pride, already bought the thermal underclothing & other guest bodes well for gossip & merry cheering on. Now, where to park for Chester Cathedral?!

"Do I read 'A Tale of Two Cities' by Charles Darwin, or Cadfael?" He looked a bit bemused as we whooped with laughter, but these bearded Victorians are interchangeable, up to a point....

Ran an eye over the Cherry trees & yes! There are buds! Thickly wrapped, but little pointy nuggets of promise.

The lad we studied with the curiosity, enthusiasm & intrigued bafflement worthy of David Attenborough has made it to 17!

Eavesdropping on tea point chat - it's quite endearing hearing the interviewers discussing the difficulties they have.

I have seen the dead walk! Or a dashed close facsimile - son shambling towards parent one boot on, one in hand.

Oh Dear. In my enthusiasm to get out of the wind, I "tailgated" (well, tailed) a chap indoors before donning my ID pass & it seems I've inadvertently landed him in hot water as the building is supposed to be on Higher Security. Obviously bundled for travel I didn't appear A Potential Threat, but...

Chuckling with a colleague over digital by default & will future doors be automated & then (this being our department) how they will go wrong. We shouldn't be measured on positivity - a cheerful grumble helps!

Child sighing with relief as new clippers buzz. It's remarkable what £10's worth of Wahl technology can do & we reckon the previous clippers saved us nearly £2K in haircuts....

I think Winter has arrived. My fingers are purple & I'm wearing the woolly beanie under my hood to stay warm & dry. A biker colleague has got a pair of latex gloves to wear under his gauntlets!

Great big hugs to all who need them, restored health to all feeling less than Spring-y and all those who love & care for them, and focus on the miracles that are snowdrops?
  • 1) 1t's past 5 o'clock and it's still LIGHT!!!

    2) Walking Cookie along the lanes this afternoon I saw a Roe Buck standing in a field looking intently at something and then it stamped it's feet and jumped forwards and from very close to it a big old fox made a dash for the hedgerow. Roe Buck stood 'to attention' looking after the fox for a couple of minutes then ambled off into the woods, Magic!!!

    3) Veg topped up this morning after a trip to Lidl, we've been living on fridge ends for the past few days so nice to have some fresh produce for a change.

    4) He Who Knows has processed another batch of firewood this afternoon, the to do pile is smaller and the to burn pile is visibly bigger, bring on the snow!

    5) Weather forecast is for it to be substantially colder from now to the end of February even down here in Hampshire, am I odd to be looking forward to frosty mornings and dragons breath?
  • 1. I had my final interview today and it all went very well, but I was slightly disheartened to hear that they have second interviews through to next Monday. I would rather be the last interviewed than the first, too much time to forget. Fingers crossed for next week, still applying for other things just in case.:j
    2. Was pleasantly surprised by caf! bill as only had tea but spent time inside in the warm calming before the interview.:o
    3. Amazingly stormy sky, very eye-catching black skies and sun reflecting on the trees.
    4. Meal planning tonight from the freezer, marinated chop, new spuds and broccoli.
    5. Relaxing evening, with a film yet to be found on player.
