    Good evening everyone :hello:

ampersand - a very, very interesting article. Thank you for sharing it. Quite poignant too.

Our topic at school is World War II. Having just looked at The Diary of Anne Frank, I introduced the idea of the concentration camp through this interesting video: Train into Auschwitz. The look of horror on the children's faces and the discussion of why it happened etc was worthwhile, even if it made me feel VERY uncomfortable. Of course, the discussion around Remembrance Day and why etc, was poignant. Not a pleasure, but the opening of children's minds was priceless.

    However, there were pleasures:

    1) Headteacher and one of the governors visited my class whilst I was teaching the above. Apparently they went away absolutely buzzing with praise and commented that I was very passionate about the topic.

    2) NPD

    3) NSD

    4) Spanish Chicken dish from the Hairy Dieters for supper. Lovely, as ever!

    5) HM soup for lunch again. Which is a good point - I wonder whether I have one left to defrost for tomorrow! Fingers crossed...

    4. No rain. And seeing the lovely autumn colours.
    5. Talking through things with ds2 after an argument at dinner.

    Pleasures for today (Tuesday)

    1) Not a bad sleep.

    2) Training day all day at work. Was quite interesting and a nice lady taking the course, which is good as she will be back frequently over the next 12 months!

    3) Let brother's dog out on my way home (rest of family is in Cornwall). Also went round with sons at 7.30 to let him out again and he is the saddest dog in the country :-( Sons wanted him to come home with us but I've tried that before and he refuses to settle (even to sit down!) but stands looking at me. Pleasures is that all poultry etc are still alive at this point.

    4) Left a message for solicitor from 10 years ago (!) - not my good one. Trying still to get paperwork in order for the possible new mortgage.

    5) Made apples with mincemeat.

    6) Watched Holby City.

    7) 2 from smaller son today. He was talking at great length about the Goonies, except he didn't get the word Goonies right and was calling it a rather rude word that is also used in cricket... so I explained why the word was wrong and he said, "Oh great, I've told everyone at school that my favourite film is about the testicles!" :-D
Then he was complaining about his spelling and that he wrote a long piece at school about Remembrance Day and the poppy appeal except "I spelled it poopy 20 times. The poopy appeal...."

Ha, Frith - your smaller son's comments did make me laugh.

    Some pleasures for yesterday

    1. Bought big bag of bird food plus some peanuts so feathered friends are set up for colder months.
    2. Rearranged our (very small) office so that desk faces the window, can now see top of the Poplar trees when sitting down,
    3. Little dog patiently sat on my lap and let me de-tangle her ears, being a spaniel they take up far bit of her body mass and coat shedding always leads to tangles.
    4. Cider sausage casserole for tea, finished rest of said bottle of cider, perk of being the chef.
    5. How warm and cosy it made me feel listening to the wind blowing outside bedroom window, mind Abigail is due to make appearance over next couple of days, batten down those hatches.
  • 1) Home made goulasch soup for lunch today, very yummy!

    2) Unexpected phone call from a long time MSE friend that I'd only ever messaged before, we're going to have a meet up in the not too distant, I've missed her posts!!!

    3) Quiz night with my brother and his wife, been a long time since we went so looking forward to it lots.

    4) Ironing and putting away the ironed clothes, just love it, I know I'm sad!

    5) Some lovely leeks and parsnips from the allotment, He Who Knows does grow us nice things.
  • 1. Popped to the hospital and all done fast.
    2. Changed all the fleece ferret beds and put the other load on to soak.
    3. Resisted the urge to go out and continued the office tidying as it’s starting to make a difference.
    4. Cooked up lunch a lovely egg and cheese roll in seeded lidl rolls was delicious.:o
    5. When I was shut in the office I heard a tap tap at the office door and it was one of the fuzzies begging to play, which was a lovely distraction.:rotfl:
    6. I read Martins weekly email and ordered one of the free personalised posters, had I not told DH about it, it could have been part of the Christmas present doh!!!:)
    7. Spent time creating dinner mash and veggies with grilled pork and a pepper sauce, did I mention I am enjoying having the time.:D

    Pleasures for today

    1. Frith - your smaller son's poopy appeal made me smile :D

    2. took the day off work as the car was in the garage

    3. nice lie in

    4. bacon and egg sarnie for brunch

    5. phoned DVLA all fired up to complain re letter received stating theres a 9 week wait/delay for DS to have his medical renewal reviewed ..... only to be told it was all authorised and released today :j
Was so relieved I could have cried. Have had sleepless nights as he starts his new job next week which is 70 miles away by car. Have been in a bit of a daze since. Part of me almost thinks its too good to be true but apparently he can view the new licence online after 48 hours

    6. slept for 2 hours this afternoon

    7. weeded the forecourt as I could see the weeds through the bay window :o

    8. car cost £131 but is now fixed - replacement breather pipe (?) cost £12.29 the rest was labour (cleaning the throttle body which had filled with oil (?) and vat !! But it did get a free wash (I don't wash my car just rely on the rain) and hoover and it was delivered back to me at home. I may be skint but I can sit at home and look at it sat there gleaming outside.

    9. sunny blowy day, got some washing dried on the line

    10. Cats cradle and DVD's for DS's stocking arrived from @mazon. Bagpuss if you are reading it wasn't a book as such just a card which opened out with instructions - was ok for 99p

Hoping for more good news tomorrow - I find out whether I will still have a job after 27 years and if its our area office which is to close..... fingers crossed x

Just in - Lainey, avoid town of horse if you can atm. Had to quench little orange light. Emporium is a morgue 'cos of roadworks, but this did mean........

    1. .....naughty things, good things, good4& but naughty things, naughty4& but good things, all reduced, all over shop to 15 or fewer pence. inc.- CHOCOLATE CAKE, salmon fillets, edamame, multi-seedy baguettes, chelsea buns, gorgeous endive and romaine and little gems, courgettes, clementines. Shedloads more, can't remember right now. Most being shared, which is a true statement.:A-moi:p

    2. & deep-mined AB attitude/tactics/reserves hier to yield RWC-matching result:-)
All via npd: buspass ex.village, busway ditto, Huntingdon and St Ives emporium trackdowns of Last Day of 1/2-price special crimbo fun tins.
They'll head to enzed/France/Spain soon enough. Wonderful scene-stunning journey day for gazing out and around with extra sense of achievement, seeing llamas, herons, fox en route, topped by meeting Malcolm Guite at final bus wait. We both realised we were recognising each other out of place/context.

    3. Early a.m. delivering of deiberately late birthday bits to neighbour, her first as a widow. All good and just right. Pics taken. Ink has run out on no.3, but rest done @MrT ce soir, from whom I absolutely recommend humungous bargain of Rubens apples@69p, normally £2. Divine crunch, taste, keepers, excellent all ways up.

    4. Picking up on Luke Hurley's new music, jamming around in recording studio
    'October Sessions at the Roundhead'.

Lo! and behold - lovely x boards, the rugby-mum-of-3 Priest-in-training[with remarkable hinterland story] currently near-ish, invited to return for fully-funded Master's and already looking to PhD when children are through school, in about 10-12 years. Should still be in next June's Parish curacy>vicar in a glorious off-beaten-track
place, coincidentally known to &when small persons were of similar ages. Fantastic conversation and looking at her marvellous pics. & tends to post rugby discussion letters to sons, pass on enzed AB relly bits, as in wee small hours of 1 Nov. Wonder why?:p
    Managed not to miss stop:T

    Good evening everyone :hello:

Observed the two minute silence in my Maths lesson today and had a good discussion about why we remember - and who.

    Pleasures:

    1) My student loan has been paid off! Only 14 years after graduating from my first degree (then on hold whilst I was training to be a teacher 10 years ago!) and it's all gone! Yippee!! Now to be sensible with the "extra" each month.

    2) My brother's old cat, whom we thought had died 4+ years ago, has turned up at my brother's old house! The new tenants have been feeding him for a few months, but he's feral (cat, not my brother :D) now and missing an eye. They're going to try to tame him (Gordon, named after the Sydney suburb) and adopt him as their own, which my brother is delighted about. Honestly, when Gordon went missing my brother was truly devastated. As DH said, it's the first (and last) time he'd ever seen my brother cry when Gordon went missing.

    3) Small amount of money payable from TopCashback. Duly transferred into my special savings.

    4) NSD

    5) NPD

    6) Freezer nearly empty from doing the store cupboard/freezer challenge.
