Hello all, have caught up with your pleasures.
LaineyT, Skinty and Lfs, hope things improve, but it is so frustrating when it's outside one's control, Mrs LW thank you so much, I found a recipe for Crecy Pie here,

Judy24, that's how I feel too about this late autumn almost winter but not yet period.
    VJsmum, yippee skippee, PhD!
DD, so glad things have improved a bit, Frith, hope they stay improved . Mhags, thank you for October. Enjoyed the experiences you shared.
Ampersand, I can remember reading the Wind in the Willows when I was a bit too young to really appreciate it, and being very confused by the Piper at the Gates of Dawn. I really must re-read it.
DfV, impressed with wheelbarrow rescue and so much else, I love reading of your bits and pieces.
BoP, not much French Noel here but plenty of German Weihnachten, when the season comes, .
    PK hope job offer materialises.
Get well soon/hope recovery continues to all those who have not been well - VickyA, Villagelife and any others.

Three good friends of mine have lost close relatives in the last 12 days, so that has been a bit sobering, then a former regular at the live music club lost his battle with cancer this week.

I just fielded a call from one of the friends about funeral clothes.
She is a lot younger than me, inbetween my two children in age, I got to know her through work.
She is lucky enough to have got this far in life without much experience of funerals, but we had a quick chat about what would be most suitable for her to wear.

    Lots of pleasures
1 A great EP CD from one of the club regulars,
    2 Freebies
3 Unexpected drop in visits from friends,
4 Tasty economical recipes on the menu and more lined up to try.
    5. I recorded Autumnwatch and will watch that sometime.

    6. Got paid this week which was a relief as it was held up, no proper explanation but a reassurance from higher up honcho that any future re-occurance will be promptly acted on. I am paid on 30 day terms, which this month were 36 days, it isn't just politics where a week is a long time. I emailed the higher up honcho that Accounts and myself would have to differ on what constitutes 30 days settlement...

Now back to work, and good to have it!
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.
  • 1) A lovely walk in the rain with the hound this afternoon, more drizzle than rain but so beautifully warm and really nice to be out in.

    2) The fireworks that have been on and off all evening, I'm enjoying the show!

    3) An unexpected contact from a friend, so I know she's OK.

    4) A lovely baked apple for pud this evening, so tasty.

    5) DD1 sending me a video of the local fireworks display where she lives, complete with sounds, bless her, it's good to share she says!

LFS and Skinty - sorry to hear of troubles, heads up lovelies
PK - fingers crossed you are successful

    Some pleausures for today

Wild and woolly weather, watched and worried for the beech trees as they bent in the wind, lost a few branches but still standing.

HM parsnip and apple soup for lunch, yum.

Time spent with my boy, snug and warm in his stable, he has a new friend next door, big grey, handsome chap.

Sneaky little glass of Sauvignon and some silly games of Yahtzee, win some, lose some.

Just stepped outside to let Tilly-Lou out and the sky has cleared, stars are out, clouds blown away.
    Night all, sweet dreams xx

Quick pleasures for yesterday and today:

    Friday

    1) Not a bad sleep.

    2) Not a bad day at work.

    3) Sons went out role playing with brother and brother in law. They are training a wolf and a weasel (not in real life!)

    4) Enjoyed Gogglebox.

    5) News Quiz

    Today

    1) A lie in - hoorah! Smaller son slept until 9.30.

    2) Sons off to their father's but have had some phone calls and 1 Skype call.

    3) Did 3 loads of washing and changed the beds. Nearly all put away now.

    4) Went to Ludlow and picked up my 40th birthday ring after it was mended. Not very impressed with the mending as it looks like something Jeremy Clarkson would do with a large hammer. :-/ I seem to be destined to part with cash only for people not to do very good jobs!

    5) Had a look round the charity shops and got the next in the series of bedtime stories. Smaller son asked me to get a copy of Private Peaceful (his class are reading it at school) so I found that and also got a book to put away for Christmas about a cat with the same name he has!

    6) Went to Berrington Hall (NT) for a cup of tea and as a list ditch attempt to get a birthday present for my friend whose birthday was last Wednesday. She is a bit hard to buy for. I had half thought about earrings and in the NT shop was a display from a local silversmith, with explanations on how the interior of Berrington had influenced the enamelwork! So that was that present found.

    7) Stopped on the way home solely to get Welsh cakes. All the cakes were from the Welsh bakery (i.e packaging in Welsh) but they had run out of actual Welsh cakes.

    8) Went swimming with my brother.

    9) Pie and chips from the van.

    10) Watched Dr Who.

    11) Made sloe gin and crab apple jelly. Jelly is hanging from a beam in the living room over night, tied in a pillowcase.

    12) In bed and about to watch HIGNFY.

    Had a good day.

    1. Met a friend for coffee. We hadn't seen each other for a month so had a long chat and put the world to rights.

    2. Started making Christmas decorations - drying orange and lemon slices as I had some fruit past its best.

    3. Chat with DS2 and he says he's managing his money better than he has been which is good news.

    4. Met a friend in London for a meal to celebrate his 60th birthday. It was a lovely evening and it was a warm (for November) evening to wander round and see the sights.

    5. Briefly met a friend at the station where he had just met his son and baby granddaughter. It was lovely seeing them.

Evening all, the sun has been shining today however I was at work for most of the sunshine. Was a cool start at 7o at 6.30am

Niece sent me a photo of great niece having baked cakes.....so I sent one back of my baking this morning! Tiny cupcakes with pink/ blue sparkles!

I've ordered my Christmas gifts for me from Cath Kidston, in the sale.

Nice customer brought me in another magazine .

Shall carry a few pleasures over for another day! Never that many on a worky weekend!
  • And look, in two weeks it is time to eat into BoP's holiday pot!

5 Visited a store yesterday, to collect some juice. Well, there was no food there, some spuds, onion. Carrots. Everything else was pre-ordained items, from garish yellow battered steam extracted meat items, to prefabricated burgers. Two bottles of juice collected. This mourning in emporium, not the one where they claim to give instant refunds, BoP got shop in for less than £30 again! And some are already clearing shelves of items for the extraction of money event coming up.

4 Today BoP finished off the Jam Roly Poly, with lumpy custard! And country cottage pie, prepared some time ago. With door stop carrots, peas, cabbage, and spinach. Toe nail onions. Lovely. BoPsie is now washing up!

3 Not only that, but also had marmite cheese crackers this morning!

2 Watched the festival last night. Was asked today why BoP does not stand at the memorial. BoP does not associate with self ingratiating politico likes. They do nothing for you. Put TVs on this day, stuck on last channel, some politico from Bristol area has been made some Lord! He was going to auction some trousers for charity. Not that it would help those in his previous ward! Remembered Grandfather BoP's village, no memorial. They were refused permission in the 20's.

    And in the morning.

Pleasures for today, before sons come home.

    1) A lie in!

    2) Sainsburys

    3) Finished crab apple jelly.

    4) Tidied up and ordered Christmas cards.

    5) Going swimming later.

    6) Avoiding the monsoon out there at the moment. There was so much rain it flooded under the door of the porch and leaked through the roof too! So the shoes are drying by the stove now.

Evening all - I think it's gone wine o'clock

    Pleasures for yesterday

1 did some work on the train - getting through another batch of marking
2 dad wasn't as bad as I feared. He is going to hospital tomorrow to have his leg ulcers scanned and is frightened that they will keep him in (posters of long standing might remember he was in hospital for 6 months three years ago, so it's understandable). However a brilliant nurse came in and explained everything to him and said that they don't keep anyone in the days unless they are truly ill(which he doesn't appear to be)
3 had eff and c for lunch
4 saw my girl for dinner at wagamamas. Lovely to see her, it was the first time since she went back for the term
5 went to see the sea, has to be done even if just for 5 mins. It was blowing a hoolie, but I am loving this autumn weather

    And today

1 managed to sleep till 7.30 - which was about 9 hours sleep. I think I am still catching up the jetlag
2 been sorting /kondoing paperwork, got distracted by photos. You can certainly lose a long time looking at photos
3 did some baking, I love baking. Made mincemeat flapjacks
4 OH had already cooked tonight s tea - beef in end wine
5 looking forward to the last downton later. It will be a relief...
I wanna be in the room where it happens
  • 1) Putting the new mattresses on the bed and finding they fit!!! then laying on my side and finding they are lovely and firm and supporting, looking forward to much better sleeps from now on.

    2) A lovely walk this afternoon with Cookie, Charlie retriever and his Mum putting the world to rights and not getting rained on for a change.

    3) Bumping into my brother and finding he and my lovely sister in law want to come to the pub quiz this week, looking forward to that lots as it's been a while since we went.

    4) Great news from Charlies Mum that her little granddaughter who is only just 4 and started school in September has finally settled in, she hated it like poison for the first few weeks but has now won 'writer of the week' and 'best reader in class' for the past three weeks plus being given a certificate for being the best worker in class last week, she's a good girl.

    5) More good news from Charlies Mum is that her daughter who teaches PE has been promoted to deputy in her department and had a pay rise too, well done that girl as well!
