Quick pleasures for today:
1) A good sleep because the phone ran out of charge so the alarm didn't go off! Woke at 7.40, the exact time smaller son has to get in his taxi. :-/
2) Not a bad day at work. I thought one young charge was going to attack me (he seemed to be aiming for my eye) but he carefully removed a small spider from my hair!
3) Finally got the boot load of firewood from the car and stacked it either side of the stove.
4) Tidied up the garden and swept up tonnes of leaves.
5) Downhill neighbour passed by as I was sweeping and she's given me the go ahead to get the top few metres lopped off Massive Tree. It is in her garden but would crash through my house if felled during a storm...
6) While floor was dirty from traipsing in and out with logs, emptied bins. Then hoovered and steam mopped floors, did washing, tidied etc.
7) Roast pork for tea with potatoes and carrots. Then the apple strudel from yesterday for tea. One day over BB date but we're still here...
8) Read a bit more story to smaller son in bed. I was teetering on the edge (hard to sit on a bottom bunk bed) and he shifted his legs and I fell off onto the floor! I did a gentle roll, but still bashed my elbow.
9) In bed now with 2 hwb and Holby City.0 -
Tis almost bedtime for me. I'm on day 3 of very mild labyrinthitis and find its worst in morning and then again in evening so I've just decided to head to bed.
I had a lovely last day off ( next weeks are hospital days ) and feel rather accomplished.
Absolutely lashing with rain this morning ...Mr Dog did not want to go out ...so I was like a daftie in my jammies out in the rain!
Miss DD2 was chauffeur driven to school by me in my jammies! Muuuuuuum, can you please run me to school ( it was lashing !) it's literally a 90 second drive . Drop off and back home in less than 5 minutes....no one has seen me in my jammies yet.
Washed my new to me bedside cabinets and moved old tables out the way....Aaah so that's where me little diamond earrings were! Foot cream.....? Turfed! Magazines ....in a pile for salvos. Hoovered more dust than could be healthy to sleep next to!
Went out with DD1. First of all we went to bank where she got a pre-loaded bank card for her Europe trip ( 4 weeks away) , then she spent the remains of a voucher before it runs out at weekend. Then we shared a tuna sandwich for lunch. Then we bought a huge clock for my kitchen using vouchers from a loyalty card I had....'twas a bit of an ordeal trying to redeem them but we got there in the end. Then we took stuff to car...oh look the rain had stopped ... Then we bought strawberries, blueberries and carrot sticks and went to cinema . This felt rather decadent on a Thursday afternoon. I had 2 x $9 ( usually $22) vouchers to use by Sunday. She bought the fruit and water ( shines sugar free November halo) and I paid for tickets. We watched Burnt and I rather enjoyed it. There was us and 3 others in the whole cinema.
Then we came out and it was boiling hot , a really intense heat that hadn't been there before....so it seems we had a nearby tornado and storm whilst we were in cinema. I just wondered why there was so much tree detritus on street and driveway when I drove home.
Made the most delicious chicken pie I've ever made . With roast sweet potato and potato, carrots, cabbage and broccoli topped with cheese sauce made with last bit of English cheese. Scrummy!
Our estate agent out here called today to see what our plans are for renewing lease which I chatted through with her. Had warned kids that there would be an inspection due soon.....she was like nah! It's fine I know you look after the house.......I was like...right , kids inspection is 2 weeks time! Just a little lie.
So I think that was my day off.
Have a good Thursday0 -
What a difference a day makes.....we have a Monsoon outside , have had it since lunchtime too with heavy rain and such peculiar greeny coloured skies, so no Cookie walk this afternoon!
1) Finally got ourselves to I*ea and decided on and purchased new mattresses for the bed, we have a continental superking that takes 2 separate singles and we have different weight single quilts as I sleep much hotter than he does.
2) Lovely chat with DD1 as she walked home from the school she teaches at this afternoon, it had stopped raining where she is as she's considerably further west than we are.
3) Have just found we get a film channel on our sky package that I didn't realise we could get and they have a really good season of 'big' films coming up on Thursday nights at 9.
4) Have decided on a colour change through the house and will go 'Gustavian' Scandinavian which is cool, calm and pale coloured, soft greys and off whites will be very nice. We'll start with the bedroom and work our way round everywhere else in the fullness of time.
5) Wore my newly acquired winter boots for the first time today and they are warm, waterproof and very comfortable, lovely!0 -
Evening all - quiet round these parts innit?
Pleasures for yesterday
1. Worked from home, just what i needed.
2. DS did the first of his resit maths papers - said it went well. He has been a bit anxious of late and we think it is this even if he doesn't realise. he seems to agree
3. Avocado on homemade sourdough toast. Best food ever - eat your heart out, Nigella, I been cooking this for ages
4. Lovin my itunes while I worked. Don't really subscribe to the ibrand as such - but i do like itunes
5. Out for a mum's curry club night - first one for ages, good to catch up
and today
1. I have been accepted onto the PhD studentship programme.. All very :j and  Just need to make sure the sums are what i think they are and I will be good to go. Did a lap of the lounge in excitement :rotfl:
2. OH wanted "second hand slop" from the freezer for tea - turned out to be chicken, butter bean and chorizo stew. I made a loaf of bread to have with it - but my breadmaker has died in the process (it is probably getting on for 20 years old) - loaf was ok though
3. Had bits waxed, tweezed and tinted (sorry if TMI BoP)
4. Getting through some of the work backlog
5. Not sure there is a 5 today - i'll save it.
Have a good night allI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Quick pleasures for today (Thursday already!)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Could have been a gruesome day at work but good behaviour all round.
3) Managed to email a few people about stuff, phone silly mortgage solicitors and make eye tests for we three.
4) The fault with the new mortgage is a mess up by my first solicitor during the divorce (she was soon replaced with fierce lady!) Seems one clause on the Land Registry papers is absolute rubbish and the mortgage solicitors have never seen anything like it. Got to ask new solicitor to completely re-do it :-/ In my wrangling with the potential new mortgage company solicitors, did manage to get them agree to waive a £50 fee for one part!
5) Casserole for tea.
6) Smaller son made cornflake cakes.
7) Enjoyed watching First Dates.0 -
1.Tonight we did a date night, over the bridge to Costco for dinner.:rotfl:. call me cheap. Then to the cinema to watch Hotel Transalvania 2, a good giggle.
2.We took in our own food and drink shhhhh and then back home for the rest of the Costco pizza.:rotfl:
3.Not very MSE but we picked up some bits in Costco ohhh and much needed new pillows.:p
4.Kept the animals locked in the house while we were out just in case and glad we did.:)
5.Candles burning away and smelling lovely.:)
6. I've just used the Amazon offer to treat ourselves to a bottle of plonk we have been umming and ahhhing over since August.:T0 -
Wow VJsmum - that's fab news on the PhD - just a little jealous I'd love to do this! Maybe in 10 years time when I've paid the mortgage off and my kids have grown up!
Pleasures for me for the last few days:
1. November is a weird month - a bit like no mans land between Autumn and Christmas - but I kind of like the darkening nights and winter foods and not so much pre Christmas pressure yet
2. Work is emotional - sometimes it get to me and sometimes it reminds me of the good things I have! At the moment I can see that no matter how much my kids are challenging me - I am very very lucky!!!
3. Fab choir tonight - Christmas carols! Difficult harmonies but loved the challenge
4. My mum is fab - she has dropped her thing to help me with my kids next Monday evening for my work AGM - I am not very organised and forgot to ask her til today!
5. Friday tomorrow!0 -
vjsmum fabulous news about your PhD
Friday !!!!!!ay, first day back at work....just another 3 to go ! (.....and counting!)
Had a lovely(ish) morning baking. Made carrot cakes, yoyo's, brownies , sausage rolls. Main colleague has not been happy at work for a while ...infact was probably moaning a year ago...so today has moaned constantly , going through various scenarios of I quit! By the time we had finished our shift I was more than a bit over listening to her! I think she needs to stop talking and do something positive !
Been a day of so much rain and yet even more came down , however, I was lucky enough to get home dry. Everything looks so lush and green.
DD1 and Haggis came and met me at the train station , lovely boy! He got lots of attention ( which he loves) on the walk home.
Made macaroni cheese for tea.
Have a lovely Friday
Ooooh! I've got a badge from MSE!
That's Friday s c h m i d a y that's been blanked out! No idea why!0 -
Morning folks, must admit to feeling a tad blue this week, think the events of last few months have just sunk in but knowing me want last long, tend to be on the whole an optimistic little soul so will just ride it out and take pleasures where can find.
Big congrats to vjsmum, what a fantastic opportunity.
Reading about the adventures of Mole and his friends, so much in one book and all mixed up with childhood memories, not to mention Pagan influences.....
Knowing that my cupboards, freezer and importantly oil tank is full, ready to face whatever the winter throws at us. Real feeling of hunkering down now for the next few months.
My garden is all tidy and put to bed now, like the thoughts of all those little bulbs asleep in the cool dark earth, biding their time.
The complete carpet of orange leaves underneath the beech trees and far more to come yet.
Warning, soppy alert - my DOH, Captain Scarlet, his constant love and support, count my blessings everyday.
Happy Friday everyone x0
