5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

I got my first Christmas card today too, Sparrer! From one of my dad's cousins.
Pleasures for today:
1) A lie in!
2) Decided to have such a nice day that no one could complain about it :-/ Bigger son has been fine, smaller son just moaning about life in general in the run up to bedtime, so that was easy enough to ignore.
3) Nice day part one was driving to Ironbridge and it NOT RAINING (first time in a fortnight!) Smaller son was listening to Queen on his ipod. He doesn't sing along exactly but occasionally sings a word of phrase so you get "Queeeeen"........ "bites the dust"......."best friend" at intervals.
4) Went to Blists Hill (Victorian town). Annoyingly I left my annual pass at home but I did remember the Blue Peter badges so sons still got in free. It struck me walking round that I used to prepare much more thoroughly for days out. Can't believe I forgot the pass and a while back I would have thought about a packed lunch, a flask etc. I picked a weekend with no Christmas fairs/workshops and it was incredibly quiet. Which we like.
5) Had lunch in the caf! there.
6) Went to Enginuity after lunch - had never been there before. It was like ThinkTank but on a much smaller scale. Very well done and we spent a couple of hours turning handles/building arches/X raying stuff.
7) Went swimming with my brother.
8) Fish and chips from the van for tea.
9) Enjoyed Casualty.
10) Rob Brydon's live tour from a few years ago was on 5*, I noticed. Strangely, I've always remembered this as being the only thing on television that made me laugh in 6 months when I was severely depressed - quite a feat! So it was good to watch it again.0 -
Well vjsmum and anyone else who wants some....you are more than welcome to the heat, currently a very warm 34o, was up at 42o earlier....yuck!
My weekend pleasures:
Had a nice enough night on Friday, think it's such an effort for a couple of hours , I feel like an old fart even writing that down let alone thinking it!
We'd just missed a train so had to wait another 15 minutes, then 40 minutes on train into city, then about 15 minute walk to where the drunkards were hanging out, into a noisy bar where we had to shout to each other to be heard, then onto another bar, we were expecting to have dinner ( as usual) but drunkards had had a late lunch and a lot to drink , so weren't that hungry, we ended up having some bar snacks as we were both starving and OH needs to eat!( I just like to eat!), then for us it was a mad dash back to train station with about a minute to spare and then 40 minutes home on train and then I was out for work at 6.30am! Now that's not their fault as they are down/up from other states for the weekend and can stagger back to their hotel.....but for me ....too much effort! I should really say friends but they were all very drunk!
Anyway, work was fine and another week of work done and a few more dollars earned.
OH and I went out for some dinner to a nice Italian restaurant and spent the money we would have spent on food but didn't on Friday night....so that's a bit money saving I think!
I was up ridiculously early this morning (4am ish) as I'd fallen asleep very early last night. My dog vomited a blankie....yay! But on describing it to DD2 it was the second one he'd eaten , so the first is still in there.... He had a new lease of life and a spring in his step and then he was caught with a bloody sock in his mouth....he does not learn that clothing does not feel good in your tummy!
Had a good catch up with friend from home.
Went to puppy playgroup....my boy was promoted to the big boy class and was used as a demonstrator puppy and did everything right. Felt very proud!
We then went a road trip to Healsville , which is a lovely country town that we both like, Haggis was much admired and he loves the attention! Bought a few bits for Christmas stockings and a secret Santa gift.
Then over to Warrandyte , he had a wee paddle in the river and then we were told that a snake had been sighted nearby....see ya! Quickest I've moved in a while. They are a huge fear of mine.....panic attack inducing at the very thought!
Then home to a very hot house and watched Casualty.
Just in from a very busy supermarket for grocery shopping...how much? However, did get 3 big bags of dog food on special with 1/3 off price , so it kind of made it third one free on actual price. They will last a while! Got some chicken for dinner tonight rtc.
Handyman came yesterday so we now have a handle once more on the bathroom door....no more being locked in! He also did a couple of other jobs....paid for by landlord not us! Now, as a landlord it's very annoying when tenants want/ need jobs doing ( which we always do) but as a tenant it's nice to be able to just send an email and say such and such isn't right and it gets fixedwhich again, we are lucky and our landlords always do)
To be another hot one tomorrow , I have day off but OH has hospital for a procedure, so it's an early start to be there for 7am....just as well I'm an early riser!
sparrer I like the thought of you going to France on a fairyI miss France, we always holidayed there , usually twice a year and I just love everything about it!
I've received 2 Christmas cards already, I need to go and hang up Santa's slippers which are our advent calendar ....one felt slipper for every day of advent.
Have a lovely St Andrew's Day

Purplekitten pleased your Dad is found it must have been worrying,

Sparrer: Another night owl here, tend to similar time wise try to get to bed by about 12.30am but rarely sleep well at all. I love the sound of your Christmas lights. And the mentoring sounds interesting.
1. We popped out to Mr T last night as I like fresh bread on a Sunday and I’m naff at making it. We were lucky and happened to get the timing just right, we got to the isle just as they come out with boxes full of final meat reductions. :oIt was only us and 2 others, everything was at 60p we had 8 lots of chicken, 2 for us, 6 chopped into ferret portions and frozen. venison steaks, 2 x 20 sausages, beef mince, burgers x 3, lamb cutlets, 2 steaks. Then he came out with lettuce, tomatoes, cauliflower, fruit salad for 20p each, so animals and our freezers are heaving again, to top it off we also had vouchers.:o Chatted away to the checkout lady who wanted to guess what the total bill was going to be with all the reductions going through lol:money:
3. Dopey so n so gave us the wrong bedding set just noticed as I went to put it on very luckily we had the receipt, reserved the king size online and the exchange was so easy can’t fault dunelm, but it was next to home bargains, so ended up loading up with all sorts from there before we trundled back home to warmth and animals rather than to many people not considerate of others out there at the mo.
4. Just “product tested” profiteroles to see if they should be given freezer space…:rotfl:
5. Making a bowl/bucket:rotfl: of chilli from the rtcs above:)0 -
Good evening everyone :hello:
As ever, a busy weekend. When isn't it in the run up to Christmas?! Very jealous of Frith's trip to Blists Hill - I love all things Victorian, not least because I grew up thinking Queen Victoria was the best queen ever as we shared the same first name. :rotfl: Some habits die hard! In all seriousness, I was thinking today that I would need to visit Ironbridge one day soon.
My pleasures for this weekend:
1) Seeing friends today with their gorgeous girls.
2) FIL's birthday meal last night. A lovely meal at a local pub.
3) NPD yesterday and today for me!
4) More items for the charity shop. I'll donate them next weekend, but hopefully I'll be able to walk down there under the strain!
5) Arranged to go to my parents' house for Christmas. Looking forward to it!Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0 -
