    evening

Chicken - still not what you'd call skinny. Still a 7 - 10lb heavier than when i got married - although that was 23 years ago :p. Oh and don't we all love people who talk twaddle - i think i am loved in spite! :D

Vicky - I can lose hours on Pinterest.
welcome Bluebell and katkin - this thread is lovely

    Pleasures for today

    1. Watching IACGMOH - I shouldn't but i do.:o
    2. walked with wally the trolley into town. Made the put off appointment for an eye test - put off because I think i am going to need varifocals and i just don't want to have to wear glasses all the time. don't get me wrong - I've nothing against them, OH wears them and always has, DD wears them and ROCKS them. I just don't want to. They look stoopid on me :(
    3. Listened to ISIHAC for last week and this. Really looking forward to john Finnemore and Susan Calman in a few weeks :rotfl:
    4. Lovely cheese and onion sourdough toasty for lunch - lush
    5. Got through an amount of marking - tomorrow i need to be a marking machine. Wish me luck

    Sleep tight.
I wanna be in the room where it happens

A very brief one as I'm late - very late!

    Welcome newbies :hello:
Vjsmum I hope yours turn up in time, was so pleased this one did as it's for a present. Like you I'm not too worried about when mine arrives.

    1. Shopping with DD this morning, very little to buy today so only spend the bare minimum on the bare necessities
    2. The cafes were full so we ate hot pizza and sausage roll in the car, much more economical
    3. Took the pups for their first vac's, one of DD's friends who is having a white girl came with us, so afterwards we dropped her and the pup off at her house. She's got the biggest pile of toys you ever saw! She's going to be a very spoiled dog :D
    4. Very thankful for the heater in the car as it was freezing today. I remember as a child cars didn't have heaters, just a rug for our knees so it certainly counts as a pleasure today
    5. Finished everything on my list, which doesn't often happen, so now I can go to bed

    Sweet dreams :)

VJsmum - we *are* barking, but happy. Sinus grief worn off? Eep personal statements - my lad went through about 8 drafts & was *stunned* when I was able to read & slash & suggest & slash more. I've not forgotten the pain, so made sure his wasn't draft one dire. "new body new clothes new confidence" - well done! Seeing the poppy shipping production line on TV think your MiL's gift should arrive but on time is subjective!Varifocals are *learned* aids to vision, so start with a gruesome pair & develop confidence in eyeballs, then get the lenses put in nicer frames? Oooh -ISIHAC - iPlayer ho...
Chickenopolis - office relocations are a chore. Hoovering almost as bad but at home! Line dried bedding... Hens camo'd against maple leaves - lovely mental image! Have you seen/heard Ian Hislop on The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists? Filthy desk now rubbed back to something tolerable & hound cuddly with sis. Splendid! Joint ops? How do you switch off sis? (Fingers mallet...)
VickyA - mentoring is loads of fun! Aquatics - well done! To have access to the Fourth Estate is a potent bonus & hurrah Head appreciating you properly! Christmas with your parents? Glad you look forward to the idea!Poor little brainwashed children to think if its tomato soup it must be Heinz. Am trying to talk myself out of cards. Ah, maggots. Vital, educational, disconcerting.
BoP - sounds like you're having fun with the odds. Fingers duly crossed. <note to self> sneak invite for Saturday breakfast. How did you get that close to that bird?! Hope the Bear lives up to the billing! Unchained pizza conjuring mental images. Awww. Seals & second interview! Handsome seal!
Broomstick - bubblewrap curtains? Isn't that hideously tempting? Oooh,Paris, & for work! Customise the welding gloves by drawing on ring, Rolex etc with a marker pen?
sparrer - one ipod sorted & two sons now campaigning for their turn! Poor Mutt - hope the weather changes soon! Blimey, nectar points do add up - feeding near 40! Glad your Black Friday was calm, while cats less so. Looked up pastilla & now thinking Moroccan for tea! Well done mentorings peakers! Candlelight & hot chocolate - that I plan to try tonight! Cars without heaters? Eeep - took several minutes to clear the glass this morning & I did wonder about taking the kettle for a stroll.
Frith - hoping you & sons all feeling better? A second breakfast & pheasant sound utterly splendid. Bigger son will someday try this on a less loving woman & will get skelped. Awed at your calm. Blists Hill a wonderful place & hadn't occurred to me that Blue Peter badges would save fuss. Hmm. Hurrah missing link & extra 200 years. Strewth menfolk(collective) but such a delight chuckling together.
DundeeDoll - going for a drive to smell wet sand. Has your contact never been to Blackpool?! Glad you had a splendid time in Manchester & yet more that you had supplies to cope with delays.
mhagster - atta girl DD2 sitting exams anyway & both of you for psychology. She gets the ipad & DD1 gets the exam & ticket to sell booze? Hurrah blankie & oh grief, sock, yet Demonstrator Puppy! Are Advent felt slippers going to be safe? Sweetpeas already? Dead right exploit children while opportunities arise. So sorry teacher savaged DD2's paper - appalling behaviour, glad she's moving!
greywitch - chainsaw?! Love chicken fatball footie! Hoping the Christmas fair went well? Yes, but rot Argos stiffing you with a wrapped dud.
villagelife - back 'going' sounds gruesome. Love DS2's fundamental missed grip on shepherd's pie! Aww, that little lad's grip on Geography! Planting trees is a special pleasure, even carefully to avoid pain, as done right, year after year they smile back at you. Getting out of work just a little earlier than the rest of the traffic is a delight.
Skint yet Again - love how when machine works, you use it & when it doesn't you make the best of the time anyway. Christmas market & didn't spend anything?! Awe!
Purple kitten - oh drat the chest infection and oh thank heavens your dad back & registered. What a superb ys run! I foresee very happy ferrets! Office move as well?
mcculloch - just beaming at the idea of you racing young’uns on scooters. Curious as to green lentils & delighted at Christmas Sweater & proper blanket for Dr C! Have fun decking halls, & thank you for lentil & sweet potato link. (Veggies *baffle* me).
Tealady - phone mishap not rare alas (I now keep a bag of cheap rice as phone first aid) & ahem, very poor form to upbraid anyone advising inadvertent change of number as Fate is taking notes.
Bluebell - welcome & well done enjoying being wife, mother & gran. Baking slowly is letting experience guide you.
katkin - welcome! "nearly winning" with laundry - yes, I share that feeling!
ampersand - welcome back! Blimey, had not appreciated Salters - thank you. You are a revelation of grace for that poor PGCE Mathmo & Compline will be the brighter for it.

    OS Pleasures recently
Finally picked a 'free' magazine subscription - Good Housekeeping - which has the menfolk chortling. "Recipes, decoration advice, tips" I said vaguely. 'Tip!' came prompt agreement.

Running late after fruitless Black Friday searches but get to see trees reflecting in the river in daylight.

Two folk in canoes. Now there's a way to beat commuting madness!

Seen the Christmas stamps - charming & apparently there's a Madonna & Child if you *insist* at the post office. Seems a little improbable so I shall enjoy asking.

Given a lump of wood by a technical colleague. Not English so figuring a Proper Use will add to the fun. Seriously exotic handle for a blade I think. [Barking? Oh completely, but happy.]

Invited to enter negotiations on a wood turning lathe & sundry kit currently in a Tamworth garage. [Really, who else gets hopeful at the sound of a hobbyist's neglected garage?!]

Picked out Advent Calendars for teens based on a random survey of 3 other mothers. Would they get their teen a Peppa Pig calendar? One laugh for yes, bemused silence for no & howls of laughter for He!l Yes. The latter vote won easily...

Twiglets! Lad's gizmo requires Latest iTunes Update (just as I was enjoying the distinctly dated one.) Still, such a happy camper, it's worthwhile. He's being pleasantly sensible, so far!

I asked at the bakery but of the supermarket if they had any fresh yeast - they did & gave me a generous handful, wrapped. Now Himself is happier than a cat full of sixpences.

Saw apple trees for sale at the supermarket - £5 (while the cut Christmas trees are £25) & decided I knew which I preferred. It's longevity is in the hands of [insert name of Deity] but I'm delighted beyond reason pondering apple pie futures! And recalling a childhood of trees blossoming, climb-able, fruiting.

Simpsons - on screen there was a first aid kit trompe l'oeil (as well as the pretzels on the bar) and there are mutterings of 'We Could Do That...'

Two small Christmas trees up & decorated on my desk. (Colleagues helped me decorate them!) I helped fasten various decorations with paper clips.Definite feelings of cheer!

Big hugs to all who need them, reassurance in whatever form works for those with worrying family, and when you cannot fend off a lurgy, get in rest, fluids & painkillers?

    5 for today

    1. Well what do you know.... Team Manager asked me to step into her office to discuss something.. "is it 'orrible?" I said . "No" said my "great leader " . Due to lack of line management due to sickness , bereavement etc did I want to be "Acting Senior" for a bit ? (cos there is NO ONE else basically) Same hours and a bit more cash for a bit .. why not said I... "what about my caseload" ? "Delegate" was the response :rotfl:

2.Audit went well with colleague . The devil is in the detail . I love the detail ..

    3. Told my DMum about my No. 1 when visiting DSis was out as it would be lost on her really . She would turn it in to being all about "her" and I can't be faffed to put my "interested face" on.

    4. Hound asleep on my knee as I type - who needs heating eh? :)

5.OH schmoozing with Solicitors at some bash or another. Peaceful night then :rotfl:

Have a good evening all !

Sparrer: you sound really cosy over there in candlelight with a hot cuppa.
    1. Logged into a meeting while making a cuppa and toast was nicer than leaving the house.
    2. Leftovers for lunch
    3. Filled up the birdseed feeders after a dirty look from the woodpecker when he resorted to fat balls.:rotfl:
    4. Steroids and antibiotics as of today, it must be a vast improvement within 48 hours I’ve everything crossed as a cat in hells chance do I want to go back into hosp and I am sure I wouldn’t given a choice over a weekend.:o Feeling bad as my last task at work is supposed to helping with getting the office move ready for the weekend and there's no way I can crate things up at the moment.
    5. Ate for wanted health potatoes and vegetables.

    Evening all :)

I've kept meaning to post and then got distracted by life/a couple of other threads. :o

    :hello: Bluebell and katkin
mcculloch. thanks for the curry recipe. That will go on my list of ones to try.
greywitch, the welders gloves cost all of £3.30 inc postage on A****n. I think they are my bargain of the year.
sparrer, I drive with a rug on my knees and a hottie on my lap in the coldest of weather - lovely!
    Get well (((poorly people))).

    Five random pleasures:

    1. &, thanks for the inspirational stories of Ada and Alfred. I should have heard about them before because of other connections but hadn't so that was an unexpected pleasure.

    2. Chopping a basket full of kinding in the sunshine this afternoon.

    3. DS1 came home early because he'd powered through the work he'd been doing and then powered through cleaning the bathroom and doing the washing up. He hadn't done any housework in a while but, even so, he did his share of catch up without being asked. :)

    4. The Christmas lights were put up in the village square near our house. Looks very pretty and not garish.

    5. Phone call with a friend.

    Sweet dreams

Just lost a chatty post..so in brief :

    Very hot ( that's a moan not a pleasure!)

Busy day at work which was good.

DD2 has started at new school for a couple of days orientation....loads of work to be done over the summer holidays.

DD1 has sold more books and taken old uniform and other books to old school for their second hand shop, hopefully we sell some and make some money.

Received a $45 voucher from supermarket for spending a certain amount over 3 weeks. This will go with the $15 voucher they sent last week with loyalty points. Thank you very much :)

Looking forward to a whole day off tomorrow :)

    Have a good one :)
