Hello everyone, thank goodness its Friday! Hi Ollie - I'm not on a meter but am considering it, I have 2 water bills, and it seems as though one company has put the bill down (think it's drinking water) and the other company gives a £5 annual DD discount, so not sure whether it's gone up or not, as it's the first time I've seen the discount mentioned. I'm with the companies that are going to be introducing the different summer/winter rates, but I don't think they're rolling it out in my area yet - phew! I've got a water butt but will have every drainpipe covered as and when that comes into force....
Recent ones....
1. I've managed to get through the week without flipping out at people's constant stream of questions, I do occasionally have to concentrate in my role and am fed up with the interruptions....*and breathe*
2. YS eggs at the C00p yesterday that will go in to DD's party fairy cakes - managed to make 24 this morning and have another set to make tonight
3. Kind offer of help tonight from a lovely friend to make cakes/wrap pass the parcel present, get party bags ready. It's quite a lot to do a party for 20 odd kids on your own and I always get a bit maudlin around birthdays, mine and DDs....*sigh* People tell me that I try and over-compensate for the fact DD's dad is virtually non-existent, but I just want to make sure she has a lovely happy childhood with a mixture of reality and everything I can possibly provide.
4. Swapping a child's dinner for a few scrummy home made bread rolls last nightPopped in to see neighbour and she was a bit frazzled whilst making bread, tidying, thinking about dinner etc and her son was starving, so he came over to us for tea as I had loads on the go, and she made us some bread. A good swap!
5. Being able to help another friend out by taking her son to school yesterday, she helped me so much when it was snowy and I couldn't get out, so nice to be able to repay the favour. I live in such a lovely friendly terrace, am friendly with 4 out of my 5 neighbours0 -

I have very greasy skin, but I think you can do it for dry skin but don't use very much castor oil because it will dry your skin out too much. There's a thread about it on the moneysaving in marriages etc board in health and beauty xx0 -

Evening all. Hope you're all well.
Ollie - I hope you enjoyed your Christmas meal. Last year my pub quiz team had ours in early February, which I thought was pretty late, but you've got us beaten! :xmassmile
Tealady - hope you get the boiler sorted out soon. The leak could have caused far worse problems, I know, but being cold is no fun at all.
My five for today:
1) I'm still feeling horribly sinus-y so I phoned in sick this morning, and decided the best place for me to be was back in bed, so I got an extra two hours' sleep. I figure I don't need to feel guilty about the laziness as I'm ill. Well, maybe a bit guilty!
2) Watching the cat succumb to a bout of spring fever and chase a ball round the living the room for twenty minutes - and then spend the rest of the day asleep on the sofa - that's a lot of exercise for an elderly cat!
3) It was nice and sunny for most of the morning so I opened all the windows to air the flat. (A neighbour promptly lit a bonfire so my flat ended up smoked rather than aired, but the intention was good!)
4) Spent most of the afternoon doing online surveys, on the basis that, if I was going to spend the day stuck at home feeling lousy, I might as well at least get paid for it.
5) Had a nice chat with a man from the Open University who confirmed I can use my Tesco vouchers to pay for one of their short courses. It only works out as £20 off the price, but that's better than nothing. All I've got to do now is decide which course I want to do. (I've studied with the OU before but fancy a change of subject area - something science-y, I think.)
And one still to come:
6) I've decided that what I need to make myself feel better is something sweet, so I've defrosted a raspberry cheesecake that's been sitting in the freezer for several months. This is the fun side of storecupboard challenge!
Have a nice evening, everyone.Back after a very long break!0 -
Evening all
Ollie - I didnt finish the cat, too tired. not sure my mum ever expects anything from me on time, must have been a shock for dad to get his birthday present actually on his birthday! :rotfl:
Mine for today
1 Lots of cuddles of ds2 (we are both a bit ill so cuddled up on sofa!)
2 Having a little nap on sofa with dd this afternoon (dont think I have moved from sofa much today!:p)
3 Having the bolognaise for tea that was cooked yesterday so just having to heat it up and stick on some spagetti - quick and simple! :T
4 Ds1 and dd brought home the mothers day cards they made in school and hid them in the living room (under the sofa is the usual hiding place for them!!)
5 A night off - well, actually i have to finish my mums cat as i had an early night last night (11pm - earliest i have been to bed for weeks!!!) and didnt get it finished. only the legs to do!
Right, time to watch a film with the kiddies and finish the cats legs then i can sleep!!
Have a good evening all.0 -
Hi all
CCP - goodness, fresh mango on the porridge, I thought I was exotic for putting chopped dried figs on it! Gotta try this one!
Ollie, which beans? Your link took me to an Asda page but no beans there! I think you can use any beans as long as you make them into a savoury casserole, then cover them with mash. LEt me know how you get on!
Goodness, all those recipes, so many recipes so little time... Thank you all for posting them. Going to have to try savingforoz's pate soon, sounds lovely!
Here are my blessings for today:
1 - Breakfast of porridge with dried figs, chopped nuts and agave syrup, also DD and DS ate it and liked it.
2 - No work day! Treated myself to a day with not a stitch of paid work!
3 - Went to a local Women's Day celebration where I had my hair done in 40s style courtesy of the local beauty school trainees.
4 - At this event they served food and I had a lovely veg curry with rice, as well as a few cups of tea and some biscuits too!
5 - Morsbag afternoon with my friends.
6 - Submitted an article about morsbagging and our little "pod" to the local newspaper and it will be published in April, hopefully. We have started giving our Morsbags to local shops so they can lend them to customers who normally would have a fabric bag but who forgot them. We hope to catch two birds with a stone, promote recycling bags and also the use of our local shops.
7 - Very OS dinner, leftover beans from couple of days ago, together with leftover potato and peas from yesterday, bulked by a handful of soya chunks and a large onion, going to be served as casserole with side dish of jerusalem artichokes and some quinoa grains to bulk up the lot.
8 - DD's BF brought us yet another lovely bread loaf from the shop where he works.
9 - The Lakeland delivery has arrived, I almost feel excited about cleaning (almost, you understand!) with the idea of using all these nice implements!
Off to dinner now, baby still not born so I could get called any minute now (have you heard me say this before? LOL) Have a great evening all xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Today's pleasures:-
1. Baked 2 large loaves and a dozen rolls.
2. Made a coffee sponge to take to a communal buffet supper tomorrow.
3. Made raspberry and white chocolate chunk muffins.
4. A nice afternoon by the fire with my crochet, should have made cards but it was too cold to go upstairs to my craft corner.
5. DH doing all the baking washing up.
