    Evening all

Sorry I didn't pop in last night was busy pottering about the house.

Blimus - It's going to take a while to hear about the Shetlands job but I'll let you all know if I hear anything
D_O_S101 - Thanks for the recipe! I'll give it a go when I get a bit of time. Sorry to hear about your problems with the cinema tickets
jexygirl - I have levels of neatness. When friends are round I relax and think what the hell I'll deal with it once they've gone. It all looks neat and tidy on the surface but I'm storing everything under the beds and in cupboards :D
Ollie - Thanks. Like I said neat on the top....messy underneath :D

Right I have some catching up to do:

    Thursday:
    1) Another good day at work :D
    2) Very nice steak for dinner
    3) No spend day
    4) Bit of a double edged one - hearing my offshore maintenance supervisor is moving to another part of the business when a job comes up - I'll be very sad to see him go :o but I really want his job :) - don't worry he knows ;)
    5) Very chilled out evening

    Today:
    1) A very relaxed day at work....cleared up a few bits.
    2) Took some biscuits into work and the boys wolfed them down. I had a clear out of the cupboards as I'm back on the diet next week.
    3) Nice chilled glass of wine - taking advantage of this one as I'll be cutting it back soon
    4) House still clean and tidy - needs a mop but it can wait until the end of the weekend when I finished traipsing about
    5) Home made cottage pie which is going to last me for the rest of the weekend. Used up a slightly soft carrot and some sprouting potatoes.....and yes I did add lentils to my mince :rotfl:

Tomorrow I'm cleaning out the garage a bit....theres a rug in there that my dad made. I want to clean it up and use it. Luckily I'm also storing a carpet cleaner in there so it shouldn't take long.

Hope you all had a great day. Take care

    C x

    5 for today.

    1) Had a fair tidy up and change of beds.

    2) Helped at school this afternoon, worked in the library then heard some readers.

    3) Got to speak to the SENCo! She is a real person, not a rumour! Got an appointment with her in a week or so. She said she has no input now "little son is fine". I said that was interesting, considering he had progressed to CASBAT for his autistic traits...

    4) Bigger son helped me make tea - pasta, brocolli and cheese sauce.

    5) Quite lucky to be alive after bigger son set the living room on fire. He was making a model from a cardboard box and I went upstairs to play "tanks" on the laptop with little son. Bigger son thought he would add a "scorched" detail... The wood stove is on day and night and both sons bung a log on if it needs one and they also sometimes light it. Anyway, he was merrily "scorching" the model with matches (which he's not allowed to do, obviously!) and it set on fire. Bigger son threw it into the inglenook, onto some logs which were stacked right by the stove (stove is in the middle of the inglenook).

Presumably the bottom of the chimney has the best air flow in the house as the model then burned better than ever and set fire to the logs underneath! Cue much screaming from bigger son and we ran down. Both sons were propelled out into the garden and I threw water on the fire. The only thing I could find was my little measuring jug (still out after making cheese sauce) so I kept throwing water on the fire, up the wall (flames now a metre high) and on the logs, the stove... I knew if the plasterboard above the inglenook set on fire, that would be the end as there are beams above, a tinder dry lath and plaster ceiling, then floor boards. And the fire brigade are 10 miles away.

I was driven outside by the smoke at that point and stood in the garden, watching the flames through the window. It sort of burst into life again without my jugfuls of water. So I ran back inside and threw 5 or so more jugfuls on and it went out. The rug was looking decidedly hot (though very wet) so I threw that down the garden and a few smouldering logs.

Then I made the silly mistake of thinking I would go upstairs and stop the smoke alarm from beeping and open the windows. I didn't think upstairs would be FULL of smoke and by the time I got to the little bedroom window I was realising not being able to breathe at all wasn't a good idea! And when you open the window, fresh air doesn't get in, smoky air billows out past you! It was quite exciting standing out in the garden again, watching smoke pour out through all the windows, ages after the fire was out.

I'm not even going to mention the clean up operation or that I threw water into the Wii fit board...

We're fine! I did look to either side but the neighbours were out. Its only a small village so to get anyone else I'd have needed to walk quite a way - no one would have heard!

Its pretty much cleaned up now and drying out nicely.

Planned a bit of a day out tomorrow - to Ikea for some kitchen things then have to stop off on the way home to feed and water my sister's cat as she's away for the weekend. The boys love Ikea - the restaurant, testing out every bit of furniture, the weird escalator with no steps and the ice creams...

How awful for you ACEY , and the boys were no doubt shaken too. I know we do things in a panic but what happened to 999? The fire could have left hot spots that look as though they're out but can spring back to life at any time. ACEY, please please check, check and check again that it all really is out. Wii fits and rugs are nothing compared to you and the boys :A, thank God you're all okay. But as nuttybabe said I hope you got checked for smoke inhalation?

Phew! After that my five are very low key, can't stand the excitement!

    1. Postie brought me a tiny sample of moisturiser, I think they're all beginning to realise no amount is going to perform a miracle so they just send token samples now:rotfl:
    2. I can at last see a miniscule bit of yellow at the top of one of the daffodils - I was beginning to think it wouldn't happen as they were all out this time last year, but it has been a hard winter and according to the gardening programmes everything is at least 4 weeks late. However Spring could at last be on the way :T
    3. Tried everywhere hoping to buy some pop socks for DM but seems nowhere stocks them now except Boots, and they were £4 a pair . So I got her some hold ups which I hope will do
    4. A very successful trip to Asda with whoopsied sushi and yogurt so tea only cost 68p :D
    5. Found a lovely ceramic s&p set in the charity shop for £1, lemon with a blue rim which will be perfect if/when the new kitchen transpires. If not I like them anyway :)

    Night night (((everybody))) sleep well

  • Good heavens Acey, you've made my day feel positively good! (my laptops died & I've had to beg to use DH's pc) as Sparrer already said, why didn't you ring the brigade!?? Thankgodness your all safe & sound.

    1. Mum's birthday so went out for lunch :D
    2. Had plenty of left over chilli for DS's x 2 tea
    3. DS no two has been accepted at his chosen uni :j
    4. I don't have to go to work till Monday
    5. Company 'phoned to say I will get my lappy back so won't loose work etc on hard drive :)
Now thanks to Tommix & Queen Bear, now Lady Westy of Woodpecker :)

Acey, glad you're safe and OK.

    My 5 for yesterday:

    1. Really good phone call with a guy from the dating website. He sounds fun and we're meeting up today. Wish me luck...

    2. Short day at work - we finish at 4pm on a Friday, always good.

    3. Watching my favourite TV shows in the evening, with a warm, purring cat on my lap. Penny Puss is so gorgeous!

    4. Feeling really pleased with the work I got done on my short story.

    5. More delicious lentil pate for lunch and savoury rice for tea - yum.

For those of you intending to make the pate, don't worry if it seems a bit sloppy when first made - it firms up once in the fridge, as the whizzed oats absorb a lot of the moisture.

Have a good weekend, everyone. See you tomorrow for more pleasures.
Life is not a dress rehearsal.
